Tom Hardy Explains Why He Doesn't Always Read the Script for his Movies | The Bikeriders Interview

- Tom Hardy is a versatile actor in Hollywood. He's worked on many a high-profile project at this point in his career - The Dark Knight Rises, Sony's Venom trilogy, and, of course, George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road - so, what's his process? How does Hardy, someone who seems to inhabit wildly different characters effortlessly, take on these different personas, like tough guy Johnny in Jeff Nichols' upcoming film, The Bikeriders?
In his latest, opposite Oscar-nominee Austin Butler (Elvis), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), and fellow real-life Harley enthusiast Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon), Hardy plays the perplexing Johnny. The character is a leather-sporting biker who establishes the Chicago Vandals, a bike club, to join the outcasts of 1960s America into a family. As the landscape of the US shifts throughout the Vietnam War, so, too, do the Vandals, evolving into something much more violent.
During this interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub, Hardy talks about filming scenes with vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the beautiful shots captured by Nichols and cinematographer Adam Stone (Take Shelter), and the attention it took to maintain control over "antiquarian" machines during a scene. The actor also opens up about his process with each new role over his 20-year-long career and why some people may assume Hardy simply "doesn't care."

Tom hardy is being very humble in this interview its very refreshing to see.
Gotta love Frankie Pulitzer "the Facepuller!"
Hardys accent in this interview is wild. Sounds American, British, and little Irish lol.
Tom will never give you the exact answer you want.
That’s good, I can’t stand scripted answers
True
🎉👍
For me, I always enjoy his answers. Not so much the questions a lotta times.
😂
I love atmospheric movies which let you immerse into them. This is gonna be great! I am very intrigued by The Bikeriders. Tom Hardy has so much charisma, talent and screen presence. Overall, the ensemble cast is great and it's Jeff Nichols' passion project. Can't wait to see it!
Saw it today and it is really good. The acting is great, across the board.
@@debrajames3869 Great to hear! The ensemble cast looks fantastic!
"I can get on one (a motorbike) and move it about" 😂 Brilliant! Love Tom X
Hardy on a Harley
I love you, Tom Hardy❤❤❤
tom, make taboo season 2 bloody already!
Yes, yes, yes👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
AGREEEEEEEEDD!!!! Hurry up pleeeease!!!!!
His answers are exhausting. I would hate to have to interrogate him for a serious crime.
If they ever make Biker Mice from Mars live action one day, they should cast
Austin Butler as Throttle
Norman Reedus as Vinnie
Tom Hardy as Modo
My Tom is my Adam
Loved this movie.
Tom please i wanna contact you i love youuuuuuuuuuui😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤
That’s my BOY❤ I ❤ you since Day One Tom! I was transformed to another dimension Lol ! When He played Robert Dudley 🎭Queen Elizabeth’s Lover! IN The Virgin Queen for PBS. ! Hail too Tom Hardy 🇬🇧My forever favorite Beautiful, Sexy m. Talented British Actor ❤
I agree…he was perfect. ❤
It feels like 90 again so I’m overheating
I truly believe the reason director George Miller hasn't done another Mad Max centric movie is probably because of Tom Hardy. According to that BTS book about the making of Fury Road, it sounds like Miller and Hardy also didnt get along at all, alongside Hardt and Therons on set fueds
Also let's not forget, Pitch Perfect 2 beat Mad Max Fury Road at the box office by opening at number 1, while the latter opened at number 2. Don't forget that!!
firstly, why do I need to remember so many years about box office receipts. secondly, Fury Road is number one in the list of the best films of the decade, but no one remembers about the voice at all, and thirdly, listen less to the gossip that is spread to promote the film and attract viewers. It is common knowledge and it is written in the book that Tom did not get along with Charlize. and then at the end of filming they made peace. Sorry.
@@SvetlanaMSK-n8t sorry bro it doesn't matter that movie made best of the years or decades lists. The movie was not the huge money making success that WB wanted it to be, especially when the Fast and Furious franchise was dominating the box office. The movie only made roughly $350 million dollars, and yes it was beaten at the box office by Pitch Perfect 2. Sorry can't change that. Also there was a major lawsuit between Miller and WB that haulted productions on future Mad Max movies. Also, from what I've seen thus far, it doesn't seem like Miller is all that keen on making another solo Mad Max movie with Hardy or kinda dances around the idea
@@Story2ScreenMovieReviewPodcastsorry bro. after Furiosa's failure. And this is really a complete failure at the box office (if that’s important to you). No one will give Miller any more money to continue filming, whether he dances around it or not.🤷♀️
@@SvetlanaMSK-n8t I'm not denying Furiosa is not a financial failure, it is.
Why is he sounding South African?
TABOO Please finish TABOO in my lifetime! Luv thats piece of work! So different!
Right? It’s so frustrating we didn’t get more. 😢
My favorite TH role!
Couldn’t agree more
💯 I've been waiting since 2017 for Taboo second in the series 😮
Tom Hardy's the least Hollywood Hollywood actor. Literally comes across as a regular bloke.
Tom doesn't need glamor. He is only interested in his work, family, jiu-jitsu, charity and dogs. This makes him happy. This is the main thing.❤❤❤
Anything Tom does is watchable, even Star Trek. His performances are all gems. And his descriptions of vintage Harley's is spot on. 🤣 Great bikes require maintenance. 😉
I've been a Tom fan for years too.
Ditto 🎩🐾
Tom Hardy is my favorite of all time
He's the best !!'
Agreed❤
I have been following him for at least 15 years or more . I would watch him sing the ABC's all day . He seems very funny, honest and also down to earth. 🎩🐾🎩
@@joneen4584👍👍👍♥and for me the madness called Tom Hardy lasts only two years.

One of the greatest actors of all time. British icon!
His american accent has stuck a little bit since filming it sounds like.
If you’ve never seen a Hardy film, watch Warrior.
Agreed 👍👍👍
One of his poorest. Great advice.
Great movie, but I don't like the ending/who won the fight.
@@ariescustom poorest?
@@renaissanceman5296 Poorest, shittest, worst. It's terrible.
If you want to know Tom Hardy as an actor watch: Bronson, Locke, The Revenant, Inception, Legend, Mad Max: Fury Road, Lawless, The Dark Knight Rises and that's just for starters
Don't forget the Drop
The Take 👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
Stewart, a life backwards. Love that movie,
Tom is just superb as Robert Dudley in 2005’s, ‘ The Virgin Queen’. It’s on UA-cam.
Brilliant actor I am watching Taboo now, brilliant in peaky blinders as well
I feel he didn't want to give a straight answer to the first question because he didn't want to point out a particular work he done with someone and hold it over work he's done with other people. He's too thoughtful for that. He's a good lad oul Tom ❤️
Starting off with a dumb question...even Hardy was confused with the question, the dudes made nothing but block busters, wtf?
Agreed❤
TOM HARDY IS AN AWESOME ACTOR !!! WHATEVER HE'S IN...I'M WATCHING ❤!! ESPECIALLY LOVE THE TOUGH GUY MOVIES !!! ❤❤❤
Love his work-all of it. In my (humble 😏) opinion, his role as Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders, was his best. A step further, casting him in that role was a stroke of genius-a choice I’d have never considered. He nailed it.
Tom Hardy along with Christian Bale are the modern day versions of Gary Oldman!
Because the media pushes them .
@@JERSEYBOYPLAY2HARDor because they’re great actors but ok
Nah I think he's better
Lawless my all time favourite that’s when I fell in love lol 😂proper man
Wtf worst interview ever .. Not your fault but Tom never answered the right shit haha anyways
I wonder if Tom has ever seen "The Wild One"?
Yep i think he talks about it in other interviews, it actually shows up in the film, i think his character is inspired to start the biker gang after seeing it
@@petarrakoc1416 What little I know of "Bikeriders," the main characters in both movies are named "Johnny"! I assume that's a nod...
Can't wait to see love tom hardy
"Like a commode in a trailer to get rid of a doogie." 😂 I love how he made that as an example of how it's like to work an older motorcycle.
Those bikes Tom is talking about, with different parts from different bikes? They're called Rat Bikes.
I've been a biker lady since I was 16 and I'm now 70. I'm worried to watch this film. Movies tend to get us wrong for the most part. We're not all violent people going around fighting and burning stuff. I plan to watch it,but,as i said,I'm a bit reluctant.
WE WANT SEASON 2 OF TABOO
Tom Hardy | Collider - What more could I have wanted ? Very insightful.
4:05 guys look at his face 😂❤
I wonder why he did that? lol 😂
Difficult question...
Edit :Sorry it was answer to his voice in the movie: " Since warrior he changed his acting process, aiming at building a character but not always accent accurate. It's hard to explain but he did it in different interviews the last one if i'm not mistaken where he speak of it is in Variety or Forbes + in promo juncket like this one"".
❤❤❤😅😅😅
He’s an extremely talented actor as well as being down to earth from what I’ve seen, you can tell that he hasn’t let the immense fame go to his head. I have a lot of respect for actors/famous people that don’t allow their ego to inflate and stay true to their roots. Big up Tom Hardy will always be rooting for you bud !
Looks good.
His accent is so muddled, almost like an amalgamation of all the different characters he’s played
Pumping and pumping the brakes to like, get rid of a dookie! Hilarious Tom. Love you man!
He'd kick a** as a Stark in House of The Dragon IMO
What a dumb question to stsrt with. Also he clearly didnt want to answer, why ask again....
If Tom wasn't in that movie I'd probably not have watched it. And now that I've watched it I wish I hadn't. Why even have that pretty boy elvis guy in a biker movie. Not buying it
Hes done so much cool shit, including this movie bikeriders...
But in my humble opinion, start with legends, its a brilliant movie and hes so good in it!
He has to play Harvey Weinstein when they get around to making the film.
Steve asking the same question to begin every interview…it’s getting tired
The energy is about to get very greedy he keeps calling my husbands greedy
His London accent is lost. That makes me sad. English accents make me weak in the knees.
He's stuck in Alfie Solomons mode
My favourite bad guy he keeps it real
Yeah,Tom ❤❤❤❤❤
Very honest. Hardy is a gem.
Tom''s performance in the Bike Rides is next level acting. Obviously a bit of Brandon DNA in the performance but Tom's charisma is his own. Probably in the top 10 male actors working today.
For some reason the title of this video reminded me of joey from friends, how he changes his lines and gets fired hahahahahh
His acting in this movie is just amazing❤ So good!!! I will go to see the movie again😊
This channel is still around?
Now these are the good movies with history add true stories are the best the ones they have now remade no good
thats why they suck
❤Tom.
Big Tom and Big Frosty
We can tell
He did a tv drama on Sky by Gangster author Martina Cole, this was my introduction to his work and was amazing. I think it was called The Know +Knock). He was unlikable and his psychopaths are chilling.
The Take
No it was the take and this TV show is my fav
Horrible interviewer. Very uncomfortable and awkward.
Movie ending was prob the worst ending I’ve ever seen in a movie. And I think he was over acting in this movie tbh. Nobody is gonna admit when actors aren’t right for a role but yea he was not the best in the movie
Have you seen it ?
He was great
@@iqonoi did you not just read my comment?
I just can’t take his voice and accent seriously in anything he does. I’ve literally no idea what accent he’s doing in this movie lmao. I first saw him in warrior and thought he was great but everything since then has made me cringe. I know I’m in the minority though
He's doing a Brando impression on purpose. That's the whole point. The character he's playing is putting on a persona. It actually makes sense.
Save your money, it’s a terrible movie👎🏻👎🏻
Best movie of 2024
Comparing a Harleys brakes to a toilet. Great
I know it going to be good when he is starring in it. I loved this movie. My favorite would have to be lawless.
Essentially what he is saying ‘if you don’t like it , don’t watch’
Common sense .
