Chuck, I am in my third year of my software engineering study, and things are tough for me. this video is so wholesome and wonderful - really over the moon they are support this platform. The interaction with your daughter was so cute. Love this content.
Your little one is adorable! My own little girl is about to turn 9, it's crazy how time flies. This was an awesome video, guide the little ones, but have them do the hands on work, I love it. Keep up the good work!
11:20 It can't, among other reasons because Roblox actively blocks WINE and the RasPi isn't strong enough to run desktop Window$ (which is too bloated to be run on such a low-power computer).
@@SimonBauer7 I haven't thought of that, although Roblox may also block that as soon as it becomes commonplace. And it would most likely require an emulator with google services enabled, which (I think) is pretty hard to come by especially on Linux. Waydroid has an experimental option for that, so maybe it'd work.
That is not entirely true. Windows 11 runs about as good as ubuntu 24.xx on a Pi 5 8gb. Can’t talk about Roblox though. You can also get the iot or Enterprise LTS Version. They are bloat free and configurable. The only issue are missing proprietary drivers. So you need an USB Ethernet Adapter and there is no HW acceleration for Videos in the Browser. Aside from that it works well enough.
Hey Chuck, I want to thank you for your videos, you got me interested in Virtual machines and by learning more and more about virtual machines it got my a better job at the company I work at. For that, I thank you :)

I think I remember like 5 or 10 years ago I could barely even watch UA-cam on a linux computer/Raspberry Pi. I almost gave up on Linux. As soon as that lil one learns how to access the router there will be no more network chuck allowed in that house. All ports forward to Roblox servers now.

It's handy for some cheap setups, for example I used one once to monitor a camera setup. Used to be a small Optiplex, screen and keyboard, we changed it out to a Pi400 and it was much neater and faster.
I think this is great for schools, that want to learn using Linux / Raspberry Pi and even do some small experiments with it. You don't want that to be with a "normal" pi since it can easily be damaged. I also bought one myself, because it's easy to just plug in and use. Great vid!
I don't think its for me, but man I WANT THIS. Jeff opened it up and there is a potential M.2 Slot and POE in the future, I LOVE the idea of a PC and Monitor all powered by ONE cable. I'm gonna wait until they launch a M.2 + POE version, then its an instant buy for me (even if i don't need it).
It can be a lightweight portable computer, still has the HAT interface, and does everything the Pi 5 does. Missing out the NVMe hardware on the circuit board is something they need to fix in a different version.
I like the unique form factor, but I can't understand one thing. For daily use as a primary computer - why is it better than a laptop? Laptops have the same performance, size and layout of the monitor and keyboard, but unlike the RPi500, they are portable and don't require you to connect anything at all. What are the advantages of RPi over laptops? In addition, if we talk about technically unsophisticated users, they would really rather have Windows. And if someone wants to try Linux, it can be installed on a VM or a flash drive, and there's no need to buy additional hardware... Although I like the concept of the RPi 500, I still don't understand who will use it, who the target audience is.
Hey man, I just wanted to say I loved your home phone system video so much❤, that I’m now planning to set up my own telephone network within my home. The addition of AI to it was the cherry on top!
Roblox is no longer supported on Linux, raspberry pi OS is Debian Linux, you can play Roblox on it if you install android or WOR (Windows on Raspberry)
I'm pretty sure the monitor does come with an a mini HDMI to HDMI cable, I'm sure Jeff Geerling saud he had one in his package on his second channel. Are you sure it wasn't missed placed? What's more interesting in the 500 Pi board has provisions for an NVMe slot and PoE, although not the physical hardware, so their may be a version, or the board reused in another product with those features.
Quick video production question. How do you capture the drawing on top of the video like you tend to do? I gathered it's a Wacom Intuos or something, but how do you get it to draw on top of the video with that amount of precision?
The monitor seems quite good. But as for the raspberry pi 500 it fails, like rpi 400 on one easy thing. The micro Hdmi ports. Those should have been, even if it was just one of them, a full size hdmi port. Because hdmi cables are aplenty. But having to finale about with micro hdmi to hdmi adapters, in addition to a hdmi cable is just a hazzle. The rpi 500 could have had a full size hdmi port, and perhaps a usb-c that can output to a usb-c monitor, on it. That would have made sense, and would made to product easy to use. My opinion to the industry, kill the micro and mini hdmi ports already, and go with full size hdmi and usb-c going forward.
I have a raspberry pi 400 I was planning on using it like a normal raspberry pi for a central hub I saw a dude once put a monitor inside a plastic container cut flush into the wall with a plexiglass covering the whole thing and a keyboard and mouse in there where he'd use it as a central hub to monitor and control things in his home But now that I'm saying it out loud that seems stupid lol I'll still do anyway cause it looks really cool

Maybe it won't play Roblox, but it might play Luanti (formerly Minetest) which has some cool coding mods. LooseWheel made LWScratch and I think signbots. If you fancy some text coding in Lua there's Mesecons and Digilines, as well as mods for those mods such as Digiterms. And if you dyn't want any of that there are some fairly chill games for the engine with various levels of challenge. I like NodeCore, but that may not be suitable just because it's tedious in the early game literally rubbing sticks together for fire. One that may be better is Voxel Libre which is much more like Minecraft that originally inspired Luanti, and of course there's Minetest Game which was the default game for a long time, but that's what most mods are built for.
maaaaan... I love you and your vidz chuck lol, but maaaaaaan... imagine if the pie was in the screen instead, them life = no cables lol. Yeah I'd dig that more. Wait is there a screen pie?
The reason roblox does not work on Linux is because roblox refuses to click the button to allow Linux with there anti cheat when its just a check box they need to click
I'd love to have the 500 desktop kit, my only gripe about it is the form factor of it. I can't stand a small keyboard without a number pad, just too small for my hands. 😅 if it's offered in a 100% variant, or maybe a kit where you could install it in any keyboard shell you want, I'd be arranging to purchase my own with a quickness 😂
Every time I look into a pi I end up getting another refurb i3 workstation for $150-200 an. Still idles only around ~15 watts. Docker containers, file sharing, plex with QuickSync, multiple monitors and can playback 4K UA-cam smoothly if you wanted it as a desktop too
It has a place for an M.2 NVMe, but the hardware for it on the board is missing. Also, there is a place for POE, but that's not there as well! So will their greed cause them to come our with Pi 500 v2 or Pi 600 to add this hardware? Time will tell! There's a sucker that will just keep buying until they realize what the Pi Foundation is doing!!!
The Pi 4s i have are good for headless stuff. Not responsive enough for desktop use. The Pi 5 is better. I have a few 1L i5 mini pc (comparable price) that do the desktop thing much better than tge Pi 4 or 5. I will keep the Pi s for headless stuff, and i have enough monitors. If i have to, i will plug in the Pi temporarily to an existing monitor.

So will their greed cause them to come our with Pi 500 v2 or Pi 600 to add this hardware? Time will tell! There's a sucker that will just keep buying until they realize what the Pi Foundation is doing!!!
a way to play roblox is go use an android emulator on linux and then use the android version, the normal one doesnt even work on x86 linux.
What was that stain from, because I know that's not a coffee stain from your beloved coffee.
My kids, who wanted to play video games, dreamed of a Windows PC with a powerful video card🤕
I see no point in the 500. An Android tablet with an io card could do a similar job and is already completely integrated.
Be way better if that was a touchscreen and the keyboard had trackpad built in
the raspberry pi 500 really looks sick with better specs and the monitor. wish i had it too.
(hey u if u arent subscribed then do it now)
talking about raspberries, we need a fing review! thanks!!
🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Freakin loved the sad faces for Roblox not working hahaha
I was just looking at this for my kiddo.
5 year old is better than most people working in an office.
