Ahhhhh, Beethoven's 3rd piano concerto is beyond this world. It is musically so pleasant (but melancholic) that one wants to listen to it again and again. I love Seongjin's rendition, somehow I get addicted to his interpretative style. I listen to his repertoire EVERYDAY without fail, honest. The second movement is magical, - you have the cello telling a story of melancholy at 18.25, then joined in by the violin at 1833, the flute at 1844, the piano comes in at 1903, to be joined in again by the violin at 1922 and cello at 2310. The dialogue between the different musical instruments is like a mature person relating a story of love (lost) or (to be expected) ups and downs of life (remember the struggle in The Old Man and the Sea?). Precisely because it is life's ups and downs, one is drawn to it repeatedly, - we all go through them. Interestingly there is no disjoint among the 3 movements - it flows from the 1st to the 2nd and then to the 3rd - smooth and natural. Beethoven is a genius, Seongjin is another one. I emphasise that I am an amateur and an amateur's heart is deeply touched. You can't NOT be touched.

This is my favorite rendition of Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3. I especially love the part in the 1st movement where the orchestra rejoins Seong-Jin Cho after his fantastic playing of the cadenza! Thanks for this video, WDR Sinfonieorchester! Vielen Dank from the US.

By his interpretation, gestures and facial expressions it seems that he is emulating Zimerman's 1989 performance with Bernstein. I feel Seong-Jin Cho has done it perfectly with a touch of his own magic. How wonderful!!!

@@shupingwang3392I’m agree with your opinion. I think that he plays perhaps as W. Kempff. and not as Zimmerman. But you are right. He has the personal playing and don’t copies anybody. (Sorry for my bad English).

Ausgezeichnet!

Musicians these days make a lot of unnecessary/inefficient movement for no reason. The sound (dynamic) and the quality of the sound (timbre) they produce do not match their movement. eg if the player is going to make a huge movement leading up to the peak of a phrase or entering with a new phrase, a loud (full) sound is expected. But that is not really the case nowadays.
