This is one of the cleverest tips I've seen in a long time, and I've been sewing for 60 years! Thank you so much. And don't worry about your English - it's VERY easy to understand you and your instructions are very clear.
I bought some ban roll, for trouser waistbands and I am amased at how quickly I learnt to make tiny hems. I gave home made handkerchieves to friends and they were surprised and wondered how the hem could be so small. Thank you.
You saved my life! This hack is genius and you should get an award! I needed to hem a dress in a hurry and couldn’t find Ban-rol interfacing in my area and ordering it online wouldn’t arrive in time so I went to JoAnn’s and found the next best thing. Dritz iron on mending tape has the stiffness needed and can fray like the Ban-rol interfacing. I gave it a try and it worked like a charm. Thank you for posting this video. Best tutorial out there for rolled hems! I won’t do it any other way now. Bless you, sweet woman, bless you!
And today, YOU are the lifesaver! At Joann's and they do not have ban-roll. They did not have the dritz you used, either, but based on your experience, I was able to choose something else to try.
@@han-guksarangvlogs4483 - Tiny rolled hems on thin fabrics, when done on a machine, can be tricky and when done by hand, can be tedious. This method appears to be a real game-changer.
@@lupebutterfly9161 I don’t know where you are but I got a roll from the internet that is 1” wide. I believe the width matters bc I’m old and it’s easier to hold onto. Also I applied it in a succession of 12-15 inch strips (the hem was easily 70 inches around). I think I got mine from Amazon before I realized you can buy 5’ strips from Etsy. Please try it on a similar fabric before you commit to the target item; just get an eighth of a yard of something close. I wish you the best of luck. It worked great for me. ☺️
I started sewing in the late 60's. We had a basic sewing machine, chalk, ruler and straight pins. That's about it. We made amazing clothes we thought lol. When the Pfaff 1222e came out with a built in walking foot in the 70's we thought we had it all. Us 3 girls plus mom fought over sewing machine time. Still sewing on same machine plus my Bernina 1230. Still making amazing clothes. You are never to old to learn new things.
This worked so well!!! I used it with a light polyester lining for a circular dress hem, and it looks very professional. Next up it'll be used again for the satin and organza layers on the same dress. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for coming back to tell me how it went! If possible, send me images please, I would like to publish them on my blog if you don't mind. My email is olga@ageberry.com
This is amazing. You are a true sewing genius. I love your videos. I am learning so much from you and I've been sewing 60 years. I wish I had known your tricks years ago.
Thank you very much! I can make a tutorial on how to sew the owl pincushion if you are interested. And also send me a message to this address olga@ageberry.com so I can send you the pattern by email because making a new tutorial will take some time.
This is genius! Everytime I've tried a rolled hem has been a disaster, so after the last one I swore off them forever, but this is making me think I'll have another go. Thank you very much!!
OMG! This is one of the coolest tricks I’ve seen! I was so impressed and excited after seeing this, that I had my husband watch the video, too.. he was equally impressed!
I'm no professional but this is a wonderful technique. I just paid way too much money for a sloppy hem, that I know I could have done better even with my little home sewing machine if I had just trusted myself. I will be redoing this hem on my own now with this new technique. Thank You!
Don't worry about not being a professional - what matters is the care and effort you put into your work. I'm confident that with this new technique, you'll achieve a hem that you're proud of. Best of luck with the redo, and you're very welcome! Thank you for giving it a try and for your kind words.
That is a great tip! I'm short so I always have to hem formal dresses. I avoid chiffon because it's a pain. Now I know how I can get a nice hem much easier! Thank you!
Just ordered some ban roll. I’m adding a slit in a chiffon dress and didn’t know how I was going to accomplish those tiny seams for my client. Thank you so much!
Another new fan here. I just watched your video on sewing a dart on sheer fabric with the bobbin thread only. I have been sewing 50 years and learned 2 new tricks in half an hour! In Afrikaans we have a saying, (well actually Dutch) Doe zo voort. My mum said it all the time. Now I am saying it to you. Do more, you are very good at it. My kind of videos, short, precise and to the point. no explaining why you could not make a video in a month because your dog/kid/husband poo'ed green (you get my drift).
Thank you very much for your feedback! I am happy to hear you liked my videos. I know what you mean about some UA-cam videos being not on point. I try to make something different, maybe not always successful but I am getting some experience. That's why comments are very useful to me.
Thank you! Definitely I must try it 🤍 Spent the whole afternoon frustrated trying to hem a chiffon scarf with no consistent result, changed needles, even borrowed a 3 mm hem presser foot with no luck.
You can do it! Let us know how it worked for you. I find this method easier than the rolled hem foot, especially for very narrow hems where the material gets out from the foot very easily.
Great video, thank you Ageberry. I found this tape (Banrol) in the UK at the English Couture Co. 85p per metre 25mm wide and £1.35 for 38mm. I'm ordering some today! Thanks again Ageberry!
Thank you! That's great you found the tape. I think the tape was more common in fabric stores 10 years ago and now it's kind of disappearing. Maybe people don't use it anymore that much.
Thank you! But it's not my technique, I didn't discover it myself. I learned this technique a few years ago at the PatternReview conference. I was so impressed by it that I made this video as soon as I came from the conference ( I just started my channel then).
What a beautiful technique ! ...I would like to make an improvisation of this technique, with different materials in case when ban-rol paper is not available to me. But, I also do not have my sewing machine available with me right now; so, I will daydream a few things what I could use instead. The technique you use is so perfect, and is a very helpful problem resolution. I will not be ruining my small silk investment I have in my "hope chest." 💓 Thank u ! 💓

Olga, I have not checked all of your videos yet. If not covered, would you please demonstrate how to best serge a narrow edge stitch or hem on delicate fabric (for neck scarves). I have a Brother 1034D.
Absolutely, I can certainly do this demonstration. The Brother 1034D is a great serger but I have to check if it’s good for this kind of work. Thanks for the suggestion!
Great idea. Would this work if I was using a stretchy knit fabric. Thank you so much for this video Olga. I really appreciate you! I desperately needed this to hem a dress for a wedding. It is way too long. I am worried because I have never done s hem like this before, neither I am an expert. Could you recommend a brand of roll ban and the width please? Thanks again for your kindness.
I'm so glad to hear that the video was helpful for you! You can find Ban-Rol on Amazon, here is my affiliate link - amzn.to/3Uai9gI. It's a bit harder to find it in fabric shops now. Check also wawak.com. I have a detailed tutorial on my site that can walk you through the process step by step. It's designed to help even those who haven't done a hem like this before - www.ageberry.com/narrow-hem-tutorial/. Take your time, practice on some scrap fabric if you can, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions. You've got this, and I'm sure the dress will turn out beautifully for the wedding. Good luck, and thank you for your kind words!
Thank You for sharing! I am struggling with the rolling foot too. May I ask what machine you are using, it was so Quiet! Mine is so loud, LOL. I have subscribed to your channel and will await other tutorials. I Especially like that you "get right to it" and not so much talking, I appreciate not having to waist 5 minutes with unnecessary banter (Often not on subject). Thank you this tutorial was well done.
Thank you for subscribing! I also don't like lots of talking at the beginning of a video. As for the sewing machine, I have Janome 6600 and I LOVE it. It sews equally well lightweight silk and real leather. But it's not the quietest machine on the market though even it's quite good in this regard. On the other hand, I don't really mind the noise, my serger is much noisier for example. I am publishing a new tutorial tomorrow "The mystery of a zippered pouch" (how to make a pouch without dented corners) so check it out if you are interested.

Thank you, Karen! I really appreciate your feedback.
It's a excellent tip for nice hem thank you somuch
Thank you!
Very noisy!! Love the tutorial nice close up unlike the other other I commented on
Thank you for making a task that I would never have even considered, into a possibility. And - where can I find one of those amazing owl pin cushions?
Glad it was helpful! The owl pincushion I made myself and the process is described here www.ageberry.com/owl-pincushion-pattern-free-2/
