I've created a lot of quizzes recently based on the UK charts, and as I have just as many people watching from the US, it was about time I mixed it up a bit with songs that topped the Billboard Hot 100. I'm interested to know where you're from and how you got on with tue quiz, to see if location makes a big difference.
I didn't realize I must have stopped listening to Top 40 radio sometime in the mid 90s (I recognized 3 in that decade, and then nothing till Legend & Miley.) After then, the only ones I knew were Miley and Legend, although I did recognize Taylor Swift's voice at the end.
Another great quiz! Between my daughter and me, we did well from the mid-70s through the 80s, and then she was strong from the aughts until now. The 90s are a weak spot for both of us, and despite some of the 60s sounding familiar, we were challenged to get to a title or artist for most of them. It seems like many songs get to the top of the charts by being blandly appealing and offending no one. I mean, I liked Chicago well enough back in the day, but looking back it doesn't really stand out from the crowd. Not a lot of boundary-pushing songs at the top of the chart.
I think that's a really good way of summing it up, recognisable but not necessarily exciting. But I think that's the same for many of the charts. Perhaps I need to expand into some other specific categories 🤔 It's interesting that there was a decade that both of you had as a weaker area, but nice it then picked up again for your daughter later on 😀
