SILVER! Today we're going to restore an antique Roman coin of Emperor Probus. Can I clean this ancient artifact and discover the secrets that lie beneath almost 2000 years of dirt?
Thanks mate, what a great way to start the Sunday!
You bet!
I came across this by accident..but I'm so glad I did...so impressed by the work you do...and the results are astonishing...
Good call by not applying Renaissance Wax inside your home. The product has some nasty chemicals in it. I always apply it outdoors, wearing disposable gloves. Nice cleaning job. Thanks for the idea of using a thorn.
Great tips!
Need more videos. Fun to watch!
Working on it! Thanks for watching!
Amazing work, Nick. Crazy that in relative time, it doesn't seem that long ago since ancient Rome. So much history has been lost, and we only get these little glimmers of what it was like back then. Can't wait to see more.
Couldn't agree more! Thanks so much for watching.
This is honestly love old coin restoration videos. They are very satisfying and also pretty entertaining. Love you channel and the work you do with those coins
Wow that coin came out very nice, you did a great job on it. My first Ancient I cleaned was a Crispus silver plated one as well, it was in much worse condition, it has already started to flake off but I will cherish it, it started me on the roads to coins, and coin conservation. I subbed and liked, cant wait for the next one.
Thanks so much! It's a slow road always with room for improvement. Cheers!
We was going detecting today, but it was too hot, and there's thunder about ,didn't fancy standing in a field with a metal detector lol ,thanks you've given me a Sunday fix🤘
The coolest youtube channel I've ever found
We missed you
Your videos are utterly satisfying! It’s like ASMR for the eyes!
Beautiful, perfect, educational... More videos please!
The Thorn is a great idea. very fine tip but still wood
Great video! I look forward to future uploads!!
Thanks! More to come!
Beautiful work. You have a quite an amazing collection.
Awesome vid! Keep doing this videos please!
This is so beautiful thank you!
Glad you like it!
Very cool skill to have! I guess it's one way to make sure you get a genuine example! Cheers🎉😊
Excited for the next video!
Great job on the coin. Silvered antoniniani require a ton of patience to clean right and you did fantastic. Kudos! For a final photo, I like direct sunlight.
I have cleaned one such coin. It's now my profile on UA-cam. It was scary stressful to clean mine. A common Aurelian but with great silvering.
You may consider getting a fiberglass brush, they can be fantastic cleaning tools for silver coins because they won't damage the silver ever. I use them up a lot because they make cleaning so much easier.
Did you find any rare coin in the filming set of the Mummy?
lol I wish!!!!
Another charming and fascinating video.
Glad you enjoyed it
had to subscribe, looking forward to more of these videos in the future
Thanks so much, new vid soon!
Love these videos!
Thanks! More to come!
Excellent work! Seeing that beautiful reverse get restored was awesome. It's one of my favourites because it conveys real power by the horses bursting from the coins centre, almost like the sunrise that Sol is responsible for.
Perhaps I'm a bit odd, but I would appreciate some slower cleaning clips too, I find it very satisfying/relaxing, particularly when the lettering gets done haha.
Thank you very much! And good suggestion!
Excelente limpieza.
Good afternoon, your channel is very interesting, sorry for the inconvenience, it would be so kind of you to tell me the name of the book or author, where the images appear, thank you very much.
It would be great if you could show what tools you use
Growing ancient watching.
Would you be willing to do a Q+A style video explaining some of the equipment you use and showing the equipment as well as explaining how you find these coins and maybe how you find reputable sites? I'd love to try cleaning some coins myself! I've collected a few but the latest one I bought had scratch marks that I've now learned were likely from a rushed cleaner than from actual ancient use. Thanks!
Great ideas! I will try to make something like this!
Your videos are mesmerizing to watch. What music do you use?
What type of thorn is that?
I'm thinking about getting into cleaning ancient coins and was wondering if you had any suggestions on tools/ good brands to purchase from?
Hey there
Which tools do you use, and microscope?:)
Amazing work! where do you get your coins and tools?
Thanks for a nice video! A question, where do you buy the wax? /Henrik
May I ask, why not use an ultrasonic cleaner?
your content is deity-tier my dude. I've subscribed and I've watched every single one of your videos. Do you think you'll be able to share your recording setup? Seeing your videos made me want to get into coin restoration, so I bought all the supplies and I would love to document the projects the way you do.
Thanks dude! I hope your restoration journey has been rewarding so far! Take your time!
what tool do you use in cleaning coins?
I have recently purchased a Severina silvered coin. Could you recommend a tool/link to a tool that would work well for cleaning? I'm currently only using dental picks and bamboo sticks, but the risk of scratching is pretty high with the picks and don't want to risk it with this specimen. Cheers
I really hope you get to do more of this. I'm 1 minute in, and can already tell that i love this.
haha amazing! working on some new videos currently
What is the name of the scratcher? Or what it is?
Would putting these in an ultrasonic cleaner remove the dirt and still leave the patina?
Only if you are very experienced in US cleaning, which i am not. Usually ultrasonics destroy the patina.
If you could just clean the silver with a little vinegar and salt bath it would take off all the rust and would give it a more shiny and appeal able look which could have given more details...would it damage the coin in any way?
Yeah, acid destroys the outside of the coin, and removes the patina
Please watch baumgartner restorations, he restores art, gives information on what and how he does something just like you.. 👍🏼 keep it up
How many hours to clean one coin?
i'd say anywhere from 4-24 hours depending on the coin and how involved it is.
Did he give up on yt? It's a shame, I liked these videos.
Nope! Just busy, new video dropping soon!
Skoooooo
You really look like this guy named nick from an other youtube channel Corridor Digital. Have you heard of them?
hmmmm never heard of him
Who else got here from the Corridor Cast Podcast???
Where do you get your cleaning tools from? What would be the basic tools a beginner should use? Thanks in advance.
lavoro eccelente: "Cosa vi è di scientifico in questo modo di fare!!!"...Saluti da mio canal "Coins Italia"...grazie
