  • Fred Southwick lost his leg 1 year ago and is trying paddleboarding for the first time with a water resistant prosthetic knee from K12 prosthetics. Notice how Fred first lifts himself from a jackknife position to standing and then stabilizes himself by placing the paddle in front of his body. Then he begins paddling. Once the board is moving his balance is stable. He tries to catch a small wave. (Video taken by David and Cory Clark, fitting of the leg was by Kyra Ketnick and Geoff Hemmen of Hanger Clinic. The XT9 water resistant leg has the knee angle set at 15 degrees with 60 lbs of pressure; Fred's body weight is 170 lbs, The NSP paddleboard is 11'6" long 33" wide.)
