- Segments of Keith Richards talking about how the Blues kicked off in Britain, along with the Rolling Stones themselves. Taken from a BBC4 show, "Can Blue Men Play The Whites", as part of Blues Britannia. Also features Bill Wyman and Paul Jones.
"You had it all the time, pal. You just didn't listen" The significance of what Keith said there can't be overstated.
The Stones were over the target before anybody else even knew there was a target.
If they were given the airtime, things might have been different.
Keith at his absolute coolest here😃🎸🔥👌🌟If ever I'm feeling down I put myself on this Keef Blues in London utube clip, The Blues, The Rolling Stones and us Fans Versus the World🌍, R.I.P Charlie Watts🥁 we miss you 🙏
Keith is just an absolute Legend period and we share the same birthday which makes me love him even more. The Rolling Stones are quite simply the coolest band ever assembled.
You mean the rattling bones. I am 70 and they just blew me away in 1965 with Satisfaction. Have stuck to them since then.
I love to listen to Keith speaking, he's always right on target!
I Love Keith he's so Real !!!
Thank you for this, love to hear Keith talk about the blues.
"you had it all the time "the blues" but you just didn't listen. " What a great quote from Keith Richards.
Keith is and always will be heart and soul of my beloved Rolling stones
I'm from Australia, found Keiffs music among my Dad's Lobo, Bread and Eagles vinyls.
You are a legend Keiff ❤❤
Bless you Keith, just keep being creative and free.
The bass line in Get Off Of My Cloud is one of the wonders of the world.
you gotta love Kieth. when he smiles his face lights up, but the final seconds when he says "why did you start it, how do you wanna finish it? that's the blues" you would not want to mess with him. his eyes are so "don't fuck with me."
That little grin Bill and Brian share at 4:10 is sweet as hell.
"Why did you start it?..."How do you want to finish it?"... "And that's the Blues" ~ Keith Richards. If that's not on OG statement, I don't know what is.
I can not ever express my admire of Keith.Always was and will always bee one and only!
You have to ask yourself "what kind of World are we going to leave for Keith?"
he looks so chill here. Gotta love him
This is great. This gets at some of the meat of a conversation that; if I could, I would want to have with Keith.
Reminds me of the quote from Sonny Boy Williamson on The Yardbirds who were his UK backing band and İ think probably UK 'Blues' musicians in general..'Yea..those white guys In England...they want to play the blues so badly....and they do!...
The look at his last words - great!
Guitar skill debates aside, Keith Richards is.... well, he's Keith fucking Richards. He makes anything he even thinks about instantly 100% more awesome.
"Your overloading"... Keith Richards : "We want to overload !" Priceless !
Keith is a BANG. Long life to him!
I like this better each time I'm offered it. He's teaching me life. And I'm a serious brain injury survivors with a slur too, so he's my inspiration. I've waited 7 years for old farts to let amazing young women in, who really do care. And they are so practical!
When the Stones came out right after the Beatles us kids at the time knew they would be HUGE..They helped free us..That’s what happened. We were freed.
The fellow who turned down Brian Jones for the singer spot is not Steve Winwood but is Paul Jones, the guy who sang "Do Wa Diddy Diddy," and "Pretty Flamingo" with Manfred Mann in the 60's.
They seemed to be one step ahead when British RB was hot. Thats what made them stand out with a signature sound. With Mick's ambiguous singing style and Keith's unique playing it demanded attention. 😎
Keith's the Robert Johnson of the21st century
TRES Cool
Love this guy
Awesome!! Thanks so much.....
LOVE hearing the phrase, "Brian's group, the Rolling Stones. Yeah, baby. It WAS Brian's group....
For a while, three or four years at best.
That’s true. But Brian founded the group, picked the members, did all the promoting and booking and “finances”, such as they were. (And, yes....he did give himself an extra 5 pounds a week, which was a sticking point for Mick and Keith, especially, for years.) And, of course, Brian chose the direction their music was going to go, and steered the band in that direction. Without him, Mick and Keith could very likely have ended up unknown outside of the London area....and, obviously, Mick and Keith were urged to write original material by manager Andrew Loog Oldham, and they were successful right from the beginning...the early days were good and exciting and Brian and Keith were especially close. Brian had the vision and the drive, but it took all 5 of them to make up the “Rollin’ Stones”, aka The Rolling Stones (after they went through a few early members, and after Ian Stewart was relegated to pianist/roadie/glue that stuck them all together).
@@19Sioux52 And that's true too.
However, according to a letter a fan sent to him on how he formed the band, and this was in 1963, his response to her was that the Rolling Stones actually formed from (an amalgam of) two different bands. One was Blues, Inc. that Brian himself was previously part of (along with Charlie Watts), and the other was Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys that was Mick and Keith's former band.
this guy is one of my heroes. The King Kief ..
The Legend ,The greatest ,all time........
ya, all the time.................
Keith Richards face should be on billboards with an anti-drugs message. He destroyed himself just like Ozzy did. Even though they stopped using, they didn't recover..
--- BULL !! ... some can take it some (Ozzy Osbourne) don´t .. KEITH´s Spirit is too strong to fail with any kind of abuse .. you´re either too yellow or too weak living in fear or all of it the same time .. stop preaching, it bores the shite out of those strong enough to survive anything that comes along to stand there twitting at all the others, the weaker ones that need to recover ...
@@martinderry6728 you got that right.
Hey "Guitar Player" what have YOU done lately???
Keith Richards is the sexiest man alive, Jon Bon Jovi is number two
grande zio Keith.....ti vogliamo bene...noi nipotini del Rock'n'Roll...
keith and bill...too cool
Yeah... it's was the Stones that introduced me to the Blues .. back in the 60s...big time...Muddy and the Chess lot..all the blues greats .then it just kept Rolling..into Soul..Jazz.. Funk..etc... all versions of the blues.
This could have been a real gem of insightful info from Keith Richards if it hadn't been cut to shreds
One forgets what a great blues band they were/are
Jeff Beck is a legend, his albums are regarded brilliant by fellow guitarist"s especially Blow by Blow & Wired. Beck has incredible emotion, thats why he is regarded the guitarists guitarist! Also Peter Green from Fleetwood Mac, BB King said he got goosebumps when Peter played! You don"t know much do you?
@9mej it's Brian on "Confessin the blues" (2nd Stones album)
Bill is also there talking, luv it!!!
Yes it was Brian Jones band.
im looking forward to watch the full version! any place could i get the full video? sadly im not on the uk so i couldnt get it on the bbc website.
"How did you start it? How do you want to finish it? That's the blues."
I love how at the end you hear a glimpse of Zeppelin about to be discussed.
Rock&Roll Blues....Super Star...Mega Nova
Why, whenever I watch these interviews with Keith Richards do I always expect Blind Pew to turn up?
Great Richard you are still fantastic buddy
I still love THE STROLLING BONES....
@RandyAKing
It's from A BBC documentary called: Blues Britannia: 'Can Blue men sing the whites'
N no bio
5:51 is such a great Keith moment
Pure Beauty!
“Let’s stand up, be men, and give ‘em the blues”
2 seconds at the end ,LED ZEP....
Why are people so scathing of the Stones?
I was never a HUGE fan but i respect them TOTALLY, they loved Music and persued their dreams, Music is EVER evolving and Stones played their part..
People who peddle vitriolic dribble are blinkered and ignorant.
Music belongs to the Universe - Rufus Thomas RIP...
Don't think that many are scathing.Plenty more syncophants if you ask me....And I,m a lifelong fan of anything pre '73.But let's face it the past 50 don't match the first 10 save a few notable exceptions ✌️
Call me a fucking freak, but there's something eerily sexy about Keith Richards. He doesn't come off as an old man, but as well preserved rock star... even if he does look a little mummified.
Shit - how come we cant get shows like this in the US?? Some shit just doesn't change!
excellent vid, well done!!!!!!
An open mind is all you need.
Right on Brother....
You are hero also Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.
Love the stones poster behind Bill
I like how you can hear The Yardbirds at the end.
Anyone know where this is from?
ua-cam.com/video/sXRTgHvmG28/v-deo.html
kieth has done it all seen it all and is it all
At 6.10 mark mind my microphone pure gold! I can only imagine the look of horror as the engineers watch needles peg out on the right deep into the red!
F... I Love This Band !
Keef, Is it true that Sir Mick has an extremely small male member that Marianne Faithful used to call it wee banger?
What documentary is this?
Which version of siitin on the top of the world is at 1.57?
@rigormortiiis you are right, but also a genius of music.
thanks
Yes, we agree, that is the blues.
what is the song that starts at 1.57?
I remember watching this documentary on TV, with my trusty dobro next to me thinking Gotta Love the blues baby!!! lol
@276merton
keith is what he is. he doesn't care what he looks like. he has said that when Mick got Babyface in to produce one of the stones albums, Keith said to him, "You might be Babyface now, but stick with him (Mick) for much longer and you too will have a face like mine."
@337camo
he now has arthritis in his knuckles. it won't stop his playing as it is on the first knuckle. only keith could get away with getting arthritis, and not have it affect his playing. it's probably been brought on with playing for nearly 60 years. when you think about it, playing a guitar makes you use your fingers in a way they aren't designed for.
I really don't care if Richards is a junkie. As far as musical passion goes, this guy is one of my heroes.
Rock and roll was done thru the back door based on the blues. The youngin's don't know it but that was the start, way back even from 1890's- looong time ago.
Bill Wyman looks better now than he ever did when he was in the Stones.
"lala and all that" love Keith
@rigormortiiis i know what you're saying, no matter what he looks like, he never really seems old ya know?
In 1954 a white American guy recorded covers of Arthur Big Boy Crudup's "That's Alright Mama", Junior Parker's "Mystery Train", Roy Brown's Good Rockin' Tonight, Kokomo Arnold's "Milk Cow Boogie" Arthur Gunter's "Baby Let's Play House" Ray Charles" 'I Got A Woman --
ELVIS PRESLEY -- and Keith et al ALL listened to Elvis...
He also recorded Lowell Fulsom's " Reconsider Baby" Jimmy Reed's "Big Boss Man" and "Baby What You Want Me To Do"? AND Ray Charle's "What'd I Say" --
Finishing with how many more times
Amazing Keith is able to string words in a sequence.
Science should study his DNA as anyone who has abused themselves as much as Keith and still erect and breathing is worthy of Scientific research..
Keith may be the Cure to many diseases, what a tripper, always love hearing Keith. his wicked laugh is so infectious and funny...
Keiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiith !! ;-)
Wheres this from
a great artist
Oh please. Their management asked them do you want to keep playing the blues or do you want to become rich and famous. The rest as they say is history.
(message from the four head monster to the rolling stones......Your Welcome!)
@cedrikledlp Great post, You are very Correct about age, or looks..Thanks for bein real PEACE
Who is Keefs hair stylist ? Ive seen more tidy traveler sites !
you're a pole smoker
1:21 - 1:56 - Paul Jones?
@@jake105 that's Brian, I think they meant he looked a bit like Paul McCartney in that photo
i like keith...it`s.
"Aha! You had it all the time, pal." LOL
Cars Hiss By My Window 06:08 ? : )
keiths words around 4:40 sketch one of the largest phenomena in the 20th century, it's aftermath is today's popculture. in a nutshell that is
well he is not old because he remains way more hip than many who came after him...as he said, he was not looking for the correct recording methods, but the incorrect ones!
@michelle88960 ahh that explains alot. yea playing guitar can really fuck your fingers up over a long period of time. thanks for the information
Not knocking our American Blues but the blues is the last thing I'd want to hear after my country was bombed straight to a toxic hell.
That's when music change the stones doing a little red rooster it all came out
@ritter89 recently in an interview Keith said taking Heroin, took the pressure off fame, it blurred the edges! so your comment he lacks neurosis is false, sorry! Drugs helped him cope.
Who was the cat at the beginning of this video who turned down Brian Jones's offer to be the lead singer in his band? Second question: After he gets up out of bed every morning, does he promptly kick himself in the ass?
Paul Jones - the lead singer of Manfred Mann.
