    The ship was old, top heavy, over loaded, and probably under powered. It didn't take high waves, just being in the water was enough to make it sink. This was a sinking that was guaranteed from the start.

    #175 Thanks to the Video Camera Man for filming! Another disaster at sea! I've wheeled ships on the Great Lakes with much larger wave action. The failure appears to be a overloaded vessel, top heavy, with a improperly secured load! I have no idea how much training that crew had to deal with that crisis. The Underwriters and Insurance Carriers will have to figure this out.

    • @vincent7520
      @vincent7520 5 років тому +2

      It seems to be quite windy and this may cause a good swell, if not "heavy".
      It is always very difficult to assess the state of weather and sea on a video or photo.
      But nothing a ship this size cannot handle… Certainly she was not fit : I don't see how a crew can provoke such listing ! LOL

    Given the almost leisurely pace of the listing and the seemingly calm Abandon Ship Evacuation, it is incomprehensible that there were any circumstances that would prevent a Crewman being unable to follow the Abandon Ship Order and make out safely to the Lifeboat!
    Why was there not a search made for that Crewman before the rest of the Crew, Officers and Captain Abandoned Ship?
    The stricken vessel was still afloat, albeit listing, when the rescue vessel loaded all those from the Lifeboat, and the boat itself.
    This just doesn't appear right, the stricken vessel does not appear to be in imminent danger of capsizing or sinking, and surely the vessel's pumps could cope with the water entering the ship due to the listing!
    Edited for typo!

    Think --- metacenter.

    • @johnfalstaff2270
      @johnfalstaff2270 5 років тому +2

      Exactly, but ship owners do not pay too much attention about safety of their crews/ships as long as their cargo/freight is delivered in time. This is to avoid heavy penalties and poor reputation as an unreliable supplier. Cargo ships are often overloaded and we do not realize that until a tragedy happens taking immediate top spot in world media.

    looks like her load shifted (at a minimum). if her starboard gunwale is under water, then her container well is taking on water. if that is true, then it's only a matter of time. those container ships are not much more than a hull surrounding a great big hole (the container hold goes below the waterline, the load you see on top is only about 2/3 of the total load)

    I spent years at sea 🌊 on fishing boats, in the North Atlantic. And this is not very rough at all, I am sure that this ship was badly laden, and then some of the cargo shifted. So this is all down to the captain, who obviously didn’t do his job properly.
    If it had been truly rough, then they would not have been able to get the sailors aboard...
