Jordan was one of several players who conspired to keep Isiah off the dream team. But a lot of the animosity has to do with Chicago. Isiah being from Chicago, MJ feeling threatened by that, MJ struggling vs. the Pistons, and then you have Chicago being such a nasty place for black people with the segregation producing people who are, frankly, hard to get along with. Actually the Pistons didn't stop Jordan himself. That's a myth that has to always be dispelled. The problem the Bulls had in the pre-championship years wasn't that Jordan was being "stopped" but it was a COLLECTIVE talent advantage those other teams had. Between '87 and '91, in 44 head to head matchups between the Bulls and Pistons counting regular season and playoffs, Jordan averaged 34.5 points per game which actually exceeds his career average in the regular season (30.1) and playoffs (33.4).
    Jordan was always the best player on the floor, whether it be against the Celtics, Pistons or Lakers but he never had the collective talent around him to match in order to give the Bulls a realistic shot of beating those teams.

    • @TheWartHawg
      @TheWartHawg 28 днів тому

      Exactly. Jordan's place in NBA history was going to be were it is regardless. Had Pippen not joined the team, he would have still been every bit the MJ we know, but we would be taking about him in the same context we speak of Barry Sanders in football. That being "its a shame he wasn't on a winning team."

    I love when they talk about teams in the 80's that could beat Michael Jordan. Maybe because it was Jordan (alone) against Bird with McHale and many star players or Jordan against Magic. Magic had his support system and Jordan was ALONE. When Jordan joined the BUlls in 1984 the BUlls were known as the Cocaine Circus. Jordan never had ONE allstar player until 1991. In 1991 Pippen finally became an Allstar after practicing and playing with Jordan for four years. Pippen never even played bb in college. Check Pippen out on youtube in the 80's starting with 1987 he wasn't even a starter.

    The difference was Coach Jackson and Scottie Pippen. Pippen was an ideal complement to Jordan. Jackson convinced Jordan that Jordan had to use his teammates. This was something Bird and Magic did immediately, which is why Bird and Magic dominated the 80s - best decade of the NBA. What makes Jordan's story so cherished is because Jordan evolved throughout his career, never seen before or since in the NBA, and then it had a story book ending with six titles.

    The big thing back then in the papers and from the pundits was that 'home court advantage' was valued. The Bulls worked pretty hard to solidify home court, but of course that isn't the end all be all. And it wasn't just about Pippen emerging or Jordan - there was a toughness brought in from Cliff Levingston & BJ/King were starting to play better and the triangle had full buy-in. The biggest 'odd man out' was Dennis Hopson and part of that was Jordan's fault. But yeah, it was their time.

    1:20 (: Fun Fact : "three-peat" and "Threepeat" come from the Los Angeles _Lakers_ organization. Pat Riley filed for the copyright © protection on the term for winning three Championships in row at the beginning of 1988 - 89 NBA season. The Lakers had won the previous two NBA Championships, and he got a bright idea. The Pistons immediately ended that idea by winning a tough and rough championship in 1988 - 89 ... heh
    *Chicago did that Threepeat thang, twice* .

    • @josemanuelcaballero1162
      @josemanuelcaballero1162 29 днів тому

      It is, still a double three peat was more possible in the 90s than in the core 80s. Without Dr j /moses 76ers, the Showtime, Birds Celtics and the Bad Boys around. I still think the 5 titles the Lakers got have more merit. And the biggest what if for me is what could have happened if 1) Pete Maravich health and psyche did not deteriorate, 2) Bird had not broken his back , 3) Bill Walton did not break himself neither and 4) Len Bias had not killed himself. Any combination of 2 of these 4 factors would have easily doubled the Celtics titles. A combination of the 4 factors would have given the Celtics the whole decade, along with MVPs and finals MVPs being lotteried among their rosters only.

    First of all the Pistons had already gone to four consecutive Eastern Conference Finals and Three straight NBA Finals. The year before they won their first title they lost to the Lakers in the NBA Finals. The year before that they lost in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Celtics. So here they are in the Eastern Conference Finals for the fifth year in a row. It was time for the Bulls to experience getting to that next level just as the Pistons had done to get pass the Celtics. Go back and check the stats about MJ and the Bulls against the Pistons with Isaiah Thomas and the Celtics with Larry Bird. MJ had a losing record both in regular season and the playoffs. He never won a playoff series against Bird and he only won one series against Isaiah Thomas which happened to be that 1990-1991 season. Isaiah Thomas was at the end of his career and believe me he had given MJ more nightmares than any other player MJ faced his entire career. Just pull up all of the games one by one and get the facts. Especially games in Chicago where Isaiah Thomas showed MJ who was the man in Chicago being that Isaiah was born and raised in Chicago. Straight Facts

    The best teams of the early/mid - mid - late 80’s were the Lakers Celtics Pistons & Bulls. Early 80’s we can obviously throw the Sixers in there but early mid - late 80’s it’s those 4. Have a look at those 4 teams - I’m mean seriously it’s 3 all time teams (that’s talent, coaching, chemistry etc etc) the Lakers/Celtics/Pistons were all time teams in every way - Chicago?? Bruh. Without MJ the 88 Bulls are picking number 1 in the following years draft. It’s 3 all time teams - and a team that had MJ and varying degrees of average-below avwrage role players and young unproven guys. And MJ single handed was making things interesting. The 89/90 back to back Pistons - they played 2 playoff series against Chicago - & 6 playoff series (that includes 2 finals) against everyone else. The Pistons beat Chicago 4-2 & 4-3. 5 defeats to Chicago…… the Pistons lost 2 games the other 6 series COMBINED. 5 games in 2 series against Chicago - 2 games total against everyone else. To put in perspective - the Pistons were 8-5 against Chicago…… they were 22-2 against everyone else. The 89 Pistons if not for MJ would hav even the first team to go undefeated the postseason. MJ carried the Bulls to 2 wins. MJ was the best player in the world - simply going against the 3 best teams in the world - while his team were like the worst-the middle of the pack depending on the year.
