  • On May 13, we went to the Sick New World Festival. The line up for this festival was crazy and created buzz around the event as soon as it was announced. Luckily, we were able to secure tickets. At the time the tickets went live, they sold out after only about an hour or so. Here is our experience at the festival on this insanely hot day in Las Vegas, Nevada.

    Have you decided if you’re gonna go again this year? Haha i’ve been watching as many videos about SNW to get an idea as to what to expect and as much as i’m looking forward to going, definitely nervous about the heat 😅

      Hi, thanks for watching! We decided not to go this year. The main reasons were because we have seen quite a few of the bands that are on the bill for this year. For instance, we bought tickets to see A Perfect Circle (hadn't performed in like 5 years or something) before it was announced that they were headlining lol. Last year, we hadn't seen a lot of the bands before. The other reason was we wanted to visit Vegas for my birthday this year (the day after SNW), so we decided to save money by not getting tickets and instead staying in the city a little longer this time. I'm sure you will have a great time. It's a fun atmosphere, and we remember being bummed out coming back home just because it was so cool being in that environment, enjoying the music, and not worrying about the everyday things people worry about at home. It should also be a tiny bit cooler this year, since it will be the end of April and not the middle of May. But, definitely bring a decent size water bottle, breathable clothing, a hat, and sunscreen.

    That price wasn't so bad. I'm glad yall were able to drive and cut down the cost. I opted for VIP for 2024 to try and cut down on some of the walking/standing. Good luck if yall are going back!

    I walked 4 miles a day for 2 weeks leading up to it. I took obe of those small clear backpacks so my buddy and i could take a travel sunscreen each, a cooling towel rach, and 2 liter bittle each. We alsi took several packets of liquid IV. Had a very large brunch to avoid eating nuch at the show. We had a fantastic time. How you prepare definitely makes a difference.

      That's some good planning. We took some sunscreen too. Worst parts for us were the lack of sleep and walking over 6 miles on the strip the night before paired with the heat the day of the festival.

      @@joeyandlauren I'm genuinely shocked we weren't tired. Our flight the night before was delayed from 820 to 1120 and we landed in vegas. Between getting out of the airport and getting checked in, it was pretty late before we even walked the strip. I think we slept like 4 and a half hours. I guess we were just excited. We also managed to get a free energy drink from that big Monster tent halway into the day. My legs were definitely dead by the end of that night.

    April would've been fantastic.
    Was a slightly chilly ~74* then, plus the body heat it would've been comfortable.

    I will say, music festivals are NO JOKE lol, especially during hot weather. Went to Download festival last year and it was HOT, but im from Texas so I wasnt suffering as much as those poor Europeans who were sweating haha, but definitely still took a toll on me. Can only imagine how the vegas heat was with a venue that packed.
    Glad you guys enjoyed it despite some of the cons! I do think the pros outweigh the cons, like a lot of these bands rarely tour (system of a down especially) and just seeing all these LEGENDARY bands all in one day really is something special.
    Im going this year! Didnt go last year, but this years line up with Bring Me The Horizon and Slipknot really sold it to me. Its in April too, so it wont be as hot hopefully. Great vlog! Now i know to eat more beforehand lol.

    We drove from Texas to Las Vegas. Stayed in Vegas for about 3 days. We all had ga passes people are abusable water bottles and the hotel we were staying at had a fridge and microwave. For my own experience I would say wiegh out option and cost. It was $200 for gas there and back and that's with three people total in a car. Invested in reusable water bottles that was like $20 each on Amazon. Arrived to sick new world at one due to a horrible morning. Do feel they need it more signage to the location. Food was also overpriced so we just went to circus circus circus, unfortunately we did an hour but $15 for a whole pie was worth it. The tram was very crowded. Going to sick new world. I will say the bands were definitely worth it. It was amazing to see that it was real and not some type of scam. They definitely should have had more merch areas. Decide that people had to literally for go seeing bands just to get merch.. no I enjoyed it. It kind of suck camping out hours just to see the banjo like without being in the far back. By the way, being short but not be a good thing at these festivals. Clothing was black but more casual, I wore sneakers instead of boots. From the moment sick new world was announced, I started saving money. To me that he was not too bad but then again I'm used to it. The timeline of the bands was cutting a little too close. Literally had to race from lacuna coil to kittie and miss a couple of kittie songs. Honestly, the price versus how many bands is a steal. Depending when a lineup I do plan on going to sick new world again, they did have a survey asking which bands people wanted, There has not been updates since then.

I would just suggest closer to System, you want to make sure you're at their stage at least 3 headlining bands prior. I used to go to Coachella and we had to deal with crazy heat. But at least Coachella actively tried to encourage people to cool down. I remember there being a mini Oasis place where people can get drenched in water to stay cool. Also, lots of shaded stages and areas. It being on a grassy polo field helps too. Sick New World just reminds me of a Warped Tour set up in a random black top parking lot. Blacktop venues are the fucking worse! That heat on your feet just feels 20x worse than on grass. Not to mention more wear and tear on your body from the hard blacktop. I dont see them doing a venue or city change, so its probably something I will not check out. Bummed I missed SOAD, but I gotta believe there will be a better opportunity to see them. Outdoor venues in Vegas shouldn't be a thing. Love Vegas, but the only shows Im going to will be in an air conditioned arena.

    You gotta take vitamins and minerals prior to a big day like that. A huge must. Hats and those wet rag things people wear around your neck helps. People from Vegas don't go out until the sun starts to go down. If you drink alcohol before just don't go hard. Dry fit clothing instead of cotton. Sunscreen. I work for a dayclub in Vegas and get tourists constantly not even making it inside the venue from heat exhaustion and dehydration because they drink without hydrating or eating.

      @joeyandlauren  7 місяців тому

      Probably not tbh. We didn’t buy one and we had some friends that did buy one. The only things it seemed to have that we didn’t were a little rest area with bathrooms and water that GA couldn’t access and a separate area on both sides of the stage that only VIP people could go in (which meant you could get a little closer to the stage but it was from a weird angle). Other than that, it didn’t do much else. Everybody still had to deal with the same heat and crowds, so it wasn’t worth paying hundreds extra for us.

    • @gilla87
      @gilla87 7 місяців тому

      Definitely, you get much more elbow room for at least the first half of the day, if not most of day and you don't have to STAY PUT at one stage all day if you want to be close up. Sure, you could be at barricade with GA, but you would have to line up well before doors open and go to headlining stages and camp in the middle all day. If you happen to stay at a hotel next door you have the luxury of leaving for a nap, cheaper food possibly, maybe shower and head back to festival knowing you can get a good view at any of the 3 or 4 stages still

    • @gilla87
      @gilla87 7 місяців тому +1

      The only things I would say are probably not worth it, are GA+ because why? It's just an extra lounge area. Also cabana is just too expensive just to be so far from stage and higher up. Main benefit for VIP is you can be close enough to watch the band and not watch the jumbo monitors of the bands. Nothing wrong with that, cause most seated concerts I go to I'm nowhere near floor seats cause the price. Being that close, like my wife and I made it to barricade for System and it felt like a once in a lifetime opportunity.. although my wife wants to go again for system, we're not super heavy into the heavy metal scene or subgenres as we listen to a little bit of everything so that's why we will have gone to 3 different festivals there this year. So looking at this year's lineup there's not a whole lot of groups we feel the need to pay that much again for, but like I said, my wife would do it again just for System. If you have to put it on credit or whatever u need to do VIP it'll be worth it. You're going to have a good time for the most part for sure.. I say for most part because you'll still have to put up with the heat.

    This festival has already earned a reputation as one of the worst in the last couple decades. Hate that it was your first festival experience. As a guy that's been doig the festival thing since '98, I'd recommend going to some smaller ones like Slipknot's Knotfest Roadshow or travel to one of the big established ones like Bonnaroo, Blue Ridge Music Fest in Virginia (an insane value that would make up for the cost of a flight) , Epicenter, Welcome to Rockville, or Aftershock. All of these are well established and run very smoothly - no bad sound or bands getting cut short like at Sick New World. The food is going to be expensive at all of them but the others have way more comfortable areas to get away from the heat and just a more pleasant overall experience.

    I dont know how I feel about the whole thing. I mean honestly it's like amazing they got all those bands in one day so I guess for that it's worth it. But of all the bands I really like ive seen most of them already. The ones I've never seen I didn't see or see much of like incubus(completely missed the whole set) and soad( kept leaving to go back to vv because the crowd was so big). I went with a group of people which was confusing and at times dramatic but we still had a good time. I dont think ill ever do it again though. It was disappointing how long the water refill station lines were and the people that "lived" under the misting stations were so annoying, like other people just wanted to at least pass through and couldnt. The drive home was probably the best part.

    • @joeyandlauren
      @joeyandlauren  Рік тому

      You summed it up pretty well. The mist station camping and laying down in the shaded area was very annoying. The drive home was pretty relaxing, knowing we got everything done and could go home and relax lol. I think we would go again, but we would definitely use some of the things we learned from our experience to have a better time at the next one.

    I’d have to like a decent amount of the bands at a festival for me to pay $350 to go. But even then, I’m not really into festivals. I prefer more intimate venues. It’s not as enjoyable for me if I’m so far away from the stage that the band looks like ants to me. I did see Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie in Vegas in 2012, but that was at the Mandalay Bay Event Center, which is an arena. It was in September and not hot, which was a plus.

    • @joeyandlauren
      @joeyandlauren  Рік тому +1

      We for sure prefer the more intimate concerts as well because you can see them way better and the crowds are usually more hyped since they are there for that specific band. We, honestly, thought that the ticket price wasn't too bad, especially since concert ticket prices are starting to increase more and more. I'm pretty sure we checked not too long ago and one System of a Down ticket was atleast half the cost of this festival's ticket price, if not more lol!

    The people laying down underneath the shaded areas were pretty inconsiderate. They took up so much square footage underneath the shade leaving a lot of ppl standing in the sun.

    • @joeyandlauren
      @joeyandlauren  Рік тому

      Yeah, it was a bummer trying to get some shade after certain sets and then seeing a bunch of people laying down everywhere. There were also tons of the same people that we saw just camping the shade as well, which I understand why. But, it sucks to want to rest and the same people are taking up spots and not even watching bands play.

    Their will be a SNW 2 i bet.. This show was like an Ozzfest only way more chaos 1 day festival. I def wouldn't recommend a true 3 day fest unless your under 30 lol my 40 year old ass needs a day plus to recover from 1 day of music. Sucks about the tacos from what i heard from another video was the food was good esp compared to other fests ...

      It seems like there will be. We filled out a survey that the event sent out and it asked, "What bands would you like to see next year." Maybe we will try a 3 day festival at some point lol. And yeah, I guess we just got a bad vendor.

  • @Glenacus
    @Glenacus 11 місяців тому +1

    i will never go back to that venue. loved the bands, but standing on asphalt in Vegas heat all day, with little to shade, was miserable. The stages were too close and there was a lot of bleed over, if there wasnt actual sound problems. wasnt a fan of the 1/2 hour sets for a lot of bands, you got like 5 or 6 songs at most. Beer prices were very high, like 18 bucks for a 16 oz beer. The coconut vendor was really good but they sold out very quickly.
