Great videos mate. I just starting renovating my lawn and laid new sapphire turf last week. I'm slowly watching all your vids. Keep up the great work. A+
Hey man, love your videos. I have just had my lawn returfed. It is 1 week old and growing well. Should a mulch the first cut or use a bag to collect the cuttings??
I was mulching my lawn clippings into the lawn as I heard it was good for feeding nutrition back into to it but I found over time it did increase the build up of thatch. Could you please explain why you don't think it add to the build up of thatch?
If you are mowing often enough it will not contribute to thatch. However, in spring the grass grows a lot faster and you might need to bag for a bit of the start of the growing season.
Excellent vid! Tips are right on the money. People give me crap for how "hard" I work to keep my lawn beautiful. I just laugh and tell them none of this is hard work. It's just about getting the details down (like sharpening your mower blades). It's the little things that take your lawn to the next level!
Thanks mate! Some people don't understand it takes a lot of work to look after grass. Even when people make comments about me working on a golfcourse, "you just mow grass all day don't you?" It's so much more involved! It's always fun and rewarding though putting effort into your lawn, cause you see the results!
Matt Hartup thanks mate! I have tall fescue at home. Works well where I live because we have quite heavy frosts and snow in winter and out summers aren’t too hot!
Nice vid just started getting into caring for my lawn and nice to find an Aussie on here, I do have a question that has got me completely stumped, is there a selective killer for paspalum, I'm in qld and it's taking over. Thanks for the video
Good stuff brother! I'm on my 'L' plates in the garden/lawn area. I agree with Ando... " Sweet as finally found a good Aussie dude for Aussie conditions" I've just subscribed, and hit the bell (ding, ding) so keep those videos coming brother. Blessings.
Hey mate, awesome videos. Got a couple of quick ones for you, or anyone else who reads my questions and has a good answer!! 1. Mulch mowing...do you alternate between cylinder mowing and mulch mowing to keep putting a bit of nutrients back into the lawn? 2. Birds. How the f*#k do you stop birds picking the grass seeds out of your rolled soil after you've seeded? Thanks mate.
Great tips. But being tips from an Aussie bloke for Aussie’s why do you use imperial measurements instead of metric ? The imperial system hasn’t been used in Australia since long before you and I were born. I know what 4 centimetres looks like but I haven’t a clue what 4 inches looks like.
Ben - Great channel keep up the good work. Question: At 8:19 you have a note in the video that says (just an exmaple of a product, not the best but still works), which begs the question, what is? Could you name some of what you think are the 'best' products?
I'm picking up a Toro Super Recycler on Wednesday! I can't wait to put that bad boy through it's paces! Great tips. Another great video (clean your shades, though 😎). G'day & YNWA
Hey, I have just completely dug up and levelled my backyard. I live on the Mornington Peninsula and my soil is fairly gritty, light grey loam over clay. What type of lawn would you recommend which would tolerate children and pet traffic?
Troy hey mate! That’s in Melbourne right? If you have pets either kikuyu or couch but they do go brown in the winter. Otherwise I would recommend tall fescue. Goes really well in Melbourne. I know quite a few people that have tall fescue in Melbourne and they love it. Will be alright with Pets. Will get general wear and tear but any grass will. Only thing is it’s not self-repairing.
Amy Gray thanks! Personally I would go toro, only because they mow taller. But Honda is just as good! Plus they have more reliable engines etc. Really comes down to personal preference.
But he mows his lawn every other day to maintain the 1/3 third rule plus amount of fertiliser etc he puts down. Lawn at 3 inches is easier to maintain.
Lawn Tips haha. You don’t have enough views for the quality of information you give out. Thanks brother, Just found your channel. My lawn is shagged and your advice should help me fix it.
Yo mate, what up. I'm really liking your vids, they're really well done, keep it up. Got a question about tips 3 & 4. If you're using a pre emergent twice a year (spring and autumn), when do you suggest to do a lawn renovation? Do ya kind of have to bite the bullet with the weeds and just skip a pre emergent dose somewhere or is there something I'm missing? Cheers mate.
Hey mate, thanks! So if you are planning to do a Reno, you skip that round of pre-emergent. If you aren’t seeding and just doing a Reno with a core, scarify and top dress you can still apply pre-emergent. But yeah as you say you have to bite the bullet with the weeds and attack them later!
Legend, thanks for the clarification. So if you had a lawn that was a bit of a bitza (60% kikuyu, 20% rye and 20% summer grass / crows foot / winter grass / other crap) how would you propose to tackle it? I was thinking Barricade in autumn to suppress the winter grass, barricade in spring to suppress the summer grass and see if the kikuyu can thicken up a bit more? I would like to oversow some kikuyu into the areas where it hasn't made it to yet, but i don't know if I should do this before or after tackling the weeds... I also imagine I would have to do this in spring to give it the whole warm season to establish? Thanks again for your time and effort mate, so much good info in your vids.
No worries! Yeah you would have to do an oversow in the spring so the kikuyu get a good chance to grow. Yeah barricade in autumn to get rid of the wintergrass, then I reckon do a renovation in spring and seed and don’t apply the barricade. If you get anything like summergrass you can hit it with other herbicides once the seed matures a bit. As for Rye you could spray that out as well! If you want to talk a bit more send me a message on Facebook and we can chat out a plan of attack 👍🏽
Lawn Tips I love Coutinho. When he is in form, our attack is so much more dynamic. I'd hate to lose him, But w/138 mill we might actually get a freakin defense! That should've been 4-0 today!
Hey champ, cheers for the tips! Subscribed! Im sure youve got a video out somewhere, But can you do a video on lawn care during summer without using excessive water??
i did most of these tips plus added a few of my own and i now dominate the street.
Robert Swift awesome mate! There is always more stuff to do, don’t think I even talked about fert in this video!
wow Ben - you have come a long way in equipment, property, production, your lawn and little helpers! 👌
Thanks mate! You found a nice old video haha
Sweet as finally found a good Aussie dude for Aussie conditions
Michael Anderson Thanks man! I was trying to find Aussie channels a while back and thought stuff it, might as well start one haha
A true Australian isn't scared of the magpies 🤣
Hey bro. You got any tips for maintaining an acreage? Like a big farm/old art gallery. Asking for a mate.

@@mikenotta7079 Thanks. I suppose youd have to mow like every week to not contribute clippings into thatch
True Aussie advice, thank you for putting this out there mate. Absolute champion

I think stripes on a lawn look terrible. That's why I use a husqvarna robotic lawnmower - Best thing for lawns.
Good video and tips. What type of grass do you have in your lawn?

Good tips, but you really need some trees and plants to cover up the neighbours. You literally have zero privacy.

I think I watch this video once a month just to remind myself what I’m doing wrong lol. Great video
Is it possible to use too much seasol on your lawn?
How do you tell whether the lawn needs to be mulched or bagged? I'm guessing the season and length of lawn would be some factors
Cheers 👍
it bloody summer here its hot and dry and the grass is almost as dead as my sex life looking for some good tips

Any tips on how to protect my lawn from racoons and squirrels? They have been pulling up my new sod and digging holes in my yard
We don't have raccoons and squirrels here in Godzone, dropbears and spiders ate them.
Hey mate. Good advice from someone dealing with our weather conditions.
Thanks mate 👌🏽
I use big words to make myself sound more Photosynthesis
Hey mate could you please do a vid for getting rid of nut grass the stuff is a pain
Very enjoyable video mate keep it up 🤙

jdrobbi haha! I noticed they were dirty as well once I started editing.
Yeah boi! You'll love it mate. Did you watch the game? Devastating.
Lawn Tips yeah...right call in the red card, though. Mane's got to be smarter than that. City will punish any team that's down a man.
+jdrobbi yeah pretty bad to go studs up near the keeper. Ah well hopefully next week haha
toro is no longer as good as they once use to be
Robert Swift still is good all the stuff I’ve used my friend. Especially the golf course equipment, way ahead of everyone else in their gear.
I unsubscribed the minute I saw that stripe kit on you mower.
What a man
Why do you talk in inches in Australia :s

Troy no worries mate. If you need anything else let me know
Great video! Would you choose between a Honda or toro mulching mower
Amy Gray thanks!
Personally I would go toro, only because they mow taller. But Honda is just as good! Plus they have more reliable engines etc. Really comes down to personal preference.
Did your toro work good could you give us anouther review please
I'm basically doing everything here except renovating the lawn and striping it. Still my lawn only looks slightly above average...it's so frustrating.
Lawn tips from the frontier
Now this... this is epic
Wait you say mowing to 3-4 inches is better while your lawn is down to 0.6 inches?
But he mows his lawn every other day to maintain the 1/3 third rule plus amount of fertiliser etc he puts down. Lawn at 3 inches is easier to maintain.
@@movingforward1981 can't even keep my lawn green at 1.5 inches and I'm putting in daily work. Man having healthy, short trimmed lawn is a long way.
awesome vids mate! Keep them coming!
