OMG...Memories, and great ones at that...I loved every minute! I raced in 250 Int 1977 and 1978 TD and TZ days, before joining the Zip Team with a spanner in me hand! Now living in Australia, but last time back in UK caught up with Butty and Vaughn McNeally. Of course went to Martins funeral....very sad time . I know he wasn't the most loved racer out there, but he did a hell of a lot for the sport. Good luck with everyone from that era keeping in touch

Absolutely brilliant. What a race what a weekend. So good to see Mr Karting himself, Martin Hines doing the hospitality bit. We miss that guy. Great stuff.

I was there massive turn out, got there on the Thursday, think it was free practice on Friday, Heats on Saturday and GP on Sunday. Saturday night was special big piss up at Driver Club at Woodcote Corner with Bar-B-Q, then with the wife on my shoulders and my brother and his wife in same position, we had a race of the start/finish line for about 10 yds. It was a great long weekend. Nigel Mansell came down, I think it was 1981, each day in a difference car, he was driving for Lotus at that, full of BS. I raced 210's we had grids of 60+, I did '81,82 & 83.

A great reminder of how scarey fast the original Woodcote Corner was at Silverstone. The Kart GP was one of the few times it was still used which made it my favourite event to watch at the circuit....The grids were huge and provided some of the best ever long circuit racing. A golden age fondly remembered....Thanks for posting.

I think I never seen a race with so much superkart!
motorsport world was not so "closed", so expensive as today...

I grew up on this, anyone remember Martin Merrit who raced with Reg Gange and Hermitite. My Dad raced with them in that era. Long circuit racing in the late seventies early eighties was a sight and smell to behold.

Yeah I raced there too. The comentater should have got his facts right though. I was never underweight in the heat , or I wouldn't have been on the front row for the final.

If only F1 today was as exciting as this instead of boring pouting Hamilton and his fkn cronies. Awesome vid with more overtakes in a race than shitfest F1 in 5 years LOL.
