He was by far the best striker until he got injured, so, to talk about the best who ever played the game, is hypothesis. He may have been the best without injuries, in his prime he definitely was. Until today, I've never seen a player who caused so much fear within the opponent fan base, not even Messi or CR7. After his injuries, he was a world class player, before, he was supernatural.

Admittedly I followed him mainly when he was playing in Italy. What I liked a lot of him, along with his skills, strength, speed of course, was his being a true team player, humble even when his status was godlike. You'd get the feeling he was just one of the boys, and as loyal to the trainer as the latest drafted youngster. I didn't follow much his career later on, but I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed that humble and likeable.
Stats or awards sometimes don't paint real picture, he was not only most skilled but insane physical & mental prowess. I started loving soccer because of him. In 2009 playing for Corinthians back in Brazill after all his injuries, he played a final of a national cup against Internacional, my childhood team. He destroyed Internacional. I couldnt do anything. It was Ronaldo. He was like 230lbs. But.. I mean.. It was Ronaldo. I didn't even got upset.

Its mind blowing to me that Ronaldo was at his best at the age of 17-20 winning the ballondor at just 20. When most players peak at 28 he was truly ahead of everyone by a fucking country mile.

Admittedly I followed him mainly when he was playing in Italy. What I liked a lot of him, along with his skills, strength, speed of course, was his being a true team player, humble even when his status was godlike. You'd get the feeling he was just one of the boys, and as loyal to the trainer as the latest drafted youngster. I didn't follow much his career later on, but I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed that humble and likeable.

I remembered the time when I got a green cap with R9 on it when I was a kid, I loved it so much, I woke up early on the saturday mornings just to pick a glinse of Ronaldo on tv to copy his style, movement and technique on the street.. When I saw R7 for the first time at Man utd debut I laughed my ass off cuz there was only one Ronaldo.
Ronaldinho, Kaká, CR7, Iniesta, Zidane, Pelé, Beckenbauer, Cruyff, Best, Luis Suárez (Spain), Kubala, Di Stéfano, were all phenomenal, but there were not phenomenons. Ronaldo was a phenomenon. Leo Messi and Maradona have been more than phenomenal, but they were still not phenomenons, not like Ronaldo Nazario.
