No. We need real heroes from time to time. Not like American comics that have abandoned the idea of hero and deconstructed their characters to the point that they aren't anything close to heroes. The StrawHats are could easily screw over other people with their actions. It just so happens that they, so far, have been beneficial to the people they've encountered.

@@thirdplanet4471 And thankfully he hasn't caused great harm to good people so far but like I said he could easily do so and it still wouldn't contradict his character. Just because he's honest about it doesn't mean I'm not concerned on that possibility. Also, That's why I love Deku from My Hero Academia. Most American comics anyways are either terrible stories or characters who play hero ombut aren't anything as such.
Arno Wisp, superhero comics only went to shit whenever normie SJWS ruined the comic book franchise, and I hate Deku as a character because a Shonen protagonist isn’t supposed to be a whinnying, crying, little bitch like Deku for example badass Shonen protagonists are Zoro from One Piece, SSJ2 Gohan from DBZ, Killia from Hunter X Hunter 2011, Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Goku from Dragon Ball, Zatch Bell from Zatch Bell, Naruto from Naruto, and Light Yagami from Death Note just to name a few.
And yet, even though Luffy will freely admit that he is selfish, I actually think that he *is* a hero. He's acted heroically many times for entire islands and countries. Sure his motivations may have been to only help out the people closest to him, like his friends, but his actions often prove liberating and beneficial for so many others.
To me it totally makes sense since he is the son of a revolutionary and the grandson of the biggest hero in the navy, he is heroic in his veins but he projects it in his own way, he doesn’t want to dedicate his whole life to a corrupt government and he doesn’t want to disconnect himself from his loved ones for the greater good, he simply wants to be the man with the most liberty in the world, and he is willing to give this freedom to whoever he befriends and will fight to the ends of the earth to protect his family
I think oda just wants to make sure we understand that luffy is complex...he does not want people seeing him as a hero...he's different hes himself...for better or worse...
Well, Anti Hero is title you may looking for Luffy In his Core he is a good guy(wants freedom, saving people he cares/innocent), but not entirely(would be an absolute nightmare to the cook/sometime his ignorance can be annoying)
Luffy has only one rule: Being free! That is why all the members from his pirate crew act so independently, because all their goals just happened to match Luffy's. The story goes beyond, making every member to believe that turning Luffy into pirate king will help them at some point to realize their dreams. Following this philosophy gives more sense to the idea that pirates are pirates because of their greed and selfishness (in my opinion). However, with One Piece being a shonen battle, everything has to be a little bit more "colorful" to the readers!
This is exactly why in the Jaya arc Luffy doesn’t positively respond to Blackbeard even though the speech he gives is completely identical to Luffy’s philosophy… At face value. Blackbeard and his crew are the dark reflection of the Straw Hats, willing to do the most heinous acts in order to achieve their goals.
Bad guy : join us, together we can rule new world Luffy : never, you hurt peoples and i will never forgive you! Bad guy : but i have foods Luffy : wakatta.
wardyyan ryuuga im 100% sure that luffy willn’t do that shit think of it shiki gives offer to rogers to conquer the world but he don’t want it because he don’t want to be someones underling ya think luffy is so stupid to accept that shit if you think then go stop watching OP
luffy has never fought bc of pity which is what most heroes tend to do, stick up for the weak. when usopp was fighting for his life for his own island, that's when luffy fought with him, bc he showed he has courage and strength. luffy didn't wanna fight for momo until he also stepped up and showed some chivalry and only then luffy agreed to help. sure some of the things he does is heroic, but he isn't a hero. just a dude who wants to do what he thinks is right.
Even with Shirahoshi too! He shit on her until she got the courage to follow him out in megalo's stomach. He helped her out with deken because mainly he did take her out and she was courageous enough to follow him so she becomes his responsibility (on top that she fed him as well).
There is SOME truth to Luffy's reasoning; a hero is always expected to do the right thing, but Luffy only wants to do whatever he wants. If what he wants coincides with the right thing to do, then to him, that's just a coincidence. In the end, it's really all about how you see yourself, y'know?
@Kiyomi I read this other comment further analyzing Luffy character, and I’ll try to make it justice. Basically Luffy is saying that a Hero is willing to sacrifice what is dear to him in order to do the righteous thing, take Garp for example the so called Hero of the Navy he was willing to let Ace die, he chose his job over his family, meanwhile Luffy is the kind of guy that doesn’t sell out his friends and will always protect them no matter the situation, damned be the consequences. In this instance, he doesn’t care if the fish people see him as a villain or someone bad, this Hody Jones fella is threatening his friends and Luffy wants to punch the heck out of him, and it is simple as that, he is a Pirate so to him it is expected to not have the best of perceptions, he’ll protect his friends and family no matter that the world thinks of him
@shanks the scarlet emperor If what Luffy wants to do just happens to coincide with what a hero would do, that would make no difference to him. Luffy's the type of character who'd rather focus on things that affect him on a personal level. Whether it's something as simple like fighting over seconds at dinner, or something deep and meaningful as being there for a friend, it doesn't matter what everyone else sees as right and wrong, he does what HE thinks is right.
I think this scene right here along with the time Luffy stopped Usopp when he was asking about the One Piece explain everything a viewer needs to know about Luffy's character tbh
Typically, he and the crew leave positive changes in their wake and save people from certain doom. Luffy isn't often driven to save someone for the sake of saving them; it's usually only if he feels he owes something to them or he sees someone he likes being treated unfairly that he takes action so I wouldn’t possibly call him a hero cause he’s more “both”
Zoro is like the older brother Luffy had instead of Ace in his life, and Sabo in Dressrosa onwards seems to be a better older brother to Luffy than Ace.
@@RoronoaZoro-ur6hr zoro is not Luffys older brother lmao. Luffy is the man Zoro wants to follow. Luffy isn't as stupid as people thinks he is. And Ace was a good big brother. Alot of what Luffy values came from Ace. Like living without Regrets and being free.
Funny thing is Luffy encompasses all the major aspects of a hero . The only thing holding his simple mind back is him being too greedy to share his meat with anyone but luffy. Has shown that his is willing to starve for those that he calls friend.
To be fair we all know if Luffy saw someone starving to death on a sidewalk he’d (reluctantly) give them some of his food, like Goku he isn’t a Superhero that goes around looking for crimes to stop and people to help but if he just happens to be walking by when stuff like that is happening he’ll step in.
It's not even expansive, people are just stupid and stuck in "Um Actually..." mode. Says more about them, than the character. Just chatty loons who want to feel right.
Despite being with luffy now, chopper is still shocked everytime at how luffy behaves, i absolutely love his shocked reactions to luffy. He is very cute as well
Luffy may be right. However I knew from start that all he did was personal to him. However despite all of that, something in my mind still tells me he's a hero. Not like others really, but the type who follows his heart. That follows what truly is right by his soul which turned to be true in many cases. He's the type that denies being a hero yet is stl a hero in his own right. Heroes DO NOT want to die, they will save lives sure and maybe are ready to die which both luffy and garp do numerous times. They still try to survive and live. I hope luffy understands that someday...maybe he will later on when seeing scabbard bravery. Until then I'm glad he at least likes heroes....and that he agreed to be one thanks to meat
Luffy : Heroes selflessly save people Some live concepts : Allow us to introduce ourself Luffy : No, too hard to understand (There's a live concept that says "When you help people, you're helping yourself") A Hero also depends on who you are, Luffy is a hero for his friends, and he's a "Hero" simply by not being an $hole
That was one of my favorite moment Ah no wait every moment in One piece is always funny (except serious ones like the war to save ace you know what I mean)
What zoro and luffy means to be a hero LUFFY: I DONT WANT TO BE A HERO BECAUSE HERO SHARES THE MEAT IWANT TO EAT THEM ALL ZORO: I DONT WANT TO BE A HERO BECAUSE HERO SHARES THE BOOZE IWANT TO DRINK THEM ALL
jinbei is literally the only one in the Series that has a track record of making luffy listen and keeping him from either getting himself killed or doing something stupid. Luffy's lucky to have him now.
To most of the East Blue, Alabasta, Skypiea, Fishman Island, and Dressrosa, he is a hero. The Navy should just send him an invitation to join them for his heroic deeds and even offer him an admiral seat, just to poke fun at him.
Well, the tittle Hero can only be given by people. So when people call Luffy hero, or savior, he usually won’t admit it because his knows once he is tied to those labels he needs to fulfill other people’s expectations. So he wants to be a Pirate, not a Marine, and ignores Yonko’s politic games. Luffy do care about his friends, but he couldn’t care more about people’s expectations on him. Oda makes that really clear. The way SH crew bonds, too. Support, trust, and have no expectations, lol for health reasons. Just look at Law. 😂😂 Jimbei, at this part, is just coping that before he officially gets on the ship. 😂😂😂
I like that Luffy admired heroes like we saw with Sogeking, but has no intention or desire to actually be one. Every time he becomes a "hero", it is purely by coincidence.
if Momonosuke had asked him why didn't want to become a Hero, he would've become a Hero in Wano. But because Momonosuke is a kid and Kinemon is an idiot, they didn't ask for an explanation.
I think the vision of a hero that luffy has is limiting. In his vision, a police officer or a fireman who saves people wouldn't be heroes because it is their jobs, for example. He can still be considered a hero, though a more complex version of one.
That's not at all the vibe I'm getting from him. If anything, police officers and firemen are definitely heroes because they do the cool thing and save people, but lack the freedom he desires. Obviously it's not about the meat-- okay, it is, but the thought behind it is that Luffy can do what he wants.
Luffy may be selfish when it comes to his personal ambitions or items , but he will always help the innocent people who are suffering because of evil pirates or the celestial dragons.
What Luffy did hear was what pirates do he only agreed to save fishman Kingdom when jimbe offered him meat. Pirates don’t commit good deeds or save people out of kindness they’re free to do what they want to satisfy themselves
When looking at why Jinbe didn't want Luffy to face Hordy, I sometimes ask myself if he really had a good point. Because judging by how Hordy was already being viewed as a villain to his people, don't you think at this point, ANY human would have been the hero, even it was someone like the Celestial Dragons? The only thing that would have really made Jinbe right is if Hody & his crew planed to lose on purpose in front of the largest audience he can find, and trick everyone into feeling so sorry for them that they'll never want to befriend humans ever again, even if it's just to save themselves! But due to being so prideful, I can't guarantee that Hody would go for that kind of idea, even if it did have some usefulness! Anyway, these are just my thoughts and opinions, I just wanted to know what you think?
And people call this a terrible anime or overrated. When they really just wont admit that they dont have the patience to sit through 800 plus episodes as of today.
@@randomduck8679 that's not heroic. It's called being selfish. He is selfish not selfless like heroes. Fishman protection came because they are people that he cares about but not because it is morally right like heroes do.
Luffy would only make sacrifices to his crew or family but no one else. If there's a bad situation that happens on a nearby island, he couldn't care less about it unless it involves his friends.
Would this here be correct or wrong?: Luffy doesn’t see himself as a hero because it doesn’t align with who he is. He’s not about saving people for recognition or doing things because they’re morally “right.” Instead, he acts based on what he feels is true to himself. He’s a pirate, and for him, being a pirate means adventure, freedom, and living on his own terms. He doesn’t burn villages or hurt people without reason, but he’s not trying to be a symbol of justice either. He’ll help people if it’s personal to him, or if it fits with his goals, but he won’t call himself a hero because that title comes with expectations and rules-something he’d never want to follow. Luffy admires heroes, but being one doesn’t suit him. He’d rather do things his way, even if it looks selfish or reckless. That’s what makes him stand out-he’s not trying to save the world; he’s just living the way he wants while inspiring others to do the same. (Is fhis missing something or is it straight up wrong?)

He also has had moments when he chose to not fight and to resolve things peacefully like with Bellamy and in Drum island. Also, aren't there differences between shonen heroes and western heroes?
He’ll definitely not put up with the shit from Soul society or Hidden Leaf. He’ll go rogue almost immediately
Well, Anti Hero is title you may looking for Luffy
In his Core he is a good guy(wants freedom, saving people he cares/innocent), but not entirely(would be an absolute nightmare to the cook/sometime his ignorance can be annoying)
True. It just so happens that the Strawhats won't or haven't screwed over other good people for their goals.
This is exactly why in the Jaya arc Luffy doesn’t positively respond to Blackbeard even though the speech he gives is completely identical to Luffy’s philosophy… At face value.
Blackbeard and his crew are the dark reflection of the Straw Hats, willing to do the most heinous acts in order to achieve their goals.

luffy has never fought bc of pity which is what most heroes tend to do, stick up for the weak. when usopp was fighting for his life for his own island, that's when luffy fought with him, bc he showed he has courage and strength. luffy didn't wanna fight for momo until he also stepped up and showed some chivalry and only then luffy agreed to help.
sure some of the things he does is heroic, but he isn't a hero. just a dude who wants to do what he thinks is right.
I like how luffy told Momo to be a man that shit reminded me of myself with my little cousins lol
“i love heroes but i dont want to become one” idk why i found that cute lol xd
I think this scene right here along with the time Luffy stopped Usopp when he was asking about the One Piece explain everything a viewer needs to know about Luffy's character tbh
*the most heart touching speech by luffy*
Typically, he and the crew leave positive changes in their wake and save people from certain doom. Luffy isn't often driven to save someone for the sake of saving them; it's usually only if he feels he owes something to them or he sees someone he likes being treated unfairly that he takes action so I wouldn’t possibly call him a hero cause he’s more “both”

ルフィのこの単純さ好き
Funny thing is Luffy encompasses all the major aspects of a hero .
The only thing holding his simple mind back is him being too greedy to share his meat with anyone but luffy. Has shown that his is willing to starve for those that he calls friend.
To be fair we all know if Luffy saw someone starving to death on a sidewalk he’d (reluctantly) give them some of his food, like Goku he isn’t a Superhero that goes around looking for crimes to stop and people to help but if he just happens to be walking by when stuff like that is happening he’ll step in.

luffy's ideology laid out so simple anyone could get it yet it could be expanded on so much you could never explore it fully. I love oda man.
Luffy's logic....Is surprisingly flawless.

jinbei is literally the only one in the Series that has a track record of making luffy listen and keeping him from either getting himself killed or doing something stupid.
Welp for that the shishibukais exist but i think that his chance was gone after ennies lobby
I don't know how much money Doflamingo spent on trying to lure Luffy with the Mera Mera no mi when he could have just gone down to the kitchen.
True
I mean Luffy was already salivating at the prospect of high quality meat even before it was revealed what surprise Mingo had for him
Well, the tittle Hero can only be given by people.
Jimbei, at this part, is just coping that before he officially gets on the ship. 😂😂😂
I like that Luffy admired heroes like we saw with Sogeking, but has no intention or desire to actually be one. Every time he becomes a "hero", it is purely by coincidence.
Jinbei, the master of argumentation

don't lie Luffy. You're a hero to many by now!
1:45 that same "wakata" he said in the alabasta arc with Terracotta
I think the vision of a hero that luffy has is limiting. In his vision, a police officer or a fireman who saves people wouldn't be heroes because it is their jobs, for example. He can still be considered a hero, though a more complex version of one.
That's not at all the vibe I'm getting from him. If anything, police officers and firemen are definitely heroes because they do the cool thing and save people, but lack the freedom he desires. Obviously it's not about the meat-- okay, it is, but the thought behind it is that Luffy can do what he wants.

correction it's not in episode 544 as said in the description but episode 554 I just watched

Chopper's reaction everytime 😃😃
The issue in this conversation is that Jimbei is a hero.
Would this here be correct or wrong?:
Luffy doesn’t see himself as a hero because it doesn’t align with who he is.
