I remember I was like 9 years old looking at video games in wal mart and some old lady asked me what a good game would be to get her grandson. I told her to get Chrono Trigger and Super Metroid and she got both. Whoever the lucky kid was, np man =)

I honestly believe this is the single greatest song ever written for a videogame.
It's because Mitsuda wrote it for someone special in his life. It was something he had composed before he began working on Chrono Trigger. : )

This is the first thing I listened to when I heard Toriyama passed. I know he didn't work on the music, but this entire game affected me so much, I think of the entire work of art as a collaboration between some of the greatest minds in game development history. Thank you for everything, Toriyama.
How fitting, to have passed in the year of the dragon. May your influence be carried to far away times.
Part of me still doesn't believe it. This man, I wouldn't be who I am today without him. My love of martial arts, that's in part his doing. The game that influenced my life the most, Chrono Trigger? Part of his work too. Nothing so far has come to capture the magic of that game for me. But hopefully, even with his passing, his work lives on to inspire more people, to give us another golden age of art.

I truly wish more games could be like Chrono Trigger, A game that has unforgettable characters, A Timeless Story (Time Pun intended) And Absolutely Amazing music.
The closest we have are Xenoblade Chronicles (1, only 1) and Hollow Knight IMO.
Just one year before, the same company created a game called “Live-A-Live”. Perhaps you’ve heard of the recent remake?

One of the best songs written for a video game, considering it was the ending theme, it was so lovely. It wasn't an overly grand fanfare, there was something sweet and gentle about it, something soothing like a lullabye, well an energetic lullabye.
Stands alongside Terra's Theme, Theme of Love, To The Future and Angel's Fears... wow the SNES really was the golden era of video games, especially where music was concerned, not to say that there weren't some really great themes before, and some really great themes after!

As a lifelong gamer who started with the Atari 2600, I completely agree that the SNES era was the Golden Age of video games. Early PS1 era was the Silver Age, and it's slowly settled into the 'pretty' age now, where graphics are king and storyline / gameplay / replay value is secondary.
This was the perfect happy ending song after a long journey
What ending? They have a flying time machine, the battle is over- the journey only just begun. :{)

Chrono Trigger is the greatest videogame ever made, the apex of gaming as an art form, and the game God plays. It is the one and only perfect game ever made, and ever will be made.

Completely agree. Especially when you consider the time this was made. It still holds up and in most cases buries the competition on almost every front. Even with the 16 bit graphics, the art/story/music do more to ignite your imagination rather than leaving you to rely on the provided graphics for visual support. I find my self imagining the characters and the environments more than actually examining them... I thought Chrono Cross did an excellent job of that as well. Whether or not the final boss was a good fight, there were some tough fights in that game if you didn't know what you were doing. Twin Golems in the Ocean Palace could cause problems. Giga Gaia also wasn't easy. The Rust Tyranno on the Rainbow Shell quest to name another. Those were tough fights for a SNES title.
The thing, it was a game made from LOVE, no filters, no politics, no quick sell, no gimmicks, no nothing, the patience of the 90s, help create countless masterpieces from gaming, music and even, to movies.
Personally, TV when not worried about censors, has become GREAT, where movies have become POP as GAMES ARE NOW MORE POP, make it pretty it will sell, granted UNCHARTED and many other games are great, Squaresoft was at another level of story telling, made you part of the quest, like Zelda OOT, just flawless.

Do you know the story behind its music, and Yasunori Mitsuda? It's one of the reasons I agree with you. There may never have been a game, before or after, that a man put his as much of his heart and soul into composing the music for.
The real magic of this song is how it takes you back in time, just like the Epoch. Essentially, what the plot of the game does in fiction, this music does in reality. It's art come to life.

My girlfriend and I shared a love of Chrono Trigger, both having found it independently in our youths - to this day, it remains my favorite game of all time. She has never finished it; I have finished it several times over the years. It was a regular source of playful teasing between us, myself encouraging her to finish it, her insisting that she would.
When we flew to visit her family last year, we both started new files together, promising that we'd finish it together this time, and as I listened to this song and watched the credits roll, I insisted that it was still as incredible as ever, and that she needed to finish it too so I could share the experience with her. She laughed and said she would, just give her time.
She is no longer my girlfriend and no longer in my life, and this song is a blade of sorrow in my heart, reminding me that it's an experience never now to be shared.

As I heard this for the first time I shed tears and for some reason reflected back on my life. everything I have done so far, people i have met, Friends and old homes i'll never see again. Makes me slow down and wonder what's in store for me. what will the next chapters of my life hold?

The composer, Yasunori Mitsuda, originally composed the song to send to his deceased best friend, with the hope that they would live the same era together.
This sounds like something you made up?
Mitsuda did say in an interview that this song was written for someone that he “wanted to share a generation with”, but I’ve never seen anything about the person in question being deceased.

This game actually gave me more clear insight on morals. The companionship, watching each other's backs, helping others regardless of the level of danger involved and putting others before yourself, investigating problems to figure out solutions, and many more crucial decision makings.
You should never put others before yourself unless you know they are worth it. Evil narcissistic people will abuse you over and over if you do this.

That theme, was such a princess happy ending, she really did wait it out, for Chrono, after the Trial.

Very few games could boast having such a wonderful ending theme, especially nowadays. This one is just so timeless.
Ff8 is the only thing that came close, but in reality I think its none. That's coming from a die hard ff7 fan as it was first, but first handedly realize how much ff7 heavily borrowed from chrono trigger and even ff6 which is another amazing title in it's own right.
What an amazing cover. Very loyal to the instrumentation, yet doesn't have the limits of a cartridge. Keep up the great work. :D

Man why it hard to find game similar like Chrono trigger
In this day and age it is very rare for anything to take me back to a time when life was filled with hope and endless possibilities. That being said this song brings the feeling of peace and security I felt in those wonderful years. No black winds are howling while this beautiful melody is playing. Time to fire up the wings of time and play this again.

There really is before and after this game. Before Chrono Trigger, I only conceptualized video games as idle distractions. Shooters or platformers without real story or emotional engagement. After Chrono Trigger...man.

I'm sad my kids will never see Chrono Trigger like I do. To me it is perfect. I'll introduce them to it one day, and they may play it. If they do, their reaction will probably be "meh, its ok." I might get a "that was pretty good, dad." They won't see it as revolutionary and inspirational like we did back then.
I do hope they get to play a game that makes them feel like I felt when playing Chrono Trigger. I hope one day, a game like that comes along again and gives them the chance.

I really wanted a remake of Chrono Trigger for the new consoles, but not because of the better graphics, it's just because I feel bad about having the fantastic opportunity to play this game, while many players of the new generation don't even know this masterpiece, and I wish they could feel the wonderful feeling of playing what is for me, the best game I have ever played.
