We are going to be replacing our present dishwasher in the very near future. We had a GE Profile for a number of years and are pretty happy with the results. Our next dishwasher will most likely be a Kitchen Aid, we have a Kitchen Aid refrigerator and are happy with it. We like to get appliances from the same manufacturer. The other models we will look at are GE Profile, I saw on your chart that they’re more reliable than the Kitchen Aid.
My Kitchenaids have served me very well over my sixty years. I’ve also had an excellent Maytag that was made in the late 1990s and a Whirlpool that I was very happy with. Twice I’d moved into houses that had GE dishwashers and I disliked both intensely. I was always washing multiple pieces over with every load. I love GE ranges and the two refrigerators that lasted me the longest of all of my refrigerators were from GE. I’m just not fond of their dishwashers but I could be convinced if new engineering proved differently. I had a Bosch dishwasher and the racks deteriorated after only six years. I wasn’t happy about that. All in all my Kitchenaid dishwashers have served me best.
GE has a new lineup of dishwashers they are launching now that has microban (antibacterial coating). Those are their best, most feature-rich dishwashers in the Profile line.
The rotating jets under the 3rd rack sold me on the KitchenAid. How do other brands get items cleaned in the 3rd rack if items in the middle rack block the spray arm under the middle rack? I know they have water coming from the top, but that can't clean the insides of bowls and cups on the 3rd rack. And items in the 3rd rack would block the water coming down from the top. How items in the 3rd rack get cleaned is a mystery to me.
For most brands you can only put lightly soiled things (like silverware) on their 3rd racks for the exact reasons you laid out. The top jet is basically a spritzer jet. It does fine on lightly soiled stuff but doesn't have the cleaning power of the other racks. That is why most other machines offer a very shallow tray to force the consumer to only put small lightly soiled items there.
Hi Steve, you don't recommend the 404 and I'm curious why. According to another major appliance channel, that's one of Kitchenaid's most popular models. Is it just because it was hard to get when you made this video or is there some other reason? Thanks.
My personal opinion is the higher-end KitchenAid's are more feature rich and overall are the best American dishwashers on the market. Jenn Air is still very similar and a great dishwasher in its own right.

I like the 404, but it wasnt available at least in my region throughout the pandemic. That said, we aren't selling KitchenAid anymore.
How do you compare the Kitchen Aid, specifically the M Series to its familial mate from Jenn Air? Are they the same except the badge?
