Yeahhhh I don’t blame you for feeling like this episode was rushed. It definitely needed a few more minutes (and definitely more time to cook animation-wise.) Frankly this spinoff needed at least 6 episodes.
@@JustEmeraldStar55 this episode alone likely either needed 2 longer episodes or even broken and fleshed out into at least 3. The first episode needed more than one episode as well.
Tbh Silly Billy I'm really glad Jake stood up for himself to his own father for the very first time in his life that they wouldn't accept him for who he is and I'm also both very impressed and proud of him for what he did not just for himself but for his lover as well and I'm happy for them!
this episode felt all over the place pacing wise. it tried to do too much with very little runtime. there wasn't much time to breathe, with each scene feeling like it was rushing to get to the next one with very little natural transitions
While the end of the end finally had a good transitioning and cliffhanger, transitioning has been a huge problem overall and with even with characters like Ellie go from one episode (and even season/spinoff) to another.
@@nick0911 I wish they did more like two week for consistency to start and when are as 100% on the season as they can be (that includes trailers and other elements that don’t have to be done in between weeks), then go to or and even 2 episodes per week (if they solid enough or near done into the next project/season). Personally a few more minutes would have flesh this story out better along with them revealing more info into Tom’s parents and certain dialogue moments be emphasized more including between Jake and Miriam.
The best out of the 3 episodes of TomJake imo. Showing more of backstory for Tom and showcasing growth for Jake. I think both of them were really good. Plus, Lucia is so fun and I love how she's written.
Yes this was a very heavy yet wholesome episode. This is 100% turning into a full fledged slice of life story and honestly I'm all here for it. This episode hit me hard and I feel for Tom especially. I relate to him a lot. Great reaction as always Billy! Can't wait for the next episode! ❤
this episode just got me wondering “who the hecks is officer johnson?” im theorizing that he might be a future side character or a bit part in the season 4 plot. i have no idea though, lol
This is where I wished the patrolling with Johnson and Tom was shown in either this or last episode. If they would have canonized Johnson as one the cops in the remake finale that failed in their pursuit of Jensen while animosity towards Tom because of it in some way, then Johnson could have used to serve as Jake’s mirror and warning of what will happen to him if if doesn’t resolve his issues.
@@marklisowski6549 I’m not too sure they want to show Police Brutality on record especially if they aren’t choosing to go political or create a bigger message. Lost opportunity, but it’s whatever.
@@justezek8596 they kinda did actually with Tom being brutalized and even mutilated to have more permanent facial scars. It was more indirect. That said, I do get the concern with political, but a bigger message could have been noted that, while you have a cop like Johnson, you do have cops like Tom and Lucia.
Billy, you need to make more Inanimate Insanity reactions. The show gets way better later on! Episode 15 will have better animation and will start to get real good, and boy you will wanna see season 2. When you have time please watch more Inanimate Insanity, it’s amazing!
So far, Tom having some dream or nightmare is a recurrence in this spinoff (as I think the snoring that Gabby and Ellie heard was to note Tom dreaming last episode). I wished this was showcased more in the episode, like to note whether Tom has some phobia with knives or, based on the first nightmare that started the spinoff (that had Jensen and Jake say similar lines regarding Tom’s eyes), that what caused Tom to be triggered was someone like or in particular Jake holding that knife (based on the nightmare this episode) to note that Jake unknowingly can trigger Tom in some way positive and negative.
has nobody noticed how in the one with miriam and jake at the beginning, jake’s eyes weren’t correctly colored? he looked possessed and i haven’t seen anyone talk about it
That is a lot of animation errors and questionable choice on this whole spinoff. Vanessa, Grett’s VA, noted how they are not handling Tom being cop not very well. While an officer can use their patrol car for off duty reasons, it has to be within authorization and parameters. The spinoff has not reflected that. Jake being in the patrol car is a bad example and inappropriate. Had Tom and his mom been in the patrol car while conversing to create a safe space for Tom, that could have an example of Lucia pulling some strings appropriately. Also, some of Tom’s clothing choices seem either confusing or an afterthought. With this episode, was the blue sweater supposed to noted Tom as a patient. If so, why didn’t they have him in a hospital gown?
Loved your reaction Billy! Agreed this episode did feel kinda rushed in some parts. 1-3 more minutes would have given it time to wrap up some more. However, the story is GOOD I must say, it covered certain topics better than DCAS in my opinion. Anyhow, let's see the season finale!
Good point. It is likely a bad oversight to not animate it. While that sounds stupid to point out, that is a small detail that is open to criticism whenever this appear in any media. The only times characters aren’t wearing seatbelt in vehicle is a an intentional choice (which this wasn’t) or some other relevant factor (which is also wasn’t)
For those that missed this, Alec and Shawn have the same VA. While doing that can be argued at as a bit of a retcon, doing that is likely going to be some underdeveloped context of how Alec is able get into Jake’s head notably.

I feel like they should have separated Tom's and Jake's past into two individual episodes. This episode felt super rushed and barely gave any breathing room for the two character developments to fully bloom.
While this is a nitpick, the show overall needs to think about framing, phrasing and wording better. With this episode, bravery and courage got blurred. While they sound interchangeable, there is a noted difference between them that wasn’t highlighted enough.
This entire spinoff is rushed while DCAS felt too slow. I’m not sure what happened between remake and DCAS, but pacing is becoming one the biggest issues with DC.
@@trustinsfavchild one thing that could have done later and made better was Jake telling off his dad to get get a better payoff that interactions with Jake, Lucia and even Miriam can have refocused to get to that payoff.

HIs abusive father honestly explains a lot and adds to his character actually. It especially explains on so much of his behavior, and why he sometimes doesn't understand social cues, why he often likes things that are considered "child-like", and he even said it to Gabby in ep 2, how it felt like being a kid again.
