- She-Hulk season 2 was seemingly being planned just last week, now Disney has reportedly cancelled She-Hulk and removed She-Hulk from the MCU entirely. Marvel has been in an absolute mess since the release of The Marvels but now things have gotten worse for Disney and Marvel, as they are cancelling MCU projects as a result of Disney Marvel losing hundreds of millions in the last year, if not billions. This is a step in the right direction for Disney Marvel however it may be too little too late.

The problem is that "based on" seems like they just heard the basic plot summary of the run and figured they could just wing it because they had a diverse enough writing crew to make magic happen. I'm going to give Disney 100% of the credit for their success. That also means I'm going to give them 100% of the blame for their failures. They have no one to blame but themselves.
They don't deserve 100% for the MCU success. The MCU was already rolling when they bought them. However, they do deserve a lot of blame for their failures. They instilled the wrong culture within the MCU which started impacting the product after phase 3. They started pushing their agendas and took focus away from the story and the core audience. They took alot of power away from directors and created a panel of execs for creative decisions. They also pushed Feige to create a bunch of content that diluted the product. The primary blame that I put on Feige is his overambitious focus on the multiverse. It was just too convoluted.
Too bad they're simply too delusional to understand that.
@@awesomeblossom2417 too true...all of it...Phase 3 ended with 9 movies in 2019 alone that hit over a billion at the box office (not even counting internationally), and only a few movies were eked out that had any real success.
Their agendas are destroying Marvel/Disney consumer confidence, movie crews were either fired or quit, the writer's strikes (self explanatory), and the multiverse (which is a good premise for films IF handled correctly) structure they are...erm, "building," is unravelling faster than Mr. Incredible and has been oversaturating the market outside of these two companies.
Simply put, supply and demand works like this (just a reminder): when supply (movies) goes down (in this case, the few movies that used to be made), demand goes up ("Hey, we want more!"). But, after supply goes up (TOO many movies being produced), demand goes down...the BIGGEST thing missing here: QUALITY.
So then, as their supply used to be low, the quality of the films (those great movies) was massive...moviegoers were craving more from them, so they decided to deliver...but MORE quality was being exchanged for supply.
Ok...I"m going to go and rethink my life's choices now...lol!

I was bewildered thinking how can this be in any way related to the excellent 2008 Incredible Hulk? I know the film back then had it's issues too but at least it was decent. This stuff is just a chore to watch at this point and none of it is funny anymore.

I feel the same way about Alison Brie not being cast as She Hulk, as she's one of my favorite comedic actresses and She Hulk is my favorite female Marvel character. I'm now starting to think she was offered the part and turned it down and knew what a shitshow this TV series was going to be. _"'She-Hulk then proceeds to start twerking with Megan Thee Stallion in her office. As for Emma Fuhrmann, she got fired for two reason. 1, not famous enough, and 2, too tall (she's 5'9", an inch taller than Paul Rudd.) Yes, seriously. But Emma Fuhrmann walked out smelling like roses while Kathryn Newton is known for being the second worst thing about Ant-Man Quantumania (at least not as bad as Kang, though.)
The crazy thing is, they don’t have to write the stories the stories are already written just follow the comic books. The problem is, there’s not enough people who actually care about staying true to the comics and they want to just change stuff up like they’re better than Stan Lee they’re not.
When I was a retail manager, my district manager would show up at least once a month to go over our current sales reports to compare them to last year’s sales, and I had to explain across dozens of categories why sales were either up or down even if it was just a percentage or two. Then, I had to make action plans to explain what I was going to do to get the numbers up. It’s weird how apparently none of these things are being done at Disney.

I feel bad for the She Hulk actress... the real problem was the writing. Her acting seemed legit. Couldnt be mad at her.
Watch Orphan Black and you'll see how good Ms Maslany really is, playing 10 clones with their own accents and speech patterns. She is really versatile actor and will play to the best that the writing has to offer, provided the writing has some quality because management isn't shoehorning in the latest social media advanced cause.
Unfortunately, this is the problem with fans especially on social media. They cannot think for themselves and so many fans will blame the actress or actor for a role they do and say they suck when it's the Marvel writing and storytelling that has failed fans. It's not to say that an actor should never take accountability for their performance, but with the structure and formula of these Marvel movies, there are many times where Marvel feels like they can do no wrong because they've done so well. And that is not true. Unfortunately, Maslany was attached to a poor product but she'll continue acting and do well elsewhere. Marvel has been severely humbled as of late, which is why all these changes are being made going into their new saga.
She Hulk had fantastic potential.
Until Disney decided to ruin it completely for everyone.

I'm a huge Star Wars fan. I can't stand how they gutted George Lucas' vision and decades of stories to create flashy garbage. I have major issues with Disney-owned ESPN, too. I will never forgive Disney for what they've done to Star Wars and college football. Never. I don't think I've watched a Marvel movie since Endgame.

This is why they constantly over-inflate their budgets and overstate their purchases of intellectual property. however, with current interest rates, they can no longer 'borrow against zero', (which is the cheat code they have been using for decades). Meanwhile, in this climate, Comcast is enforcing a series of cash payments against Disney which Disney cannot possibly pay. Disney will now go begging to governments, large banks, other corporations, Comcast itself, billionare investors, and so on. However, all those entities are strapped for cash as well, and so, even if they are philosophically aligned with Disney, they cannot bail out Disney. Not this time. And so, there is small chance the Janet Yellen's of the world will be hobbled and Disney will fall. This would be amazing because it might disuade others from following the Disney model. Always remember, the Disney's of the world do not believe in capitalism, do not belive in selling products or services, do not even believe in the consumer model. Assuming they were capable of honesty, talking to them would be like talking to an alien. You would have no source of common reference or common experience. They think that 'content' is a long term hedge against tax, and their goal is to overstate the value of content, then shelve the content before it can be more realistically valued. Your notion of 'consumers voting with their dollars' (while valid to me) can never be valid to them, because, even if they understood your premise (which they would not) they would never, ever agree to adhere to such a model. they would rather 'run the game' the way they see fit and crash into a cliff. This is why it is called 'golden parachutes' when execs are rewarded for destroying their own industries. It is because they crashed on purpose while following the group-think of their ilk.

As a woman myself, I was a huge Marvel fan. I remember how excited I and my family was in anticipation of the next Marvel movie, usually going at the first showing. My personal favorites were Thor Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy 1, Black Panther, Winter Soldier and the Infinity War/End Game. I realize End Game was the last time I saw a movie in a theater. I could care less about a character’s race or gender, give me a story worth watching, a character with dimension and growth, and give me quality over quantity. I haven’t seen more than half of what they’ve put out since End Game because it became a chore to try to keep up. With the ones I did see, they were awful, just okay, or at best was good but didn’t rally any of that excitement I once had. Even with Spider-Man 3, I was draw in, but I hated the ending and it felt unnecessary. Wandavision I loved the initial premise, it sucked me in as we theorized what was going on, but I felt it fizzled out by the end. I don’t know if it’s a creative bankruptcy or that they’re not allowing the writers enough time to flesh out their ideas, I suspect more of the latter as they tried to bulk up their Disney+ offerings.
Compared to Secret Invasion disaster, She-Hulk’s writing was like Suits.

Big mistake. Instead of not using a bad character take steps in making them a better character. Look at Ahsoka; she wasn't particularly good in the first couple seasons of the Clone Wars, and then in the later seasons she was one of the most well-written characters in Star Wars. Same with Darth Maul, same with Thor in the MCU (Pre-Endgame, that is) and so many more that I can't think of off the top of my head
The character is not the problem, the writers are the problem. No matter what character Marvel introduces, if the story is well-written and the character development is well-thought-out, it will work out fine. They just need to tell a great story, not a hodge podge of CGI scenes that don't make sense.
In this era where Marvel movies have diminished in quality, a few well-written movies have fared well at the box office. Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is one example. James Gunn's development of Rocket's character is told with masterful exposition and sincerity that the audience identifies with. Suddenly, Rocket is not just a wise-cracking loud-mouthed raccoon, but a loyal and sympathetic friend as well. But Disney gave James Gunn the boot and is now out to rival DC. Spiderman Man No Way Home is another good movie.
We really miss Stan Lee. The early Marvel movies were so relatable and grounded because Stan guided the writers and directors on how to tell a great story. When Stan died, Marvel became a lifeless, money-making venture that lost its soul.
What Disney needs now is to hire competent writers and directors. They can also hire internet specialists who can crawl the internet, get audience feedback, and summarize these using AI. From this, they can hold writer meetings and develop a story while determining what agendas to avoid based on the feedback.
We absolutely need to demand apologies from these shitty media companies. Writing whatever they want to ruin whoever they want. Makes me sick to my core

She read the script and accepted it. She saw everything before we did written for her directly on paper and chose to star in it. I’ll agree that she doesn’t deserve ALL the blame but she took part in the creation of this garbage.

She might NOT have read the script actually. In an interview Adam Driver talked about how he was cast for the role of Kylo Ren. He didnt take the part immediately because he wanted to make sure it would be good, but he wasn't allowed to read the script. So he basically had a discussion with the director that gave him a broad strokes arc for his character. Kylo Ren was supposed to be the opposite of Darth Vaders - who started at his most powerful and most committed to the dark side, and then became vulnerable and torn. Kylo Ren was supposed to start out vulnerable and torn and wind up as the most powerful, most committed to the dark side version of himself. So that was the arc that made Adam Driver accept the role and the idea he kept in mind while acting, even though they wound up changing that whole thing.
But most importantly, he had to agree to the role and sign the contract and everything before they allowed him to read the script. Which was in a 'tiny room' and he had to leave it there after reading. He was fully locked in by the time he saw what he was actually dealing with.
Granted, Star Wars is a MASSIVE IP compared to She-Hulk so the hush hush and secrecy might not be standard practice. But Disney made both these things, so it's entirely possible that they have other actors and actresses signing contracts and getting locked into roles before they've read the scripts.
I take it easy on actors and actresses, because you really have no idea how much they understood about the role they'd be playing. But I also give mad props to actresses like... uh... shoot, I forget her name. The chick who played Wednesday. She straight up refused to say certain lines or let her character be taken in certain directions because she was so passionate about her role, and she improved the show she was in as a result.
Sometimes actors are just there for a paycheck, sometimes they really care, sometimes they're just as woke and cringe as the scripts they're in, but ultimately it's the script writers and the directors who have responsibility.
Disney has a despicable corporate mindset, blaming an actress for their idiocy. It's not actors fault is their fault.

There was a time in Marvel where She-Hulk was in my top 10 favorite hero, then Marvel decided to create those insufferable characters. I love the "Hulks" storyline, the villains the years of wondering who is the Red Hulk, how all come together in on epic showdown in Word War Hulks, Skarr, etc. They used to cared about those characters and their fans.
The fans are the customer . That’s what they seem to have forgotten.. how long are you gonna go to a restaurant that gives you whatever they feel like giving you? To be fair, Hollywood hasn't cared about the everyday people for a long time. They have so much money and live so high up in their ivory towers, they can't even imagine what the everyday person thinks of, despite having 24/7 access to social media. These are the same people to sing "Imagine" during COVID and whine about not getting paid $10,000 a week in residuals during the strikes. In my opinion, seeing how good the she-hulk actress actually looked through images and interviews, they could've done a good job keeping to the comic. She wasn't a boring or unattractive, she looked good, loved her family, and had a somewhat fun and bubbly personality.

Also the studios have the final say on all creative decision so to my understanding a lot of these projects are doing rewrite after rewrite to satisfy what the studio wants. The flash went through this with directors and scripts changing left and write because the studio wouldn’t trust in the people they hire. So from directors and writers perspective I kinda get it.

First I said I understand the actors wanting to strike. Actors put a lot of work into their craft .its not easy acting in the freezing cold jumping in water cause its suppose to look hot, thats just one example..
The writers on the other hand just have to write . You wanna blame the studios for making changes. Thats because the scripts suck . And a good script, a few changes won't hurt the movie..fact is they are writing bad scripts. Not every write of course. But the majority of the main stream studios. I jist used disney as an example cause they admitted their woke narrative lost then a lot of money..but these writes have a good job and I'm sure they aren't getting paid peanuts..another fact is other then the rare gem most of the stuff coming out is woke garbage .there are plenty of hungry writer that would be happy to have the job writing for a big studio. And if the writers proved their worth im sure they would be well compensated. .you don't like how the streaming companies pay don't work for them. My favorite part is the media coverage is proclaiming “superhero fatigue” to explain why the fanbase has abandoned the franchise. Couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve wanted these characters on the silver screen since the 80’s, back when Mel Gibson could have been the best pick for Wolverine. I’ve been hungering for these stories to be told and taken seriously to show the world how good this stuff can be. When the MCU started disregarding the fanbase (NOT the other way around) I started to viscerally hate the direction they were going. Now I’m at the point where I want to see how bad it fails. Fuck this kangaroo court and let it burn. HOPEFULLY, 20 years from now I’ll be taking my grandchildren to see the X-men movie they should’ve made in the first place. I won’t hold my breath.

There is some level of fatigue. Outside of individuals who were a real fans of comics, the normal movie goer who don't know much, if anything about comics, still know the mainstays, CAP, Ironman, Hulk, Thor, etc. Other characters are not well known, and it was ok while Marvel movies were putting out quality content, but once there was such a deluge of stories, movies, and shows all intertwined, it became watered down and overkill. Add into that the politics and girl power nonsense, and that was all she wrote.

Fans love the animated versions. There's little consistency between her appearances depending on whether it's her show or a cameo like helping another team (e.g, the Fantastic 4) but is always likeable as she is strong. They'll never get a live action incarnation correct.

I agree with the stories you mentioned that were good. No Way Home, Loki, and Shang Chi. Shang Chi especially, because even though he was new, I actually was interested in seeing him as a character after the movie. Everything else was just garbage. I hated Love & Thunder the most, because they absolutely wasted the potential that Gorr had as a villain (and played by Christian Bale, too!). He was supposed to be so OP that it took /three/ Thors to kill him. Such wasted potential 😩 never even bothered with She-Hulk after I saw the trailer. You could just tell it was gonna be meh

She hulk is literally my favourite Marvel comic book character. They screwed up her origin story in the show and made her antagonistic towards her cousin Bruce, complete opposite of how she is in the comics.

I have a proposal for writing depth that I call the Heimerdinger test: Is there a character that has a viewpoint counter to a major pov character that is portrayed as well intentioned, reasonable, and intelligent. They can be wrong, in whole or in part, but there needs to be some pushback from someone who we aren’t supposed to hate.
