I have an Ibanez EX370FM from 93' it's superbe! Although the Lo-Pro Ibanez bridge is quite difficult to keep in tune haha.. maybe I should change the sprigs lol
Hey man great review... This is my first and only electric guitar now, save every time I open my case justI have to make myself believe that I actually own this.
Yes! They always deliver that quality for good money, and it isnt like they have a limited selection either. I have my eyes on the new RG08F-IPT. 8 strings, multi-piece neck, sparkle finish, gold hardware, and Fishman Fluence Modern 8's for just 900 dollars. Incredible value for the money.
@Sci_ent_ifiC Sui_neG Have to agree. I’ve got an RG450DX and have had others. And watched those blind tests multiple times. I can often hear a small difference, but not enough to say “this guitar is crap” and “this one is awesome”. There isn’t really that much difference.
It depends . Their Qc on the sub $500 category has gotten very sketchy the 10 years. The Grg and Grx series from 15 years ago were Awesome budget guitars ! But now its just way too hit or miss .
Ibanez have always delivered great value for money across all ranges. Unfortunately, and just like many other rock /metal oriented brands, their designs are very distinct and get unfairly looked down upon by many guitar snobs. Most guitar channels (at least a great deal of them ) keep pushing the extremely biased idea you need an old fender or Gibson to get a good guitar tone. Or, of course, a top of the range PRS. Lies aimed at selling re-issues of the previous re-issues of guitars designed back in the 50's, which although undeniably great instruments, have not offered anything new to the player for decades (and no, the silver sky is not innovative, Sorry not sorry...) Ibanez, like many other brands, manufactures incredibly versatile instruments valid in pretty much any musical outlet. If they're good enough for Satriani,Vai, Scofield or the almighty Metheny, they're good enough for everybody else. Rant over 😅
You hit the nail on the head when you said versatile. My RG550 does everything. Yes, it is a metal guitar and a great one. But, it is absolutely not limited to that. The tonnel range is astounding. Cleans, crunch, high gain, high boost, it all sounds great. Jazz, blues, rock, probably country but I don’t know. All sounds great. My absolute favorite is to play it clean with a chorus, some reverb and just a touch of delay. Luscious!
Looks are subjective but I think the RGs and Ibanezs in general are much better looking than those smooth/rounded guitars, never mind all those weird shapes like flying Vs, stars, etc.
My first real guitar in highschool, and the one that I've never let go and still play 25 years later is an RG470FM I love that guitar it plays really nice, and the now naturally aged neck looks amazing.
My first guitar was a japanese RG-570, about 19 years ago I got it from guitar center. Even upgraded the pickups... but then I sold it, and I'm very upset that I did :'(. I have a cheaper fixed bridge (which has it's benefits) RG now that's decent but doesn't compare... I miss the 5 way switch with the single coil, this one just has two humbuckers, and I often want a brighter tone. That position 4 was my favorite for cleans, just awesome. The rg570 cost about 500-550 at the time I believe, and it played incredibly. Absolutely a high end guitar at a (then) mid-range price - except for the stock pickups (powersounds at the time), they were not great. I didn't upgrade the single coil though, that might have been nice, since the straight middle position while certainly bright was a little thin/brittle sounding, and as he pointed out the volume was quite a bit lower, although you can raise it up to help a bit, but go too far and the magnets will affect your strings. Oh, my current one is an RG2EX2 in white, which I think was a guitar center specific model that was basically the same as some other model. It's actually a pretty good looking guitar, and the one area it beats the 570 - the rings around the pickups are metal whereas even the 570 back in the day had plastic pickup rings, although you could swap those out if you wanted. They're necessary for holding the pickups in place though unless you drilled and screwed them into the body. It plays well it's just no Japanese 570, and I miss the fun you can have with a floyd, even though I kept mine blocked off half the time with a stack of quarters taped together. The new bridge tensioning system they have in the backplate now is awesome though, far superior to the older models.
Ibanez and Schecter are my two go to brands for quality and playability. I picked up an Ibanez RGAIX6MQM back in December that is truly amazing. Couldn't be happier. I want to save up for a Prestige in the future.
I love the RG. It's comfortable, well balanced, the neck feels like butter and it can play every kind of music well. It's as close to perfect as you can make a guitar imho.
I have a S420, bought it for 450e in ... 2010. It's still my only guitar, it's just so good. There are better guitars, but nothing that had me go "Wow, this is so much better" enough so i pull the trigger. Bought an Iron Label 7 String RG, but sold it, didn't use it enough. The S is still here though ! The S Series will make you happy for sure.
This is my Current Guitar I'm using now.. It's badass and it's due to your exposure on this beauty which made it the owner now Lots of thanks to Darrell Currently now it's under servicing
I have the same only in two humbuckers no trem bar. Also have a double humbucker rg black body with blue tinge. After playing every thing from jazz to heavy metal the rg is all I play nowadays. Have given away and sold all the other guitars I had. This colour is my daily player.
That's great! Have the fixed bridge version (with no middle pickup) and it is gorgeus! Only minor complain is I would prefer natural finish on the headstock.
@@jepunbiru no it definitly isnt japan made, its far too cheap for that. The only difference i spotted is the tremolo: the 370 has a edge 2 zero (which has a little turning wheel at the back to adjust for the tension of the springs and has zero point return springs to help with tuning stability) while this seems to me to be a edge III without this getting back mechanism and with the higher profile of the fine tuning machines in the back. edit: just realized that Dans guitar in the video (other than the pictures of the linked 470 from sweatwater) has the edge zero II, so it seems to be the exact same guitar.

I think Ibanez is under appreciated... I really liked one similar to that I played 40 years ago... it was double scale 3 pickups... It was really easy to play & sounded pretty fn good :)
I’ve never been a fan of Ibanez either but after searching for my next guitar I ended up purchasing the Nita Strauss Jiva 10. The Jiva is the most effortless playing guitar that I have ever owned. The pickups with switch selector provides endless tones. I have been very happy to own my Jiva.
Got my first Ibanez 3 years ago after years of playing Fender- an S521 for about $400. Loved the neck so much that I almost hate my other guitars now. Since then I bought an RG and a Jiva 10. The new Squire RH might be the last non-Ibanez I ever buy.
From 2008-2011 ibanez made an RG3exfm1...long enough? It was only sold at guitar center. You can pick one up used for 250-350 and its every bit as good as an rg550. Has the v7 and 8 pickups. Same electronics. Neck and body binding. Great hardware. Flame maple top. Beautiful finish. Wizard neck. If you want an 800$ guitar for cheap its a winner
The fixed bridge version of this guitar (without the middle single coil) was my first, and so far only guitar I have. It sounds great for the price. Especially the neck pickup with a clean tone.
I have one! I saw it on the wall in second hand shop in moonburst and had to have it. It's my first and only floating tremolo, and while I've always liked Ibanez guitars, this is the first time I absolutely had to have a guitar.
I have this very same guitar 🎸 in my collection and it plays great in my opinion, I agree with you regarding the difference in loudness between the pickups. I had to adjust the height a little to balance them out a bit, but for the money it looks beautiful and can sound really good. Playing it is a nice change from my Les Paul’s and Fender Strats etc, tuning is pretty stable as well. It just happens to be on a stand in my living room right now coincidentally, and I’ve been playing it for the last fortnight. Considering that I have many more high end guitars, I haven’t felt the need to swap it out for a change just yet. A testament to its fun factor... 🎸👍
I also fell in love with the look of that prestige model, but I already have two prestiges so could not justify buying "the same guitar". Now this on the other hand... :D
@@alevazquez9869 @TheSunMoon I have the 421 in this same blue burst. It's a great guitar, and I highly recommend you pick one up. It feels like a much higher quality instrument than its price point would suggest. I also think the fixed bridge is an asset (much easier set up!), and I don't miss the single coil at all. I mainly play rock and metal .
been thinking of getting this beauty for quite a while... then I chose the Ibanez High Performance RG420HPFM - Autumn Leaf Gradation which is a bit more expensive but has some decent Dimarzios on board...
1:20 Decoding Ibanez names is actually fairly simple. RG is the body type. 400/300 is the series. 70 means it doesn't have a pickguard (50 for the one with pickguard). AH means Ash top. M means maple fretboard. Z means it has the Zero Point floating trem system.
Been playing for years on budget brands and the first “real” guitar I bought with my own money was an Ibanez RGIT20FE a few years back. It feels like a high powered weapon when you hold it. Definitely worth all the praise they get. Awesome demo 🤘🏻
That is one I have been keeping an eye out for. The many-many-pieces through neck and the EMGs, Gotoh tuners, Gibraltar II bridge. Shame they don't make anything like it anymore.
I sold my PRS three years ago when I was meant to be emigrating from Scotland to Texas. Job fell through so bought Yamaha Pacifica didn't love it so upgraded to THIS Ibanez absolutely LOVE the neck and trem system both superior to PRS far prettier too. Will upgraded to Di Marzio pups eventually though Quantum pups pretty decent. Great review Darrell. Blessings from Glasgow.
i have one with two humbuckers RG652 with a hardtail bridge. It''s such a great piece of craftmanship. The output of the humbuckers is high. So really suitable for metal and rock. Really plays smooth for funky chords also. It's a beautiful instrument. Great sounds.
My first guitar was a 1985 Ibanez Roadstar II. Dark red w/ blk pickguard, push/push tone knob to split the bridge humbucker, 2 (weak) single coils and a tremolo system you could beat the crap out of (ala Brad Gillis of Night Ranger) and it stayed in tune. Fast forward to 2020 and my $500 Jem Jr won't stay in tune at all. The collar that the bar goes into won't stay tight. I keep the back plate off due to constantly having to tighten the Allen screw.
I have an Ibanez RG170 from 1997 black with powerhouse pickups, wizard neck. It sat in my dad's basement for years no case. I bought it when I was 16. I gave it to him after I got a better guitar, ibanez RG420. I got it back to add to my guitar collection 21 years later. New strings, and a couple small adjustments, it plays and sounds killer, very solid, it wasn't expensive either. I play it almost as much as my more expensive guitars. It's also my second ever owned electric. My point is, ibanez seems to hold up very strong. Keep jammin everyone!
@@johnnie3Chords that's awesome! it's one of the lesser known vintage guitars (aside from being a Lukather signature) but is such a high quality instrument. I'm never giving mine up, lol.
I bought that same model of guitar in 2017 and I couldn’t tolerate the quality. The dimarzio designed pickups are mid at best, and regarding the bridge tremolo system It’s chipped around the posts and became completely useless, I still need to replace it to this day. I upgraded the pickups pretty soon after owning the guitar. I found that I flattened the frets from them being soft. Another thing is the dark nickel plating rubbed off everywhere, plus I got tired of the pickup surrounds aesthetically; not really something I look for in a truly modern guitar these days. I decided to sell off the pickups and save up for a charvel dk24 pro mod which was 1000x better. Didn’t have to upgrade the pickups on that so I’d say I broke even at the time, minus the fact I still have the RG collecting dust, I’ve been meaning to let it go.
I just ordered this same RG470AHM Blue moon burst guitar for 2 reasons. 1...I recently picked up an RG450M silver metallic (this use to be a Sweetheart exclusive) for $150. I bought it because the neck was incredible, even for an 8 year old guitar, and EVERY fret rang out, not one dead spot! And almost no fret wear. All I've done to it is clean it and replace the screws on the pickguard. (it already had new strings on it). I've never owned an Ibanez, but this guitar sold me on the brand. And B... This guitar is beautiful, and I want those Quantum pups!
I have one RG470 Caribbean Blue from 2000, one RG760 Jewel Blue from 1988, one S8QM Red Maple Burst from 2014 and one RG550XH 30 fret Black Pearl from 2015. I love them all. 🎸🎶
Sweet. I have had the blue moon burst fixed bridge RG421 version of that since summer of 2019. It is a great guitar. I picked up mine for 265 dollars with a slight blemish.
I haven't seen one with an Edge Zero II bridge, awesome! They were shipping with the Ibanez standard DL which is a FR copy, the Edge Zero 2 is a much better bridge IMHO. Excellent demo, I sold my 652 AHM-NGB a few years ago and miss it, may have to pick one of these new 470s up! Over the past 6 years or so as I've sold stuff off and kept what I want I have one Gibson LP, 2 PRS Core, 1 PRS SE and 4 Ibanez (different levels). Some people our age seem to always hate on Ibanez for some reason but they offer a great product that's very easy to play.
@@SameerKhan-cm3pp Don't know about RG 470ahm which is this one in video(it doesn't have zero edge tremolo i think) but RG370ahmz which i have holds really good as it have edge zero ii, basically same guitars but 370 one has better floating bridge.
I have everything from a Talman Acoustic to a Vintage MIJ Flying V from Ibanez, the RG is my favorite, I have 2 421 right now. One Vintage MIJ, one Indonesia, all of them are really good guitars. This one is killer looking. I love the Quantum pickups, for a stock pickup they're really good.
I don't have much money so I went with the RG421 AHM same color. Im still a beginner so I can't tell a difference in quality between guitars but I'm loving mine!
I own an RG and a "vintage" one. I use the slightly larger strap buttons on all my guitars. You can get used RGs dirt cheap. Ultimate Shredder's guitar with insanely low action. Only thing I own that's not a Fender or Gibson. Floyd Rose and locking nut; insanely low action; quality feel; used for $150.00 or so; what's not to like! 🤟
About 10 years ago my dad was going to give me an 870 premium. Beautiful guitar in red desert. But unfortunately Ibanez didnt have it available for christmas so he gave me a strat MIM and I love the guitar to this day. But ibanez has such beautiful guitars, one has to own at least one
Such a great review! So many people seem to think they have to wank out poorly done shred with way too much gain on these guitars. You did an awesome job showing how the RG shines across multiple tones and played really solid tasty licks... I've got my eye on my third RG now! Thanks for the video Darrell
I've got the 421 version without the trem , had it all professionally set up , looks , sounds and plays amazing , now I'm thinking I should have got the trem version !! 😕🎸
I was about to buy the 421 today before i saw this video, now im not sure if i should buy this version instead? What do you with the 421 think? Do you miss the trem? Is it worth the extra 100?
I have a S670 for a few years now. Plays and sounds as good as my prestige and the two premiums I currently own. Great bang for your buck guitar and typical of every single Ibanez I’ve ever owned in that it stays in tune for days no matter how much you use the trem.
@@joefromnowhere5296 Right now I have a higher end Epiphone Les Paul and a Mexican Fender Strat... When Darrell said this is a good guitar for someone who had... well, exactly the guitars I own my ears perked up.
@@fingolfen01 Also own an Epi Les paul and a mexi strat . This particular version of the 470 is high on my list because of the ash body . I currently own 29 guitars with Ibanez occupying the most space in the herd at 9. Some set up in E or D standard . Drop D or drop C and even a seven string iron label. You would be making a great choice in picking up the 470 shown in this video or the 670. Just one mans opinion so do your research . In the end niether will be a bad choice.
That exact model of RG is my main, has been for 2 years now, its such a beauty! Edit Its 3am in England currently, and this video made me wanna set up the trem to float true
I have a RG5EX1 I bought years ago.. Flat black with kind of a lighting bolt fret markers. Completely stock and it is one of my best sounding guitars.. The action on it is sooooo smooth,, I can start in a mellow Neil Zaza and take it to a screaming Randy Rhoads effortlessly... One thing I love is active pickups and when I first got the guitar I thought about changing the stock pickups out and putting in a active pickup but I love the sound so much stock, that I just cant bring myself to change anything... Brands I own, BC Rick flying V deluxe Jr, Gibson les Paul, Jackson strat, Charvel kind of a explorer looking thing, and many more... Now I dont sell my guitars but if I did, I would sell that jackson and charvel before I ever even considered getting rid of my RG... In fact, its my couch guitar.. I play it literally every day. LOL.Absolutely love it.
I have more than 15 electric guitars but no Ibanez. A friend of mine was only into Ibanez so i bought a Genesis RG 550L RF and it kicks my ass ! What a wonderful guitar made in Japan and usually i change the pick ups or the Floyd Rose system but on this Ibanez i just changed the pickguard by a pearlized one and the buttons with chrome buttons. Now i am really into Ibanez and the Trem System is really nice and efficient.
I am a sucker for an Ibanez. Already have an Ibanez RG 370 DX bought in 2004 in dark metallic blue which has a very similar pickup, tremolo and nut arrangement and price bracket. Mine looks absolutely gorgeous but this 370AHMZ previewed by you is even more gorgeous and to me sounds fab. I will be buying one Thanks Darrell for your professional as usual preview and demonstration.
Yup, this RG is straight up blue-tiful! 😂😂😂 Enjoy the demo!

I have it’s little brother and omg the finish is one you have to see for yourself. This is gonna be my next one. Thanks Darrell for the demo.
Beautiful guitar, great pickup options and awesome duel/dual guitar demonstration!
I've been wanting to get the RG421AHM (the fixed bridge version of the guitar in the video) for like the last 2 years lmao
I wanna get that guitar. I'm a beginner seeking a proper instrument to enjoy my learning journey.
Whoa no way! I have this guitar! So cool to see everyone else digs it too
Your audio quality is amazing!
It's been some time, since I've heard such beautiful melodic duo solo...
REALLY beautiful playing on the "One-Minute Solo" !!! Very impressive phrasing !!!
Bought an RGA a couple of weeks ago on a whim, usually a tele player, and I have to say I absolutely love it. Will definitely buy another.
Another fine review Darrell! The RG is beautiful and looks to be built well. As always your playing is superb. I love it. Cheers.
I have the prestige version and it's amazing. Ibanez rocks! My favorite guitar of yours is the S series in some sort of desert quilt.
I got this last month after almost a year of saving money. its absolutely amazing.
Congrats! You won’t be disappointed!
So far I've bought 2 guitars on 2021. A Gretsch 5655 TG (black gold) and this Ibanez. I couldn't be happier with either.
Thanks Darell.... Just ordered one of these blue babies.... Waiting to get my hands on these.
been thinking of getting this beauty for quite a while... then I chose the Ibanez High Performance RG420HPFM - Autumn Leaf Gradation which is a bit more expensive but has some decent Dimarzios on board...
Great demo, great guitar ... thanks Darrell!
And the 0 in 370/350 means it's a Trem version. If it's 1 in place of 0 like 421 it's a hard tail version.
@@rango14994 Thanks for the addition! I missed that.
@@rango14994So my RG-565 with no pickguard and an edge trem has the name because of it being an old model and would be a 570 by todays standards?
As a RG owner, I recommend using a compressor for the coil tap tones for getting more volume from them (I use the Keeley Compressor Plus).
i have one with two humbuckers RG652 with a hardtail bridge.
I recently bought an Ibanez S after I saw your video about them. Thanks a lot. It's an awesome guitar. I recommend the lower price S models too
It’s model number means
RG- body, 4- 400 series, 7- pickup HSH without pick guard, 0- tremolo
AH- ash M- maple neck Z- ZPS Trem system
I just bought the 450 and am in love with it
I have an Ibanez RG170 from 1997 black with powerhouse pickups, wizard neck.
Oh yes, Ibanez guitars are great and have been so for a long, long time! I love their 80's stuff in particular 😀
I have an '83 Roadstar II that is absolutely great.
I'm refinishing an 83 Roadster 2 that I bought new in 83.
@@BigIronTexas me too , my favorite guitar !
@@johnnie3Chords that's awesome! it's one of the lesser known vintage guitars (aside from being a Lukather signature) but is such a high quality instrument. I'm never giving mine up, lol.
@@BigIronTexas - "Lesser known"? I reckon that's one of the *best* known models! RS1010SL, in a blue-burst finish, right? 🙂
Am I the only one wishing/hoping he releases an instrumental album....?
As always
Beautiful guitar.
Beautiful riffs.
Beautiful man.
That beard doe. What’s your secret?
Lol. It's hair like the hair on your head. Some guys can grow a good one some guys can't
I believe it’s a little thing called genetics
@@Jona_The_Than_D ok
@@SomeGuy-oq2fl Mostly genetics, but there are things you can do to help your beard grow thicker, like good nutrition and working out.
That a sweet swwet beauty and what's even more sweet is the price just beautiful..
I bought a brand new RG for 400 euros and for the price its an amazing value. Great build quality!!
Luckily I own that guitar, well not the one he's holding but the same guitar and yes it's Beautiful😍
The trem on the one in the video is different than the ones on the website!!
I went to the store to check out some guitars and when I saw this stunner I immediately knew I had to have it... And now I do!
Back in the day, the RG’s were in the 500$ to 600$ range. I still have a 92’ RG570 that plays like a dream!
In Europe they came with the Edge II, great trem. For US market they came with the standard DL. I guess shipping distances needed to be compensated?
nice! Enjoy the new axe! I'm an ibanez fanboy!
I have the same guitar in black and I love it, plays so well🤟🏻
How good does it hold the tuning?
What a good demo, nice to hear the cleans shown properly. Well done sir.
I don't have much money so I went with the RG421 AHM same color. Im still a beginner so I can't tell a difference in quality between guitars but I'm loving mine!
I own an RG a bit different to this one H-H and hard tail bridge it's an amazing guitar I really love it
I have always loved Ibanez guitars since the 80's! After that I've had several including a 550 and a 470. Great players and great value!
My first guitar that I just got was a Glarry burning fire black guitar.
I have five ibanez’ including an RG, an artist, a law suit Les paul, a 900 series bass and a 12 string Concorde. Love em all
I own an RG and a "vintage" one.
That blue color is just awesome. Bought my RG370 a couple of years ago after falling in love with that blue. Plays nice too =) Great value.
Such a great review! So many people seem to think they have to wank out poorly done shred with way too much gain on these guitars. You did an awesome job showing how the RG shines across multiple tones and played really solid tasty licks... I've got my eye on my third RG now! Thanks for the video Darrell
Beautiful guitar and super comfortable, I had that guitar but I returned it because of the terrible fret work and almost zero sustain.
I've got the 421 version without the trem , had it all professionally set up , looks , sounds and plays amazing , now I'm thinking I should have got the trem version !! 😕🎸
Get the trem put on it😜
Same here
It also lacks middle pickup
But man I love it
I was about to buy the 421 today before i saw this video, now im not sure if i should buy this version instead? What do you with the 421 think? Do you miss the trem? Is it worth the extra 100?
I've actually been looking at this one - also looking at the S670QM - going to have to do some more homework...
Loving the less processed audio. Gives a better sense of the tones. 🎸
That exact model of RG is my main, has been for 2 years now, its such a beauty!
Edit
Its 3am in England currently, and this video made me wanna set up the trem to float true
3:12am here in Glasgow neighbouring Brit lol like you I've got the same model love it wow that Wizard III neck marvellous.
Shalom
@@RevGary I started on Ibanez guitars, the Wizard III is such a homely feel! Nothing rivals it
I've got the hard tail version of this on order (Rg421ahm-BMT) and have been waiting since Christmas for stock delivery. Can't wait to get it.
Beautiful guitar and beautiful sound
love these videos...
you are one cool Canadian
I've had mine for a couple of months. Absolutely love it!
That intro jam reminded me a lot of thin lizzy meets iron maiden🤘🤘🤘
The Ibanez RG is my favorite guitar design of all time... they just nailed it!
The middle position of that guitar is amazing
