Luke I’m sure you saw but Pandasaurus is launching a 2player version called Duelsaur Island and they hinted at maybe making the Deluxe Version available again for Dino Island....
It was Waddingtons. First board game I ever bought. The original escape from Atlantis with the spinner was in the same range. Really cool games. Remember them well.🙂
Hey Luke 🙂 Was looking into picking this up second hand. Saw the extreme edition with the expansion so was gonna grab that. I see on your BGG page you no longer own it, so Interested to know why you got rid of it & if you still rate it as highly?
Over time, I opted to play other heavier Euro's - it also was a bit of a storage/setup chore once you add the expansion all together. I'm also a bit less tolerant of the random hooligan bag mechanic. Nowadays I'd still happily play it, but as time as passed, probably closer to an 8.
@@TheBrokenMeeple Cheers for the reply and your update Luke. You going to be doing teaching at the GTG stall at Essen this year? I'm hoping they will have the new expansion for SOTM. You got us hooked on that after our teaching game with you a couple years ago there. Now one of our favourite games.
:) Like your new victory points meme "Of course!". Great and informative review but will not get this one as the theme does not work well with me. Although as "Trading in the Mediterranean" is one of my favounite themes, I consider myself a kind of dinosaur too :D
Ha ha, yes that's a good one, dinosaurs play Trading in the Med games! :P Games with that theme are dug up as fossils in the board game industry! :P Yeah the theme is "borrowed" I'll admit, but from one of my most respected film critics on the block that I watch regularly. But he made it an iconic meme and it just fits so well with the whole "yes we know it's about victory points already!". I want to try to generate more memes for the videos as time goes on - I already like using the "Get On With It!" part from Monty Python when I know something is dragging on too long!
Glad I came across your channel! I've really disliked this game (find it a bit of a dull mechanical trudge with basic puzzling out), but love the colour palate and theme. After watching your review though, I see it could be because I've only played the short version because of teaching it to people, so maybe it's more fun when you can go further with your park.
Thanks for the complement! And yes definitely NEVER play the short game. At bare minimum you should play the medium game but most of the time we play the long one. Once you're familiar and can move at a swift pace, long game is always best. Medium works fine though for teaching. You'll notice just how much more you can do with your park in that time - short is just way too short.
Interesting, I've played it a few times but not a 'long' game yet. The game seems to stop before anything really gets going. Great colours and dripping with theme, but...strangely not that exciting for me. For some reason I find a game like Suburbia, despite its outwardly bland theme, a lot more engaging, funny and more interactive with the other players. Do you find there is really any interaction with other players?

LedBretter Yeah I heard, I'm all up for that. This game works with two but I'd like a simpler version for people I know.

Not a ton, but everyone is bantering about their parks and dinosaurs in general. Definitely play the Medium/Long games only, Short is too short.
