      @@TaylorfromPapaLouie Since gases and liquids are both fluids (in terms of physics, see fluid dynamics), it's pretty much the same. Water has just higher density, resulting in lower speeds. Also, water is less willing to move out of its way to go around you. So it pushes slower, but with more power behind it.
      We do have different names for flow of air and flow of water, but there's not much difference beyond the name ;)

    I think what’s happening with the shard mod for the Tesla is that it is creating shards, but those shards are inheriting the property of the Tesla gun. This means, I believe, that the weapons is hitting and being perfectly accurate, “shards” of lightning are being created, and instead of penetrating, they are arcing back into the same enemy, since the weapons appears to arc to the nearest target, as well as arcing to other enemies.

      yeah. i think the reason it arcs visibly in battle but doesnt in testing is that if the initial target dies, then any remaining shards have to find new targets, but the testing ground targets don't have hp

      Having tested the weapon myself in my own playthroughs, I can both confirm this behavior and expand on its description.
      If a weapon with Shard doesn't hit anything, it will fragment as normal. If it bounces, when the projectile goes away, it will fragment in its direction of travel. You can see this with Shard ballistics like the 20mm and the Cannon.
      In the case of the Tesla, Shard will make it arc out from its point of impact if there are no enemies in range, while Shard behavior allows the Tesla to be the next best armor shredder to the Rocket Pod. Unfortunately, when there is no more armor to shred, the Tesla will not Shard. This weapon is therefore best paired with a Fire High Power Laser for swarm clearing.

      @@Virsteinn ^ this. Tesla shards "bounce" to other targets based on armor value existing on the primary, as soon as the armor is gone it does "real damage" but no longer shards to additional targets. Functionally speaking, this makes it a chaining armor-shredder which then becomes a single target zapper.

    A friendly hint regarding engineers: once you have enough pilots and mechs, like 2-3 lances, consider setting up lances for specific environments and keep them that way. Reason is that at some point it will cost you alot of engineers to constantly switch 4-5 parts of equipment per mech, for 4-8 mechs (8 engineers per piece of equipment). It's like a hefty engineer maintenance cost, which can be saved by creating a separate lance for the biome. That way you pay the engineer cost for environment adaptation only once, instead of every time you switch biomes.
    With Sector 56 repaired, building a mech takes only 2 days! And the fully repaired mech hangar doesn't only allow you to do two missions, it also reduces the required production space of the base mech down to a single bay! So really low cost for grabbing 3 base mechs + the prototype of the underwater specialist mech for the commander, and making an underwater / cold climate lance. AUXs are free, motors are almost free, and you already have many weapons. I kept my water/cold lance in a blue paint theme, so I easily recognized them.

    16:12 Nikola? It is your first mech with a Tesla weapon after all. Scratch that, I’ve just come up with an infinitely better name: Mjolnir. Alternatively if you’re a fan of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series: The Master Bolt. But at that point you might as well just name it Zeus.

      I think Mjolnir is the best one, but another idea might be Gauss!
      Or, if you mount both missiles and a tesla coil onto a single mech, you could name it Edison - tangentially connected to electricity, but mostly a source of surprise backstabbing. 😂😂

    Im not a nest finder as the other commenters, but one thing I think you may consider is that it seems reasonable to assume the pings are not nests, because you cant win a nest tile without going into the nest itself, which would conflict with the ping specific goal like the bunker convoy.

    While its clearly not the intended end game, I do kind of want to see someone do a run thats like 'we aint leaving' that clears all Earth of nests, biomass, and titans or whatever metric they pick as 'we retook Earth'.
    Like, once you are in end game mechs and weapons, you start launching say 4 missions per day bulk cleaning the planet. :P

      Wouldn't even be that hard. You can start running 4 missions a day by day 2. A guy has already posted himself soloing all bosses with a single plate (though to be clear, for one of the underground bosses he used an absolutely ridiculous amount of artillery). It would get extremely grindy by the end though, as you would end up rushing the titans, and then you would have to methodically plod across the entire map, doing water mission after water mission. The limiting factor would definitely end up being the move speed of your city and the range it can attack from.

      ​@@PerfectDeath4Double Accel Railgun specced into RoF, Single Rocket 20mm specced into accuracy (for some reason), all oversized. Since there's no build he can run there that doesn't overheat, he went with the Kinetic RoF program to turn heat into fire rate acceleration.
      That said, a Castle that runs 8x Shard Rocket Pods would wreck face in record time. Just have the other four be Fire energy weapons, prolly High Powers, and he's set.

    42:09 "I've had alot of people saying that water is death, but I mean at the very least it's not gonna have wind."
    It'd be hilarious if there are underwater currents instead that yeet your mechs around worse than the wind.
    Also now we're cloning humans to pilot mechs? This is just like Battletech's Clan Trueborn breeding program but with identical copies instead of mixing gene parents to create unique babies.

      there are underwater currents that move your mechs, but they are not as bad as the wind. the issue is that you have extreme slowdown underwater, and your weapons will have way lower AP than you might assume even if you go in with needle modes, but mostly, if you take even minor damage, your cockpit will fill with water and your pilot will drown, and the game doesn't really warn you this is happening, AT ALL, in fullscreen mode.

      ​@@Aavak repair drone can fix the leak, but amount of oxygen is finite. Hint: oxygen decrease only when leak is active. That is why you really want underwater module (additional oxygen is almost mandatory).

    Thanks for covering this game. I actually found your channel through the first video you made on it and you inspired me to buy it. I'm a couple of in game weeks ahead of where you are so I woul like to offer a recon report from the near future:
    1. Railguns are amazing. They are, as you suspect, a kinetic weapon that scales with power draw. Try the projectile acceleration mod on them, but make sure you have soft carpet because your jaw will hit the floor.
    2. When you start facing anything which shoots bullets make sure you have upgraded the district that makes repairs cheaper. You will be taking enormous amounts of armour damage. This can become unsustainably expensive without the reductions that district makes possible.
    3. When you start getting enemies added to ever mission you will be facing 3 of those enemies at ALL TIMES. Only three will spawn but as soon as soon as you kill one another will replace it. This will continue as long as one ovum is spawning. This is true for the large enemies in the first few days. I haven't got far enough to see what happens when flagella or aeries get added yet.
    4. The new technologies district,when fully repaired, lets you research any technologies you like without needing the tdch before them in the tech tree. There are, obviously, some end game techs that will REALLY help. So maybe consider that.

      @@Aavak I just had an unpleasant surprise. When the face laser enemies (flos? i think) get added to every mission they come in 4's.
      On the plus side if you are wiling to risk a mission on biomass the number of brucus on the map is WAY higher than what is shown on the intel screen. I've got a mission now that said 5 brucus and I'm counting 12

    Hello fellow Citizens of The Great City. As some of you have noticed, todays overview of our Entertainment feeds has been delayed. The delay has been caused due to my notes being corrupted by unknown reasons. The Engineer that i called over to find a fix the issue, did not find anything wrong with my Enumerators and Digital Storage Block. Instead, He found that my DSB was covered with Radiation. He explained that at rougly all of the same time, a spike of Radiation caused multiple problems throughout The Great City.
    These issues were quickly fixed by our Innovative Engineers. But i am curious as to what caused this Rad spike because it seems to have originated from the Research District.

    Spending all pips on the lighting gun for a whopping 2 damage increase without even looking, there's no engineer in you, Aavak. The efficiency freaks are disappointed in you.

      Flip side, I knew that increasing RoF would make thermal output impossible to balance in any meaningful way while still having another energy weapon on board; What you're describing isn't efficiency it's brute force, checking every possible path/answer blindly. That WILL give you an optimal solution, but in o(n). You seem to have mistaken the 'lazy' for 'efficiency' :P
      Learning from previous experience, using that to guide your future experiments down paths that you expect to yield good results, will give you a better result sooner, as the depth of your experience grows. Then, if you have spare time double back to check expected dead-ends for the occasional eureka moment.
      THAT, is efficiency ;)

    Figure I will mention this in case someone happens to read it. I can't imagine it won't have come up in this series, but I don't think it has yet. This is just something I've noticed based on looking at the interface in battle, so no guarantee on how accurate it is. The hive has a rhythm in battle, and there is a bar to display it. It is the red bar directly above the yellow one that shows how long until you can give an order. This red bar starts full and slowly drains to zero, at which point it jumps up to full again. For the first half of the bar the hive is in "hot mode", and enemies spawn at a higher rate. For the second half the rate of enemy spawns slows down. It looks like special enemies such as Ares spawn at roughly the 3/4 full mark. Every time the bar reaches empty and resets that is the que for another round of bug artillery.
    Armed with this information it would probably be possible to fight more effectively since you would always know when it is more safe to push and be more aggressive, and when it is time to fort up and brace for a heftier swarm.

I finally figured it out because I noticed that Aries always seemed to come in a wave, then you didn't see any for a while.

    X15, Y10 is a nest. X16, Y9 can see two nests, and only has one viable position that isn't confirmed clear. Edit: it was already marked at the start of the video, but got unmarked to reveal the number and not covered again.

    Man you really got lucky on the Giants. By day 23 the biomass was pretty much all Russia and like 3 giants roaming, coming straight for me. Also the way you built Mr. Green is so different than how I did that mech platform wkth the first one.
    Put two acceleration modded gattlings and a cannon, and two PDS for missile defense, and that's how I'd probably build it in an actual mech game (if it wasn't a missile boat), it rips through everything at distance and never changed it. It's always cool to see how different people's thought processes are.

    With regards to your Reactors, having three of the internal/external and three of the multipliers gives you the most resistance you can get, by 3ish points

      But lower cooling power on the whole, though on the extreme ends of energy that makes sense; volcanic or pure energy builds may work better from extra resist versus higher cooling.

    I think a good name for the new plate would be Mr. Nikola.
    I also think there isn't too much of a reason to be afraid of the mech eating bugs. They are bad news certainly but you can bring 2 lances on a mission and if you go to low nest areas you should be safe as long as you have enough mechs focusing on them. You might also re-think of a slow down weapon because a mech eating bug that can't move is a mech eating bug that can eat mechs, plus there is always knockback from physical weapons helping.
    Lastly, You don't need the armor sub-system. You had removed it on the other plate cause it was already pretty resistent to being pushed by the wind so if the other doesn't needs, neither does this.

    given the electrical weapon and the general focus on attack and corresponding lack of survivability, perhaps the new plate should be named blitz

      also, relevant to the new plate but also more generally, its worth noting that - according to the manual - type resistance means the enemy takes 1/4 damage. this means that any energy weapon that does >=52 damage after 3 armor can kill operarius in a single hit anyway. i didn't expect that to apply to any energy weapons fast enough to deal with swarms, but it explains why the shard tesla manages so well

      Yeah, we just needed enough power to really push the weapons up past the threshold, still, under a storm, or biomass, Oppies will have more health and armour so still not perfect to be fighting them with a weapon they're resistant to.

    On the whole water topic: just like desert, water is only an issue if you are not equipped for it. And the mech test lab has a button to switch water on, so you can prepare.
    @Aavak I think you already have the water AUXs for kinetic and missile weapons, iirc. And there is one for movement+oxygen as well. The weapon ones make you survive down there, the movement one makes it alot more comfortable.

      Also, I LOVE this series, and I literally look forward to it every day, and will watch it as long as you post it. I literally bought Mech Engineer after watching this series, and have been somewhat playing along with you, although with differences due to opinion/playstyle and the procedural map, etc.

    With shard mod the tesla actually has a larger range than you'd think, roughly double since when it "misses" it spawns the shards which becomes new tesla arcs.

    Been thinking this for a while, perhaps you should consider letting other pilots other than the commander, pilot the plate mechs. Consider that those commanders lack the accuracy bonuses that other pilots have from their perks. Since the plates have the most weapons, they have the most bang for buck value of the accuracy bonuses of these other pilots.
    Tho it’ll be hard to argue against phoenix not piloting his firestorm, minimurgle should at least keep her Shepard.
    On other news, love this content and particularly this game! The way you go through all you do is something I enjoy listening to - whether in a longer video or not. For the algorithm!

      I've considered giving my bigger dps mechs to others, but the plates largely use accurate energy weapons (especially the new one) so I'm not as concerned with the lack of accuracy honestly.

    The top of Mr. Green looks to be more or less circular, I think you should call it "Coil." Works both in terms of shape and as a call out to Tesla Coils.

    Hey Aavak, I am not sure if you have noticed. Ablative armour only helps against missile defence, think of it like ERA (explosive reactive armour) its not useful against bug bites gunfire or any other sort of energy attack but purely used as a missile defence :)

    For the cleared nest maps. The enemy signatures give you the outcome of the spawning algorithm. But there are no more Ovums, so it doesn't matter. It really will only ever be that one Brucus on the surface map every day.
    Edit: It does matter if you plan to enter the underground labyrinth, as there will be spawners on the inside.

      @@Aavak From what I've seen it looks like that anyways. The enemy clusters will also always spawn a few of the bullet shooting worms as a defence mechanism and the opperarius are a lot tougher.
      And, just stay away from the red circles if possible. The manual will tell you why.

    X18,Y12 has to be clear, along with X18-20, Y12. The spot you just cleared at X19,Y12 can see both X19,Y12 and X20,Y12- one of which must be a nest. As such, it's vision is filled by that one, meaning that anything outside of those two possible locations that it can see must be clear. This is good, since it means that the was ahead for your movement should be relatively clear of nests for the next few spaces.
    59:55 Oh. That's a _nice_ detail there. When the reactor overheats, your vision has a bunch of staticky specks spattered across it... Which is more or less exactly what happens to a camera's vision when exposed to radiation.
    1:16:00 I suspect that that _is_ a fusion reactor; the image shown looks to be a cross-section of a tokomak (torus-shaped chamber used for real-life fusion reactions)

    I was thinking due to the lightning weapon a name like "Zeus" or something similar might be fitting...
    due to the fact, it is not only the first using the new reactor,
    but also for being the strongest of the mechs currently,
    and it aligns with the theme of using lightning strikes to defeat its enemies
    and the rockets exploding would then be the thunder roaring across the battlefield

    With how your performance went at the end of the video, you can probably start actually moving deeper into enemy bases for resources soon. You definitely can’t fully clear a base, but you could clear a part of it. However, it probably is not very worth it at the moment. Probably in a few videos you could be ready to start diving into bases.

    I think the 63% of memory correction thing for the clones is so that they don't have the an existential crisis on if they are the real one or not. You know you have the cloning tech but from the sounds of it, it doesn't appear that the pilots are aware of the clone until it's done. Which then would lead to the crisis if they saw each other in the base, which is super likely. So the 63% memory correction could just be alterations of events from the memories of the host, like the name of the family dog, or their first job, the street name they grew up on, just enough changes made to the memory that it's "Technically" a new person.

    I still had 2000-ish (edit: 1961) wounded humans when the city started to be repaired. You just have to get the city damage (repair) stat to 85-90% (edit: first day I recovered damage, it was 87% repair, and highest damage reached was 85.01%).

    Never go out without slowing weapons is what I read :D especially later it seems to help tremendously. So it is great that the new mech has one too.
    You were really lucky with your spread of special places and clues though. Mine are terribly placed and probably kills my campaign just because of travel times.
    Nah .. water will not have wind. It will have slowed movement, moving currents that feel like wind and tornados combined and terrible, cave-y terrain. Much better than open terrain with winds :P
    Not to mention how the soup changes your weapon performance ...
    I am curious what you will think about the underwater mech coming up.
    1:03:00 You were red-lining the energy weapons. That does increase the heat from shots as well.
    I know it makes no difference gameplay-wise, but I feel uncomfortable putting rockets down between the legs. : o
    Also losing the slow worries me.

      I'm relying on other mechs backing up my DPS mech with slow, here. I don't think I'm going to be able to get super far if I keep making jack of all trade mechs.

    From some of your comments, I feel like you are assuming that you started with X number of humans, and a specific Y number of them have been wounded from the beginning and slowly getting better. However, it might be that of the X number of humans, some started wounded and others become wounded as the city moves and engages in normal operation, while some of them get better, and you are seeing a net reduction in hospital occupancy each day. That would explain things such as how the artillery improvement causes the number of wounded to be reduced.

    Without giving specific builds, you need a minimum of 2 slowdown rods for a stable reactor. Otherwise, anything goes. There's a steam guide, Reactor Configurations, that just shows every possible combination and results of each without commentary.

    in my experience city damage even if wounded people is a factor will still go down if your progress on repairs outpaces the damage which repairing the city should do as long you don't miss any chances
    as for mr green's new name might I recommend ac/dc for a bad electrical and music joke at once
    also think the memory corrections are either excising the memories of who they were cloned from or simply fixing issues with the cloning done on the fly both are likley given what the city was up to before the war
    also might wanna pick up depth charges soon water sucks and having artillery would be nice

    I think it should be named "Satan", because of that one line from Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny. "Taste my Lightning Sucker!"
    In seriousness, Gungnir, Gae Bulg, Mjolnir, mayhaps Perkunos, ye Lord of Oaks, or good old Zeus would work as well. All good names for a lightning mech that never misses.

    I have some thoughts on nest locations. All coordinates are in standard (x,y) notation.
    (17,13) is not a nest because that would mean that (18,11) has no spots for its third nest that don't invalidate (18,12) only seeing 2.
    (19,12) is a nest because (17,11) has all its nests and (19,10) has all its nests that means the only spot that can satisfy (18,11) having 3 is (19,12).
    (15,9) is a nest because its the only spot for (16,8)'s second nest (15,7) has all its nests and (17,18) has all its nests making the only valid spot (15,9).

    I think the reason the rockets hit walls behind them are for a reason ive seen in my games where it shoots at an enemy said enemy dies before it hits and then does loops causing it to hit the wall behind

    2) If more than one Mech has a tesla do you need to worry about crossing the streams ?? (I ain't afraid of no Operarious)
    3) If you equip more than one tesla to a mech it will need to be called either the Palpatine or The Unlimited Power.... no other names shall be accepted/worthy.

    I love the Nuclear Reactor and toyed with it for like an hour but still understood it much less than you. About only advice I figured out was to use 3 inner/outer resistance and 3 resist multiplier instead of 4 and 2 like the ICE reactors.
