Hi there, thank you for sharing the breakdown of the new Mac mini. I currently have a MacBook Air M2. I have been using it for video editing and it seems to be slowing down alot as I progress into more complex work. Is the M4 Pro version with bumped up RAM and storage a no-brainer at this point? Would like your opinion on this please... thanks again!
As nice as it is to have a SD card slot not everyone shoots photos or video with a camera that uses them. In the professional space many of us now use Cfast express cards or some other similar fast bandwidth cards. So the SD card slot on my 14" MBP has not been used since I bought it. On the flip side most non camera users likely never touch a SD card. It's a nice to have but only really fits a need for a niche group. It's also not really that difficult to add a SD card reader or even multiple readers to offload multiple cards at once. Especially on a desktop where they can be tucked away and one doesn't need to worry about moving around with the computer.
@ agreed although internal storage matters much less to me in a desktop vs a laptop. Since desktops just sit there one can easily add external storage that’s a lot cheaper and likely fast enough to store photos, documents and music.
Thanks for the video. I believe another flaw, you forgot to mention that the Mac studio has on the back are two USB-A slots. I think even if you bumped up to the M4 pro Mac mini, it still wouldn’t beat out even the M1 max studio for all it has. Just take a look at the 24 courses that the studio gives you and I think you can only get 20 cores on the M4 Pro
@@craigneidel I respectfully disagree. The M1 Max studio has 24 core GPU and 400/s memory bandwidth , whereas the m4 mini has 16 cores, 16 core GPU with 276 gb/s bandwidth. I don't think the faster chip st is going to make up for this big difference.
Howdy my friend! Fellow UA-camr here! I talk baseball over on my channel. I just bought the M2 Max Mac Studio, but I’m thinking of returning it for this to save some money. I do pretty straight forward video editing (HD 1080p recording through OBS, usually 10-20 min videos, some transitions, pictures, possibly player video highlights) and plan to use ECammLive and possibly some OBS/StreamLabsOBS for live streaming as well. Only use 1 screen as well. Do you think the base model M4 Pro with 12 CPU/16 GPU, 24GB RAM, 512GB SSD (also buy an external SSD) would be sufficient? Thanks!
Absolutely! I use OBS too to record videos with 4k quality + my videos are well over 30 minutes. My 64gb ram mac has no problem but looking at the activity monitor, it goes close to the 19-20ish' GB usage. I also have the MBP 14 M1 Pro with 16gb ram and it BARELY makes it with the same settings for OBS. I have to turn it down and also turn off everything else while I run the program. Pretty sure 24gb will work. Personally, I would get a 32gb ram BUT that's just me lol.
You are so fast and so crisp in your initial review of Mac mini. Thanks! Now a problem: whether I should go with IMac with 24 GB RAM or Mac mini pro with 24 GB RAM for my photo editing purpose ( Light room classic). Of course Mac Mini option is costly. But what should be the way ahead if I want to insulate myself for at least 5-7 years. Your expert opinion is solicited.
Thank you. The question is do you have high quality color accurate monitor. The iMac comes with that so that would be key factor. Otherwise you may need to spend another 1k.
I am looking to trade in my Late 2019 Macbook Pro 16' 32gb and 1TB for the Mac Mini M4 24gb and 512gb. Will this be better than this laptop? I cant even get the apple intelligence on this computer at all.
Mac mini M4 Pro, for a person doing simple video editing (GoPro) which is desirable. Increase the memory from 24GB to 48GB or increase the CPU/GPU cores?
@@craigneidel I'm not sure about this comment. If the plug is in the back, it can be more difficult to access. Also, if you want to hide the wire from your headphones, consider using Bluetooth ones.
I would rather they gave us a microphone input rather than a headphone jack... I mean, most good headphones are BT, not to mention most consumers prefer earpods anyway that are BT. But a good studio microphone is best plugged in. :)
I have an 18 yr old, very large (18"Hx21"Lx9"W), custom built desktop PC which I keep on the floor next to my desk. Officially, it won't run Windows 11, so before October 2025, I would need to change the mother board, and processor, and, since I still do some Photoshop, the graphics card. I have an Apple Ultra 2 watch and an iPhone 11 pro max which I'll trade in for an iPhone 17 Pro next year. I'm tempted buy this Mini just for the space saving, and maybe for the integration with my other Apple devices, but all my peripherals except for a two disc SATA connected by Thunderbolt plug into USB A. That includes the mouse, the manual full sized keyboard, the sound system, the webcam, the laser printer. And my NEC monitor uses display port. I'm almost 87 years old and I wonder if I'm just asking for trouble by transitioning to an Apple computer. It would involve transferring thousands of Word and pdf files and thousands of photos.
I know some people who work for High End Production Houses for Hollywood. A lot of them surprisingly still use Intel Mac Pros but when I say they are maxed out to the brim, it's wild. I think I saw a reddit post where one person who worked at Disney has a Mac Pro where it is customized with having four W6800 GPUs. The normal or ones you can previously get can only get up to two or duo W6700 gpus. Of course they also use PCs too.
I’m a photographer and never use SD cards, haven’t used them for years. Most pro-level cameras have CFexpress cards. So SD slots have always been a waste for me. I’d rather it be another USB-C port.
This will be my last computer (i hope), so went a little crazy with M4Pro, 48gb ram, and 10gb ethernet, and 1tb SSD. I'm going to add a couple of external SSDs for transporting files and a large SATA drive for backups. My 2014 is super slow and might turn it into a music server. I'm thinking of a BenQ 32 4K and a new Magic mouse to complete it. Thank you for all the great advice and videos.
Because of 16gb finally a decade later all apple silicon minis have instantly lost $200 or more in resale value. The memory limit is terrible as is $20 for ,8gb 256 mb for an extra $200 768 mb for an extra $400 These are insane prices with much faster ssds at 4096mb. Needs 2 usba ports no one asked for the change to all USBC. Nevertheless the 16gb ran makes it a good deal for macs as many PCs move to 32gb base or less than $100 upcharge because of ai with upgradeable ssds sometimes that would be $400 extra in macs
It seems that the Nbase-T (2.5, 5, or 10 Gbps) now costs an extra $100. If I'm not mistaken, the 2018 and 2020 minis both supported Nbase-T out of the box, so it's a bit of a downgrade from what I can tell. Most people won't notice, but if you harbor dreams of running 2.5 Gbps Ethernet in your home office, it's something to consider.
My concerns: Easy access to power button and its location? SSD speeds of various configurations e.g. Is 256GB SSD still slower than 512GB+ SSDs? Power consumption and heat output e.g. Placing the PSU inside a very small case must increases heat and fan noise. Would have been better to use an external PSU and place the power button on one of the sides. Apple prioritises design over functionality.
Thanks for the overview Craig. Very happy with this mini, been waiting for a while to replace my 27 inch iMac and this is great, love the number of ports on the base M4 and it the price comes out lower by 250CAD. I have a hub so I can still plug in my old printer/scanner. Still debating going with a studio display or LG 40 inch 5k2k. Will probably depend on the price of the monitor when I am ready to buy. For me long term, this is better value and cheaper than going with another iMac.
I’m doing a sidegrade from my M2 Pro. I don’t need the extra GPU power. I have a powerful desktop. My Mac is for everything else. I wanted the smaller footprint and the only reason I bought the M2 Pro was because the M2 wasn’t compatible with my 120hz display. Now that the M4 does up to 240hz I see no need for a pro.
This is great! Finally I don’t have to go for the Pro version to get more USBC ports. I might get back into video editing again. For the M2 mini, the normal M2 chip with 24GB RAM would’ve been more than enough for me, but it only got two thunderbolt ports which was very limiting. My monitor support USBC single connection(keyboard, mouse and web cam could be connected to the monitor and will be passed to the computer when using the USBC connection), and I’ll need another thunderbolt port for an external boot drive, and both ports would be occupied. If I opt for good thunderbolt dock to add more USBC ports, that’s also quite a bit of money, it’s better to step up for an M2 Pro mini with 32GB RAM. But now, problem solved!
I don’t really know much about computers, but I’m feeling pretty discouraged. I just purchased a Mac Studio with the M2 Max last month, and now there’s a Mac Mini with the M4 chip that’s so much cheaper. Did I make a bad choice? Is my Mac Studio still worth what I paid?
I would never look to a Mac Pro now, the m4 pro looking at specs is comparable or higher then the M2 Ultra. This machine is very attractive and I have an M1 Max Mac Studio
Hopefully the release of the M4 Mac Mini will make the previous M2 and M2 Pro Mac Minis drop in price considerably in the secondary used and refurbished market.
The 256 base storage is a bigger flaw than lack of SD card slot, as is the fact that the power button is at a REAR (👎) corner rather than at the front, where it would have been more accessible. 😕
This is the one I've been waiting for! It's finally time to upgrade my 2014 Mac Mini. I'm going for the 16/512. It's all the computer I could ever want!😅
After several years of misses in the Mac space, they finally hit a homer with this. My M1 Mac Mini has done a Yeoman’s work but it is showing its age, this just might be my next Mac purchase. However, unlike the first M1 Mac Mini, I intend to spec this one up just a bit (couldn't do that with the original M1, specifically the SSD, 512 GB was all you could order on the 2020 model at the time), with a 1TB SSD and 24 GB of RAM.
@ Well, firstly, I am on a “work release”, so yeah…Secondly, I have been on the Mac platform going back to 1990, how long have you been on the Mac? Thirdly, it is an opinion, the Macs over the past 3-4 years have been lackluster…again, my opinion, something that I am still allowed to have (though that might change after Nov 5th, if a certain Californian is elected…🤢🤯). Yeah, I stand by my comments unreservedly.
Don't need the SD card as bad as I need an XDD. I guess the best compromise would be another USB C. A slot for an extra NVME drive would be nice. Lock in the main drive, but give us the option of adding one. Pipe dream, yes, but it would be nice.
This is now on my "things to buy before Christmas eats up all my savings" list haha! I'm currently looking at new monitors to pair with it, though I can just "borrow" my second UltraSharp from my PC set up in the mean time if need be. Asus apparently have a new 5K (proper 5K, not these ultrawide 1440p things) ProArt on the way "soon". It's actually supposed to drop round about now, according to rumours. I'm hovering over the Pro model with the upgraded CPU and 48GB of RAM. I can just use the Thunderbolt ports for more storage. All my big files are on external drives anyway in RAID1, like my iTunes media library.
Like the 64 GB Ram and larger storage options on the Pro. SD card slot would be okay but not a deal breaker. Since Apple hasn't delivered a 32" iMac with an M4 Max, I'm waiting for the M4 Max Mac Studio because I need lots of power. Gotta remember Apple keeps adding new software to slow down their machines so they can sell more hardware. I want to get ahead of this with a Mac Studio Max. Thanks for the videos Craig!
@@craigneidel I'm a developer with some HUGE projects and testing needs ( multiple parallel tests running under Xcode for starters). It's not just Xcode but bunches of tools and web pages( all open and running ) for reference during coding. Some of the testers ( like Max Tech etc. ) include Xcode builds but those are relatively simple and the volume of code vastly smaller than what I deal with everyday. Plus Xcode itself is a behemoth and takes a while just to launch with a small project even on an M2 Pro Mini ( and it gets bigger and more complex with every release ). Think of load time being almost a magnitude of a simple project launch and its close my loading timeframe. Waiting for the computer impacts schedules and potentially income. Spending extra to have a Mac Studio with a Max/Ultra is definitely worth it for me. You're right that most don't need this kind of power. Thanks again for sticking with the videos.
I think my M2 Pro mac mini is going to last me a couple of years, but I'm definitely going to upgrade to the M6 Pro mac mini because I love this new design. It sucks that I can now fit the new mac mini into a backpack, but not my Studio Display 😂😂

Wow, didn’t know the Mac Monitor is now $1300. I’m beginning to think that I might not a 27” monitor since I use two monitors anyway, and I seldom open two windows side-by-side 27” iMac.
Is anyone else bothered that they still use a HDMI port, which I've had nothing but trouble with on my current Mac Mini. It became such an issue that I just use the thunderbolt ports, and that resolved any Sleep/Wake issues I had with HDMI. Why not just have a video only USB-C style port that can be adapted to DP, HDMI, or just used directly with their monitor??
@@craigneidel Have you had issues with HDMI and sleep/wake? I've had them on every Mac I've ever had. It's sad that I have a video port, but just leave it empty cause the USB-C to display port or just straight USB-C connection is much more reliable!. Even the USB-C to HDMI is more reliable for me then the HDMI port!
That's an HDMI problem. Not all HDMI devices are made equal. A lot of people will use these hooked up to TV's in meeting rooms etc, and given it's size you can easily throw it in as bag and take it travelling and plug it into a hotel TV or something.
I have a late 2012 base mini and a M2 Pro Mini that each use HDMI to connect to the monitors and never had Sleep Wake issues. First I've heard of this. Could it be a cable issue?
Wait, the Thunderbolt 5 is only on the 'Pro" model. Things change so, you should get at least 24 gigs of RAM. Never get the small hard drive at least get 1GIG or you WILL be sorry...is what I think!!! So..$1500 if you want it to last. IMO.
Mac mini sounds like a superb little box!. Especially for those of us who need to implement multiple screens for real-time data stream, this box seems perfect. I'll wait for users' feedback, but I am very tempted to get that Pro version with additional memory.
yeah and the M4 Mini Pro memory runs at double the bandwidth as the M4 mini… and remarkably (or not if you understand Apples predatory pricing model) the upgrade price for the mini Pro RAM is $12.5/GB upgrading 24→ 48 GB and $16.8/GB upgrading 48→64 GB whereas on th M4 minis the RAM is $25/GB for each upgrade step. To double the speed at half the price, go figure!
This is very tempting. It probably has all the power I need for photo editing. I'd probably upgrade the M4 Pro to the larger core CPU and GPU. You'll need to start reviewing Thunderbolt 5 external enclosures for this baby. Thanks for your comments and opinion.

I am trying to think of any technical downside (loss of capability to use fingerprint id, etc.). So…should I trade my MacBook Air M2, 2024 for the new Mac mini M4???
Hi there, thank you for sharing the breakdown of the new Mac mini. I currently have a MacBook Air M2. I have been using it for video editing and it seems to be slowing down alot as I progress into more complex work. Is the M4 Pro version with bumped up RAM and storage a no-brainer at this point? Would like your opinion on this please... thanks again!
Yes M4 pro with enough ram will be a noticable difference for sure.
@@craigneidel Thank you Craig!
That’s a no-brainer!
So, how does the basic M4 compare with the M2 Pro reconditioned unit I just bought with 16 gb ram and no upgrades, where performance is concerned?
Both are fine for most things so I would not worry.
Yeah, actually if they would just give us 512 GB of SSD on the base I would have been happy.
@ agreed although internal storage matters much less to me in a desktop vs a laptop.
Since desktops just sit there one can easily add external storage that’s a lot cheaper and likely fast enough to store photos, documents and music.
Would be a big upgrade to my 2015 MacBook Pro Intel i5 Core 2 Duo with 8 gigs of Ram
For sure it would be
Thanks for the video.
Yes but they are much faster cores so it should outperform m1 studio.
I do. I think for that that configuration is all you would need.
Yes 100 percent better
Mac mini M4 Pro, for a person doing simple video editing (GoPro) which is desirable. Increase the memory from 24GB to 48GB or increase the CPU/GPU cores?
I mean 24 GB and base cores will be fine for GoPro editing. If you need to pick something I would do ram
@@craigneidel Thanks
I decided to do the same on the pro I just ordered: left the cores at base but upped my memory to 48gb.
Whats your mouse and keyboard set up?
I use a Mac keyboard and about 10 different mice since I review tech
Would have liked the headphone / speaker jack on the back. I can live with it though. Preordered the M4 Pro mini today.
Why it's way harder to plug in
@@craigneidel I'm not sure about this comment.
@@whitepixelsI agree 👍
I would make an immediate purchase if Apple allowed me to use my 2017 5K iMac as an external monitor…
Well isn't going to happen but I did a video on using a m1 iMac as display.
Yea! Got the M4 Pro coming soon❤
Sameeeeee
Bunch of people are ordering them
What’s the cheapest way to get some usb-a ports for this?
USB A to usb C adapter. 2 pack for $9 on Amazon
5 buck adapter
To be honest.... I have never used the SD card reader.
I do for video editing out of Sony camera but if I didn't do that I wouldn't care.
You never used WiFi 7 or Bluetooth 5.4. So Apple thinks not needed.
my camera uses CFexpress these days... I'm fine with the slot being missing
what is that orange enclosure?
Search my channel for rugged enclosure
Just get a few USB a to usc c adaptors and you will be fine. It will be a fun project.
Looks great! This will be my first Mac! Was hoping for WiFi 7 and 8K 120 but I’ll live. lol
It will be great
@@craigneidel TB5 leaves possibility of a update for 8K 120 Hz, no? it can drive 3x 4K 120 Hz or 3x 6K 60 Hz think…
@@alastairleith8612What about 2 5K @ 120hz? I’m thinking Apple could refresh the Studio display with promotion (and local dimming etc)
You don’t have an 8K monitor anyway. 🤷
Will M4 Pro with 24GB memory and 1TB storage be enough for content creator?
I would say yes for sure. I guess it depends if you shot in 6k or something crazy but 4k should be fine.
Yes. Unless you’re working for Hollywood.
Yes but most users don't use that port so apple won't install it. They want to cover majority of users
That is a nice setup for sure. 48 GB will be so nice to work with
Really hate deciding between Mac mini or the iMac. The Mac mini is just such a great deal it’s hard not to get it.
Yes this year they are great systems.
Because of 16gb finally a decade later all apple silicon minis have instantly lost $200 or more in resale value.
The memory limit is terrible as is $20 for ,8gb
256 mb for an extra $200
768 mb for an extra $400
These are insane prices with much faster ssds at 4096mb.
Needs 2 usba ports no one asked for the change to all USBC.
Nevertheless the 16gb ran makes it a good deal for macs as many PCs move to 32gb base or less than $100 upcharge because of ai with upgradeable ssds sometimes that would be $400 extra in macs
Yes older Macs should now lose some value.
Thanks for posting
Mac mini M4 Pro is a home run! Very close to a Mac Studio. 24 Gb of unified ram! Thunderbolt 5!
Front USB ports are not Thunderbolt 5.
Will be a great system.
I almost never turn any desktop Mac off so the power button doesn't bother me too much
Thanks for the overview Craig.
Thanks. Yes I can't wait forever on the iMac so may need to do the same thing.
Base cost in Canada is 200 bucks more, across the board. For me, perfect would be making them upgradable, and being able to use the imac as a display.
Yeah Canada is always much more for some reason. Upgradable would be nice.
Yes it sounds like you know what you need to do now.
Like the PC side tb5 on these need to allow external GPU.
Pipe dream but would be nice for sure
Hope there is no thermal issue - not sure what was the need to make it smaller
Good fan inside so I'm guessing it should be good
chip is more efficient. PC problems don't translate to Mac.
@ I have the Mac mini m1 and it does get hot when pushed. Principal of physics apply to Apple as well.
It's a great new Mac. Time to buy one and join the club. We will all be getting one.
The studio and Max chip are great too but it depends what you are doing with the computer.
Buying anything Apple, in the weeks leading to new hardware announcement is really asking for a frustrating experience.
I would never look to a Mac Pro now, the m4 pro looking at specs is comparable or higher then the M2 Ultra. This machine is very attractive and I have an M1 Max Mac Studio
Yes this Mac mini does make it a bit confusing on what's the best Mac to get
Hopefully the release of the M4 Mac Mini will make the previous M2 and M2 Pro Mac Minis drop in price considerably in the secondary used and refurbished market.
For sure. The 16 GB has to make that happen
The 256 base storage is a bigger flaw than lack of SD card slot, as is the fact that the power button is at a REAR (👎) corner rather than at the front, where it would have been more accessible. 😕
How often do you turn off a desktop Mac? Just put into sleep. But SSD does suck.
@ I turn it on to use for a zoom session about once every 2 weeks. About 99% of my computing is done on my iPad Air. Your milage may vary. 😉
This is the one I've been waiting for! It's finally time to upgrade my 2014 Mac Mini. I'm going for the 16/512. It's all the computer I could ever want!😅
It's time for the upgrade.
It will be a great new upgrade for you. I think I may get one around that spec too.
Several years? They've had homeruns for a while now. Did you just get released from prison?
@ Well, firstly, I am on a “work release”, so yeah…Secondly, I have been on the Mac platform going back to 1990, how long have you been on the Mac? Thirdly, it is an opinion, the Macs over the past 3-4 years have been lackluster…again, my opinion, something that I am still allowed to have (though that might change after Nov 5th, if a certain Californian is elected…🤢🤯). Yeah, I stand by my comments unreservedly.
This one is coming for me soon. This is what I have been waiting for! Going to trade in my M2 Mac Mini!
Nice. They are looking great so far
Great time to buy M2 Mac Mini. I like older size more.
All Macs should drop in price due to 16 gb base ram now
Don't need the SD card as bad as I need an XDD. I guess the best compromise would be another USB C.
A slot for an extra NVME drive would be nice. Lock in the main drive, but give us the option of adding one. Pipe dream, yes, but it would be nice.
Yeah that's the holy Grail.
1 or 2x USB-A would be nice, but not essential. Practically everything is USB-C now.
Yes, that is changing for sure.
That will be a nice setup. BenQ has a 5k coming soon also. Will come down to price or just get studio display. Thanks for watching.
Problem is the price of RAM. I don’t care for internal SSD size, don’t use it at all, as I always use a 4TB external SSD anyways.
The mac mini is a great computer. Unfortunately the imac they got wrong. No 27inch, no pro etc.
iMac is for a different audience in apples eyes.
Very good point about the SD Card slot. I am sure someone will offer a simple cable-less push in adapter for a SD Card.
Yeah they have those already but it would have been nice
I was looking at a M2 Mac Studio but why at this point? The new mini is perfect -tons of memory tons of storage what’s not to love?
Yeah this could hurt studio for sure
@@craigneidelmakes me wonder what’s up their sleeve on that one 😂
@@thatampguy they need to go big on that now. But may be $42000 now too
Like the 64 GB Ram and larger storage options on the Pro.
Thanks for watching. Just curious what you do that requires that much power ..
Yes the Mac Mini pro with a BenQ 32 inch 4K or the 5K 27 inch . Add a Blue Ant SoundBlade. Sick!
Maybe sounds good to me
I was hoping for the space gray version of the Mac mini
Yes just one option there
I think it’s fine without the sd card slot. We’re asking too much for its category. You can add a dongle anytime. ;0
Yes but I just thought it would have been nice. The 256 GB is more of the issue.
I think my M2 Pro mac mini is going to last me a couple of years, but I'm definitely going to upgrade to the M6 Pro mac mini because I love this new design. It sucks that I can now fit the new mac mini into a backpack, but not my Studio Display 😂😂
Yes it should last you a while. Yeah can't fit that studio display in a backpack.. funny thanks for watching
@craigneidel Thanks for the great video, Craig. Cheers.
Dude. This thing probably also works with my iVanky dock!
Yeah, but that dock costs almost as much as the Mac mini - funny.
@@craigneidel hey, it works great for my MacBook Pro M2 Max 💻 -- it turned it into my full blown trading station with 4 displays

$200 for 256 GB of storage is 33% of the cost of the computer. Crazy.
Yes that part makes no sense.
Wow, didn’t know the Mac Monitor is now $1300. I’m beginning to think that I might not a 27” monitor since I use two monitors anyway, and I seldom open two windows side-by-side 27” iMac.
Yes the studio display was down to 1249 a little while ago but went back up.
@ , do you think it’s worth getting, or would a cheaper 3rd party monitor suffice?
Is anyone else bothered that they still use a HDMI port, which I've had nothing but trouble with on my current Mac Mini. It became such an issue that I just use the thunderbolt ports, and that resolved any Sleep/Wake issues I had with HDMI. Why not just have a video only USB-C style port that can be adapted to DP, HDMI, or just used directly with their monitor??
That's not a bad idea
@@TalesOfWar I figured that after all my issues, so why not just replace the HDMI port with a USB-C port that can be adapted to any connection?
I have a late 2012 base mini and a M2 Pro Mini that each use HDMI to connect to the monitors and never had Sleep Wake issues. First I've heard of this. Could it be a cable issue?
Wait, the Thunderbolt 5 is only on the 'Pro" model. Things change so, you should get at least 24 gigs of RAM. Never get the small hard drive at least get 1GIG or you WILL be sorry...is what I think!!! So..$1500 if you want it to last. IMO.
Everybody's different so I guess it depends. Good news is the will have great resale values of you ever change your mind.
I am used to using external speakers plugged into the 3.5mm connection on my iMac. I really wish the M4 Mini had the jack in the back as well.
if you want clean setup, you need jack to usb c adapter or just bought digital audio converter
@@hazzelnuts Thanks! Never occurred to me to use an adapter. Been spoiled using my 2020 iMac 27". I'm used to a clean look!
If the monitor you're using has an audio pass through (most do) you could just do that too rather than plug it directly into the mini.

Mac mini sounds like a superb little box!. Especially for those of us who need to implement multiple screens for real-time data stream, this box seems perfect. I'll wait for users' feedback, but I am very tempted to get that Pro version with additional memory.
Yeah I need to decide if I go with pro or standard version.
yeah and the M4 Mini Pro memory runs at double the bandwidth as the M4 mini… and remarkably (or not if you understand Apples predatory pricing model) the upgrade price for the mini Pro RAM is $12.5/GB upgrading 24→ 48 GB and $16.8/GB upgrading 48→64 GB whereas on th M4 minis the RAM is $25/GB for each upgrade step. To double the speed at half the price, go figure!
this makes up for the imac presentation
I didn't hate the iMac either
This is very tempting. It probably has all the power I need for photo editing. I'd probably upgrade the M4 Pro to the larger core CPU and GPU. You'll need to start reviewing Thunderbolt 5 external enclosures for this baby. Thanks for your comments and opinion.

Love this new location.
The last time I turned either of my Macs off was when I was out of town on holiday, otherwise they just get put to sleep. Everyones use case is different of course.
