You are a lighthouse, David Reid. Through the Holy Spirit, you expose the murkiness and confusion that man's places on God's holy scriptures. Glad I found you. God is Good!
So Peter received the keys to the kingdom of heaven when the Holy Spirit came upon them in Acts? What did they have to do with those "keys"? What was done at the point that this was fulfilled? What was the point of it?
So after the Lord breathed the holy Spirit on the apostles in john 20, were then they able to forgive sins to others? Also, how come does it say they received the holy Spirit but in acts 2 they were gathered together because they were to receive the Holy Spirit because it hadn't come yet. Isn't it that a contradiction? Could you please explain to me?
@@ColumbusBibleChurch awesome. How about my second question. How is it that in john 20 the apostles received the Spirit but in acts 2 and when jesus departed, he commanded them to wait for the holy ghost in Jerusalem because they hadn't received him yet? That's a contradiction to me.
@@ColumbusBibleChurch in John 7:37-39 Jesus spoke of the Holy Spirit whom those who believed in him were GOING TO receive, for the Spirit hadn't yet been given for Jesus had NOT yet been GLORIFIED. My understanding is that Jesus was glorified after his resurrection and therefore, it was until after he had ascended that the disciples were empowered with the Holy Spirit 50 days later. In john 20 Jesus hadn't been glorified yet, so how is it that they received the holy Spirit before Jesus even died? I don't see how that fits together.

John 20:22 says that Jesus breathed on them and said to them, "receive the Holy Spirit". Nkjv. That contradicts luke 24:49.
But Matthew 18:18-20 says “ye” referring to many people 🤷🏽♂️ I am a bit confused there
The promise was to them all. And they all received it on the Upper Room. That is what I see.
Praise with Nkanyezi The disciples asked Jesus a question at the beginning of Chapter 18.

The twelve couldn't arbitrarily forgive sins. They could preach the gospel that resulted in the forgiveness of sins.

For one thing, not all of the apostles are even present in John 20.

Does John 20 say that they received the Holy Ghost? Doesn't Luke 24:49 indicate that they are to tarry and receive the Holy Ghost in the future?
