What does Dr. Unnikrishnan mean by Kavi being a “typical Tulu, Malnaad area art”? He is clearly mistaken. Kavi art originates from Goa and the Konkan coast and was brought to Uttara Canara region by Konkani immigrants from Goa fleeing Portuguese persecution. There are temples in Goa and Maharashtra Konkan side with Kavi as well due to the same reason. It is a Konkan art form. Not a Tulu/malnad art form.
I've always been fascinated and have clicked hundreds of photos of this beautiful Kavi art when I used to visit temples around Manipal. Kavi art is really eye pleasing and very precise form of art. Would like to gt in touch with artists who have been practising this artform. Pls pass on the leads if anybody knows artists who work on this artform. Would be happy to provide them a platform to revive this fading artform
