As a former search and rescue member, not paying serious attention to the fact that someone in your party is far behind was the first, and most fatal mistake. A party of two strong group leaders/participants should have gone back to locate him. When I led trips, I never let anyone break away too far, especially on night trips. Head counts and check ins frequently, not just for attendance but for health updates too, especially if people have allergy or diabetic issues. To this day, I still have not located any evidence connected to a missing person I've been looking for in valleys and peaks in the Highwood region since 2011. What I have found in the mountains over decades sometimes has me puzzled, and sometimes scared. SPOT or Inreach beacons! Always have a beacon included in your gear!

Amen. I was a police officer for nearly 30 years here in Arizona, and I did mounted search and rescue...and we ALWAYS operated on the Buddy System when searching. The biggest culprit in non criminal action missing hikers (especially here in the desert is arrogance, overestimation of skills, and underestimation of how much water is needed)....and of course, carelessness.

DO NOT BE LAST IN LINE...or too far in front away from your group. This is a common mistake. Personally, I believe this case to be part of David Paulides' Missing 411 phenomenon, and he covers it in one of his many Missing 411 books which you can look into on his website: canammissing
These people fall into several specific profile points. You can't truly grasp it unless you read at least one of Paulides' books; perhaps your local library may have then, as well. Also, Dave has a UA-cam channel as well. Paulides broke this Missing 411 scenario some 12 or so years ago on Coast to Coast AM with George Knapp. It is fascinating, intriguing, and a genuine phenomenon. Dogs never track, because there is no DNA or scent trail to follow; bad weather usually sets in that was unpredicted, children go uphill in mountainous areas rather than downhill, and always much too far for a child; usually found badly scratched. Some people are found, some are never found again, dead or alive - always dazed, often never hungry or thirsty. Yeah, maybe less than 1% could be sasquatch, but the profile points don't fit sasquatch, unless sasquatch parties in college nightclubs or drives a semi. There's far too much to get into here, but I'm glad Justin has brought this to the attention of his membership, and has mentioned/credited Paulides' Missing 411 scenario. Something is taking thousands of humans from all over the world, with no explanation that makes sense. There are also 3 DVD's in Paulides' quest to present factual evidence. I recommend viewing all 3, in order, if your not a reader. Also, you can view his YT channel for over 200 videos presented and outlined on these specific profile points, people, and cases; or go to his website for further info. Thank you Justin.

That Selfie photo sure is disturbing. There were no social media as we know it back then. To take that photo as a 12 yr old using an analogue camera, probably in the darkening hours… well, I’m sure it had to be very important. My guess is that he wanted to show it to his family if the camera ever was found. It looks like he’s lying down. Maybe it was someone else taking the photo?. Another scary thought…😮

Those who are commenting «he was taking the picture in an attempt to see what was behind him», I don’t get it. This was in the early 90’s and the camera was analog - How was he suppose to see what was behind him, by taking this photo? There was no way for him to view the image, as it was on a roll of film, and with his face towards the camera’s lense AND flash being used, all he would see either way would be the all bright flash that would drown out what little night vision he had at the time the photo was taken, leaving him with the image of the flash going on for several minutes.
Isn’t it more likely that he was trying to take pictures with the flash so that he could see the terrain infront of him, but held the camera towards himself because he was not able to see which way he was pointing it, due to the darkness?

  • @Frisco-gb8cd

This is one of your best shorts. The photo of that young man with the suspected eye behind him was definitely....interesting. I have to wonder why he would be taking a selfie before selfies were even a "thing".
Logically, taking a picture of himself would negate the idea of using the flash as a light source because it would be pointed toward him rather than in a direction of travel.
That leads me to theorize that he was, in fact, trying to take a picture of something behind him...or possibly something carrying him (????). The eye, if that is what it was, set in a very dark face that was not illuminated the same way his own face was...so possibly an African American?
An African American would be the easy answer, but truly, how many African Americans are hikers when compared to European Americans? Just based upon the 13% of the population that happens to be African American, versus the 80% that is European American....it makes it highly unlikely that it was an African American.
So, what then? It would seem to me that a darked skinned creature with a forward set eye that was close behind and possibly carrying the boy is more likely.
Yes, these are guesses...but they aren't "wild assed" guesses. I was a police officer for nearly 30 years and investigated more than my share of missing persons, homicide, and crimes against children cases and the profile of a predatory African American doesn't fit. Most children are abducted by relatives, As this is not the case, then a European American human fits the profile of a human as the suspect....but that circles back around to the dark skin on the supposed creature behind him.
It is pure conjecture, and a couple of educated guesses, and theories...but I would tend to believe that a good chance exists that it was a sasquatch abduction and subsequent consuming of the boy as a food resource as there was no body, or body parts found.
I wonder what the weather conditions were in that area then? Was it drouthy? Was food scarce for larger mammals? Was the deer census low? Was the boy a meal of necessity, or a meal of opportunity?
    So many questions.

Have followed David Paulides for a few years now and he does good work for sure. I am always extremely uncomfortable at the thought of people being left behind on excursions like a hike or a deep sea scuba driving trip. It is horrific for those left behind to be faced with such a dangerous truth and then for those who realize people have been left behind. It is just awful all around. I've seen this picture before and it may very well have been on one of David's videos. It does look like something alive is right behind him and he took the picture to show it because he knew he was in trouble. Great sadness for him and his family.

Very often podcasters do not answer questions. They present videos and have precious little time to respond to every question. He has mentioned that many times. Also, since his son, Ben died he has changed, as anyone might and he has been very open about that process. If someone does something to upset you, as a podcaster or as a grieving father you might have no energy for that. You might block the person.

    • @deerichardz
      @deerichardz 5 місяців тому +1

@@jessicasarmy8896 If a podcaster has the time to pump out three, sometimes four, videos a week, they have the time to answer questions. He does engage with his comment section on a regular basis as well. It's very obvious he polices his comment section to remove any criticism. You really should look into who he is, you'd be surprised at what you find. If the guy is going to play the sympathy card, maybe he should first off, be honest with his content. If he can't do that, he really is just out of touch with reality. The '411' he created is his income, he'll do what it takes to protect it, not because he is a big ole bag of emotions.
As for the photo, would you stick around to take one if you were in that position? People will believe they see something, just because they 'want to believe' there is something to be seen.

In the 60's, when I was a scout, we were prepped in many ways to prevent such circumstances. We wore whistles around our neck, had a means to start a fire(for signaling) & never split from the group. Our scout masters were mainly police & military professionals(they were armed).
We never had such an incident, when we went out. Basic survival skills, first aid & being physically fit were prerequisites. Situational awareness was key for success. We knew how to use our compass if we ever got seperated. We didnt have cell phones or location transponders. The first rule we learned was, to never panic in such situations. The saddest part for these lost & missing individuals is, many were likely preventable. I left my Scout Explorers group at 14, due to relocation. They were valuable skills which I never forgot. Adapt & overcome to survive. That was our mantra 24/7.

But I'm no expert...holy WOW I have never heard that part of his disappearance-I've seen the photo, I've never seen that EYE!!!

When I was in scouts we never left anyone behind . And I came up in the 80’s. Maybe it was cause our leader was female or maybe it was cause you just don’t do that . Of course it was a bummer waiting for someone that is obviously struggling but the alternative is someone possibly being lost forever.

This poor young 12 year old Jarrod and the nine year disappearing from his mom in close proximity. That image is disturbing when hardly any one cared to take a photo of themselves in the 80s and 90s. Did he do it for identification for searchers? Was something stalking him? And is that eyeshine? You can see the fear in his eyes. God bless his soul.
We live here in BC and the case of Melissa McDevitt was in the news. When her remains were finally found exactly where that was the news wouldn't say or how she died. She was an avid hiker herself that park was not that big its just a regional hikers park, near Sooke Vancouver Island. She disappeared on my brother's birthday, that's why I was able to remember the date. She was seen on closed circuit television around 2 pm something and only about less than two hours of daylight was available for a winter month of December. That is a problem about how the news reports things. They are either withholding details or really don't know.

Look, that picture is extremely disturbing. It looks like an eye. That things eye has a big pupil and a smaller amount of white around the pupil. It could be a human eye but it does not look like it to me. Unless there is a marble behind his head that is 100 percent an eyeball. There are lots bad elements in san Bernardino. Black bear there are skiddish in my experience. Snakes, mountain lions, and human weirdos are around surely. I wouldnt hike that range without some protection as a grown man. With or without a group. Always stay with the group. If u have to hike alone make sure someone knows ur goin out in it.

I just discovered your web channel. Great shows! Johnathan David Whitcomb wrote a book called "Live Pterasaurs in America". Based on his analysis (and another author's book about Canadian disappearances), the 2 authors propose that living Pterasaus fly in behind the victims, snatch them like an eagle grabs a fish and takes them to the highest elevation to their nest. The scent stops (dogs lose the scent in the middle of a field, etc...) where the victim became airborne and sometimes in fighting back, the pterasaur drops the victim and they are found face down in a ravine miles away from where they were initially snatched by the pterasaur. Interesting reading.

Perhaps the people disappearing without a single trace only for their bodies to turn back up a year later in a previously searched location is one of the reasons that certain factions of the government are so disinclined to go forward with disclosure.

Yeah. And nearly half a million children a year, missing in the US alone. That's nuts!
I know human trafficking is, sadly, real. But something else seems to be going on (with numbers that high)- and you are right, if there are powers-that-be entangled in these disappearances, then rest assured, they will move heaven and earth to make sure disclosure never happens.

He never returned and has never been seen again 35+ years on. The Police were involved, a thorough search was made of the area......no trace absolutely nothing.

  • @essentialazoils

Some questions Justin, that you may wish to use for a future Video on this topic. What did the autopsy reports show on the bodies recovered? Cause of death? Time of death? Also I know you go on a lot of expeditions on your own and you're well equipped, but how wise is that given a lot of experienced people have gone missing? I think Sasquatch is a plausible explanation for these disappearances but it amazes me that no footprints show up near the missing humans' last prints. And yet we find Sasquatch prints in plenty of other places. Can these beings hide and reveal their prints at will? Maybe. My opinion on this subject is that we're looking at a phenomenon with more than one reason (a bit like UFOs). Some may be Sasquatch related. Some may portal related. Others might be kidnappings for human trafficking purposes. It may even be creatures far worse than Bigfoot like dogmen, skinwalkers or rakes. Interesting topic.

In fact in areas with high-density wolf populations, cougars have also been known to kill several deer and leave behind for wolves to find in order to keep them off their trails trying to scavange a meal off of them.

I've heard of his disappearance several times of the years & it's absolutely awful that this extremely young man that his group didn't care enough about him to keep an eye on him and see that he remains with the group . That said this pic of him , it does look like an eye however if you look closely it should be on the side of his head and I believe you can make out some of his ear. Most of these extremely odd disappearances can be avoided if people learn to insist on remaining together , not to go alone and to be prepared with a GPS tracker ( at least these days ) my heart goes out to all the families......
Les stroud from survivorman reenacted the two year old boys case & gave up not even halfway threw saying there is no way it can be done without killing yourself let alone being two !!!

One with a rational mind would think this not there is a Sasquatch behind him or he is trying to light his way. If so why not point the camera in front of you and take a photo to light your way or scare off whatever sounds you may be hearing? No? Much better the flash your face and blind yourself? C'mon.
