  • DUMP TRUCKS #44 features (older video) of a tri-drive Western Star 4900 and Kenworth T800 plus (new video) of tandem-drive Kenworth T800 and W900B trucks, all loaded with 3" Minus black rock crushed on-site. Video from 2018 mixed with current 2023 video, giving a broader timeline to this prolonged excavation.
Backstory: Located at the north end of Vernon, British Columbia, a small rocky knoll unofficially nicknamed "Blister Hill" (and/or "Cactus Hill") remained untouched by heavy equipment until 1976. Over the past decades the knoll had been intermittently reduced since 1976 for various reasons. In spring of 2018 action returned to the knoll for a few weeks, excavators and two tri-drive dump trucks -- Western Star 4900 and Kenworth T800 with tridem trailers -- excavated the coveted black rock for landscape material.
Equipment once again returned to the knoll in spring 2023 to further reduce the knoll, track crusher reducing the shattered rock to 3" minus, excavators of various manufactures load Kenworth T800 and W900B dump trucks. The crushed rock is hauled to a nearby site utilized the as pre-load.
As a young kid my family lived two blocks away from the knoll. I provided a 1971 photo of my father posing with Sockeye salmon, the knoll in the background in its natural state before it was excavated. The knoll was covered with cactus hence its nicknames.
Please feel free to comment on the video.
    Thanks for watching!

That's a cool back story on the knoll. Its crazy to see the progress of their efforts on it over the years.

Thank you for watching the video. As a kid I definitely had enjoyable moments up on that knoll. Even though it was steep we slide down the lesser inclines on inner tubes during winter, freehand climbed the steepest sections in the heat of summer.. The excavation equipment certainly has made the area unnoticeable from a distance. Some nice looking trucks moving the Earth away.. Some basic, hard-working trucks as well. Love them all. Thanks again for watching. Much appreciated!👍😎

Hello my dear FRIEND, Chester!!! 🙂
How's it going ? I enjoyed this video very much.
Seeing 8x6s so close is rare on video. I also like 6x4 transporters. But I like the 70s-80s version, with the round headlights.
Here the weather is bearable, we have rain.
I assume you're fine and I hope it's less hot for you.
    Thanks for the video.
    friendly

Hi Wilfried, thank you for watching the video. I hope to get a better diversity of trucks in the next few videos. Truck traffic certainly has lessened over the past years. Truck configurations related to forestry are certainly fewer than last year. Construction is rampant. The climate is quite conducive for those looking to retire. The heat is terrible, around 36/37 Celsius, which is around 97 Fahrenheit. Wild fires are raging up north. Soon our skies will turn smoky, as mid to late July and August tend to be worse for wildfires. I wish we can get some of your rain. We did have a rain storm a week ago, certainly felt nice and dropped down the daily afternoon temperatures. I'm doing well. ....getting out more. Hope to come across some older trucks for you. Hopefully by fall I will have a nice video put together. Wishing you a nice week ahead, remain healthy and happy. Stay safe, Wilfried. 👍😎

Hi my dear friend Chester. It's true that with the climate, the economy, a whole set... The wood industry is slowing down. Several years ago, over 20 years ago, I watched and recorded a report. They were already worried about it in the forests of Canada. I still have the video. The trucks were heavy loads of logs. They drove only on forest roads. Here, the highs are 29 to 32 degrees... for a day! After that it goes down to 23 degrees and it goes up again but it does not exceed 30 degrees..........Except in the south-east of the country where 40 degrees have been exceeded. I hope for you that you will have rain. And not as many forest fires.
Thank you for the trucks, the advantage is that in Canada you are more conservative than here.. We have standards, which require changing vehicles... It's rare to see an old truck from the 80s , even from the 90s! ...I understand the ecology side, but hey...it should be fair for everyone, the factories seem less penalized...and the planes.
Thank you my friend, I wish you: a good week and lots of rain. Take good care of yourself.
      See you soon,
      Wilfried.😀

Another great video, interesting to see how long the side tipper is , ours are not as long as that, probably around 36 foot, something i've never bothered to measure . I did like the white W900, very nice, we do have Pig trailers over here too just in case you were wondering... off to another new job tomorrow, side tippers carting ballast along the Rio Tinto Iron Ore railway in the north of WA, so we'll see how that goes, hard finding a job I can settle into, always something that ruins a good job, or maybe it's me getting old 🤣🤣🤣 keep an eye on my instagram for the odd big rig photo, hope your well and able to get around, cheers again

Hi Wilson, truly hope the new job carting ballast along the Rio Tinto Iron Ore railway is settling in well. must Google the area. Sounds interesting. Very interesting. i'll keep an eye on Instagram. Trucks Down under are incredibly cool! Definitely difficult finding a good paying job. ... which also offers good equipment! Driver's needed around here. Hire signs everywhere. Age may play a part regarding why jobs are lost. Lol. The craziness of current society makes a person pull their hair out, if that means find a new employment to get away from a bad environment, so be it. ..... mental health is everything. Lol My physical health has improved. Getting out quite a bit. Started videoing trucks again. Crazy heat, 37C. Too much heat too early for this guy, Haven't acclimated to summer yet. Stay safe and keep the hammer down in that new ride. Hope the job lasts longer than the last. Cheers, mate! 👍😎
