I play it depending on what my team needs at a specific time. If it calls for a ballsy BB play, Alaska can do that. If it calls for me to delete an offending cruiser, I can do that. If situation calls for me to hide behind an island and sling HE, Alaska can do that easily. If situation calls for a radar ship to flush out a pesky DD, Alaska can also do that
@@christopherwilson6724 As itself, Alaska's rate of fire surelly let a good DD to slip from destruction....... ... but she can "dive" into position to help another ship, radar, and drive someone else too shooting at the DD
One thing I would add, if you have one of the captain with enhanced expert loader, definitely recommend to use that captain on Alaska. In my opinion , I found this enhanced skill very useful on that ship.
Great video Chase. The Alaska to me is the pinnacle of the jack of all trades, master of none class. This always made her a bit confusing on how best to play her because she can fit most rolls if she has to. This video made it more clear on how best to fight with her.
That was a potatoe sinop driver. I literally never show my broadside to anyone in my sinop even if I have to play in reverse. Almost indestructible and rack up 100k games on average
She's a fantastic ship, i don't regret dropping the million free XP on her at all. The dispersion on the guns is usually great, and the penetration is enough that BBs have to respect it, and the radar duration is long enough for DDs to have to keep their distance. Ultimately this means what she's best at is area denial. She can harry any target at most any range, and can punish mistakes hard, especially from enemy cruisers.
Battle Cruisers are a fun way to play. I love the Kongo and Moskva. Just have to acknowledge their strengths and weakness and work with it. "Know how to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to slow down, and know when to full steam away!
The one thing I've been seeing in game is a lot of new and returning players. They're grabbing high tier ships just because but have no idea how to play them. Hopefully these videos will help them, which helps us all. +1
Great vid chase as always! Just wondering if you could maybe add a section in these guides dedicated to key weaknesses and how to exploit them. I think it would be useful to have a section for people who don't have the ship but have trouble against them.
Great suggestion. In the case of the Alaska, she will generally lose long-range HE duels, as her DPM is poor. A DM, for instance, will beat an Alaska 100% of the time, in a bow-tanking situation. Her nose is also overmatched by most BB AP she faces. Don't try to go for her citadel, as you'll never find it, just do pen damage and you'll chunk her down fast enough. No icebreaker bow, either, so no worries about bouncing shots to her nose, unlike Russian supercruisers.
@@rexstuff4655 "A DM, for instance, will beat an Alaska 100% of the time, in a bow-tanking situation." + Desmo beats every single ship in the game which is not able to overmatch her nose in a bowtanking matchup where she can dictate her own engage and is in her comfort zone. Thats one of many reasons why range module on desmo is kinda questionable even if it works.
Ok dammit ! Today especially with this kind of video we deserved “ this is your instructor Chase” who used to be a teacher and if you don’t pay attention I’m rapping your knuckles ! Awesome video as always ! Last but not least AK AP rocks anything as long as it’s plunging fire !
One thing about the Alaska, the win rate. I wonder what the average win rate is for the ship. For me it is higher than most other ships in the mid 60's and that is with a now 11 point captain.
Well... I've got some problems with her recently - 've got citadelled fron bow in from 15 км by Grosser Kurfurst. That was come kind of a shock to me. But still she's well armored.
Love these tutorial type videos, really helped me. Wish there were more.of these for other ships and classes that also covered recommended build/captain skills. Struggling in Georgia for example
Chase, i'm having a lot of fun in my Alaska. One question: How come i receive soooooo much hate from players for playing the way described in this video. I'm not getting shot at much, i'm doing 100k dmg on average, a few kills. I position correctly to maximize the amount of dmg and annoyance i can do, I radar DD's and hiding cruisers, i shoot down lots of planes. lol why all the hate.
wow, so cruisers can cap too? KS on the Improbable, the Ibuki and the NC ? Hmmm, you must be streaming? Thanks for the play crayon, Coach iChase. waiting to see the Anchorage play soon? and the KS just keeps on coming!

Great tutorial, as usual. A question by the way, what's the software you're using to draw live annotations? It's something I can really use in my workflow. Thanks.
Sorry but this wasn't a good replay to use for this ship when giving tips. It needs a t9 replay to really give a guide to how alaska works. You get t7 mm rarely and even if you do the amount of t7 is negligable.
In other word, Alaska is jack of all trade and master of none. Good in every situation but not also the best at it either. Tbh Alaska is the best and my favorite out out of all the super cruiser

congrats! In my oppinion she's one of the strongest T9 cruisers. And the most fun to play. About a half fo a year after I got her I didn't want to play any other ship in the game.
After playing some games with Yoshino and looking at Alaska... Yoshino has better range, slightly better RoF and of course better HE dmg per shot + torpedos. But that's all and it is 1 tier higher than Alaska. Alaska has better AA, radar, AP dmg and armor. Yoshino with its pathetic 25mm bow cannot even stand against 381mm guns... Oh well. :D
You're still my favorite WoWstuber, iChase! ~-~⁰(^v ^)⁰v~-~ I really enjoyed that battle where you used Der GroBe! Btw, what buffs do you think California needs? I'd say main battery reload comparable to KGV's at about 28s (accounting for +2 guns) and if possible, better armor scheme and torpedo protection (Colorado has 2% higher TP, makes no sense)
I disagree the use of AP from iChase. Dont always aim for upper belt of BB, sometimes u could try waterline citadel shot of BBs. I have Citadel Vladivostok, NC, Iowa, Musashi at 17km with AP. Alaska's AP is ridiculous.
Alaska. I'd say she's the best premium ship in the game, period, because she's so damn versatile and can handle almost every situation. Friesland is a very one dimensional ship, you can't do anything other than spam HE from smoke and occasionally kill a DD with hydro, but I found it to be very boring.
@@nikoolix best premium ship i think it's debatable, if you talk about doubloons/money ships, then i think Massa and Georgia are solid competition, if just premium, then perhaps stalingrad or smolensk

You can't. WG only allows that when they announce server transfers(when they allow players to move accounts to different servers). The last time they did that was when they allowed a server transfer between ASIA and NA last year. Not many people believe WG will do another one.
I got mine tonight after several weeks of grinding. I always wondered whether it would be as good as I'd heard. Bare in mind the only cruisers I have played are British and German. Yeah, you just have to love the games where you get 170-180k damage and your team absolutely throws it despite your best effort to carry.
basically you play a "Large Cruiser" as what the USN intended
and as what was actually built. She's just absolutely amazing, and I bought her as I saw her
Clap Japanese Cruisers. Swat Aircraft. Radar everything.
