    Nice video! However, if I may make a recommendation, I would suggest that you keep the time you are holding the car back with the brakes VERY brief. So as soon as the RPMs max out at 2500, release the brake and let it go. Holding the brake and gas makes a TON of heat in the transmission VERY quickly because all the power the engine is making is going to heating the transmission fluid. The trans temp gauge may not show this because of the location of the temp sensor though, giving people a false sense of safety. It's not that bad if you release the brake as soon as the RPMs max out, but holding the brake and full throttle for more than a second can overheat the transmission. Anyways, just a suggestion :)

    • @averyalexander2303

      @@wes89 Actually, the torque converter is under the highest load possible generating a huge amount of heat when the engine is being run at full throttle while being held back by the brakes. From a dyno graph I found online, it looks like that engine can produce about 110 HP at the torque converter's ~2500 RPM stall speed and ALL of that power is going into heating the torque converter. To put it another way, that's like running about 55 1500 watt space heaters inside that little torque converter simultaneously! Definitely not something you want to do for very long.

    • @cameronharbrecht8427
      @cameronharbrecht8427 6 років тому +5

      No, it's a factory built in launch control. Go drive a WRX CVT. Unless your in S#, the ECU is telling the CVT to simulate gearing. I believe it's 6 "gears" in I mode, and 7 in S mode. Only in S# will you see the CVT preform like a straight CVT by maintaining optimal engine speed for acceleration.
      Like shown in the video, when he initiated launch control, the car held the optimal RPM for acceleration. Had he taken off from a stop normally, the car would have shifted it's way up the "Gears".

    • @nnr3
      @nnr3 6 років тому

      @@cameronharbrecht8427 Only in "I' mode you will see the real CVT. He was in "I" mode when he launhed it. It's 6 speed in S mode then 8 speed in S# mode.

    • @michaelk2533
      @michaelk2533 5 років тому +1

      @@nnr3 It's actually a CVT below 30% throttle in S mode as well as 40% in I mode. Below those throttles the transmission doesn't shift.

  • @KJF1977
    @KJF1977 4 роки тому

    Why wasn't it shifting after the launch? Was staying at 5.5 rpm at 80mph lol

    • @roge0
      @roge0 4 роки тому +2

      It's a CVT, there are no gears to shift between in order to accelerate. Normally, the CVT in the WRX is programmed to snap between prescribed ratios (so it seems more like a normal automatic) but that's not the case with launch control. Notice how it was glued at 5500 RPM the entire time between 35 MPH and 88 MPH, while this is happening the CVT is smoothly sweeping across the gear ratios as this is actually the most optimal way for the car to accelerate.

    • @uchinanchuu58
      @uchinanchuu58 3 роки тому +1

      5500rpm is maximum power. If the CVT constantly changes ratios to maintain maximum power no matter what speed you’re going, then you will always be accelerating as quickly as possible.

      The 6 speed is no better. I have a 2018 wrx with the 6 speed and it's fun. But the gearing is shit. So you're constantly shifting gears just to get up to city speed limits. If subaru kept the 5 speed for the wrx it would have been better. Not to mention the rev hang these cars get makes driving hell. There's are more times than not that i wish i got the CVT. The car is a lease anyway so it's not like i'm going to keep it. ANd i sure as hell not keeping my wrx. I can't wait until the lease is over. Good car, but not for me.

My son now owns my 14 manual so I still drive it every once in a long while. I like my CVT more...still. Planning on getting into the high 3's soon with stronger tq converter and E85. Plus a lot of other usual stuff I added. Tomayto, tomahto. For the price of a Limited STI someone could just buy a used Z51 which clocks in the 3's.
