I love Holbein indigo gouache and think you might too.
Also, love, love the colours of your cardi/jumper! ❤
Oh thank you! Will DEFINITELY try it and thanks for noticing the sweater 😁
I love the talens sketchbooks
They are great 😃
I love playing with those liquid watercolors when I have a lot of time. My favorite color is Alpine Rose.
Good choice!
Thanks Irit...awesome comparisons!!!!🤓..Janis
Glad it was helpful!
Yummy!!
Adore what you have done with your sketchbooks! Simply fabulous!❤️
Glad you like them!
Lovely swatches! I personally love Winsor and Newton and Daniel Smith Indigo watercolours. They are different enough to warrant having both, and are both more lightfast than PB66. I am also searching for a good Indigo gouache. I love the WN version, but it’s not that dark. I have ordered 'Blue/Black' from Holbein, but haven't been able to try it yet, so will see how it turns out. Thanks for the video! :)
Let me know if you like it! Thanks for sharing ☺️
I fell in love with Holbein indigo when I saw it next to a deep pink or magenta (talking watercolor here.) I wasn't even sure why it was dazzling me so much. Those two colors next two each other were gorgeous...each color seemed to make the other so beautiful! Then I checked the pigments of Holbein indigo:
PBk6-Lamp Black
PR122-Quinacridone Magenta
PB15-Phthalo Blue
Of course, that's why these colors looked so great together! The indigo had the lovely magenta pigment in it and for me, at least, makes for a fabulous indigo, especially when paired with other deep pinks and similar colors.
I'm sold! Will definitely try it 😁
thanks...for the pigment info and name...I am gonna check out Holbein Indigo...might even have a sample here at home....Janis
I was just comparing genuine indigos to the indigo hues this week! I think Daniel Smith has the best match and it's lightfast with good depth.
Thanks for sharing!! Good to know!
i have a A LOT of different dark indigo pencils, its perfect for shading pretty much everything that i draw 😀
Thanks for sharing 😊
Daniel Smith Sodalite -Great deep blue/black with great granulation.
Yes that's a great color! I used it a lot!
The Schminke watercolor Indigo 🌟
My Caran d’Ache Neo II is Night Blue.
I settled for High Flow acrylic called Indigo (PB 60) Indanthrone. My coloring pencil is deep indigo Inktense.
Among the Ultramarines the gouache does look rich.
Surprise supply for sketchy lines: I dug out my basic set of Prismacolor Art Stix🙂💕🎨
Thanks for sharing! Sounds like great picks, I love the golden high flow paints, will definitely check that out 😁
Hullo Irit, I am wondering if you have tried any of the choices for YlnMn Blues? In watercolor or any other mediums? You live in Austria so getting Schminke brand products, right? I have purchased a set of 10 colors of Schminke Akademie gouache I the 60ml tubes. I know that they have 30 colors in the range but they simply are not sold here in the US! What do you think about the Akademie gouache? I see that you have used the horadam gouache is is just more available? I have not got the Horadam as it is tremendously expensive here! I got the 10 tubes for $50.00 and this is a great price for 60ml tubes! Thank you for sharing your favorites with us. I am looking forward to seeing more examples of your creations. See ya next video!
Hi! I haven't tried their Akademie Gouache, i think they only sell them here in sets but next time I'm at the art store I'll take a look! Yes Schmincke is probably the most widely available watercolor and other mediums brand here, Germany is right next door 😃 I haven't hear of YinMn Blue at all, worth checking out?
i started with W&N Indigo and it is still a favorite dark blue gouache (PB15.1/PBk6/PB29) and don't mind Schmincke's PB60 Dark Blue Indigo gouache. Shin Han's Indigo gouache and watercolor is pretty and inky blue but use the fugitive synthetic, PB66 pigment.(NB1 is the plant derived indigo (fugitive) and you might just want to try it in the Schmincke Natural's watercolor line but its a little light; Maimeri Blu has a better version) I have yet to try Daniel Smith Indanthrone gouache. For Indigo watercolor, I like Jackson's (PB15.1/PB60/PBk7) as well as Daniel Smith or Roman Szmal's which are both PB60/PBk6. Roman Szmal's Indigo Hue is really my favorite indigo watercolor! Also agree on Caran D'ache indigo pencils and neocolor ii as well as Faber Castell Albrecht Durer marker and Pitt marker! You might like the Navy Blue Posca marker. I just got it.
Thanks for sharing! I will definitely check out a couple of your faves!
Also for all you deep blue & indigo fans...if anyone is interested in seeing artwork (semi-realistic/traditional simple landscapes) that often uses beautiful ranges of deep blues and grays, with the occasional pops of other colors, you may want to check out UK artist Natasha Newton's YT channel. I haven't watched her in a while (admittedly 🙄) but the last time I tuned in I think she's was beginning to broaden her palette a bit.
Yes she is great! Very moody colors
My favorite watercolor indigos are Da Vinci's Indigo (PB27, PV19), and Maimeri Blu's indigo (NB1). My pencil is Dark Indigo Luminance, and I don't have a favorite in acrylic or gouache. But you might really like Maimeri Blu's indigo, although it's not lightfast (and Da Vinci's is only rated "Good" due to the PB27). Maimeri will also probably be easier to get ahold of, as it's Italian. Da Vinci is still a really USA focused brand, and I don't believe Jackson's has it. It would cost an arm and a leg to ship from California.
Thanks for the info! Great picks 👍
Not Indigo but Rosa Gallery has a dark (granulating) greyish blue called *Indanthrene Grey* (PB 60).
Interesting! Thanks for sharing ☺️
The Schmincke Horadam Gouache has PB60 as a single Pigment. It called dark blue indigo. I saw you got the designers gouache indigo witch has not this pigment. Hope it helps. I am also on the hunt for good indigo gouache. The Schmincke Horadam Gouache is my favorite thus far. The Designers Gouache one from Schmincke is not my favorite.
Thank you 😊 you're not the first person to mention it, will definitely try it!
ya...most "DESIGNER" SERIES...have non-lightfast pigments...due to the printable factor of many design gouache artists...digital...where lightfastness is irrelevant.
labelling/colour names...could be helpful, as the last three ultramarines...not sure what is what...and they are not labelled and you never referred back to the brand/name. thanks Janis
Left to right - Daniel smith ultramarine gouache, Da Vinci ultramarine red shade and Schmincke French ultramarine
