    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Alice (Claire Danes) falls before a Thai Judge and claims full responsibility for all drug smuggling charges.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
Two carefree Americans embark on an overseas vacation that soon becomes a nightmare in this powerful drama. Alice (Claire Danes) is a headstrong teenager who wants to do something different to celebrate her high school graduation, so she persuades her more reserved best friend Darlene (Kate Beckinsale) to join her on a trip to Bangkok. While enjoying sun and scenery, Alice and Darlene meet Nick Parks (Daniel Lapaine), a charming Australian who shows them the sights and sweet-talks Darlene into a romantic assignation, which is something of a surprise to her bolder friend Alice. Nick then suggests that they join him on a side trip to Hong Kong, but they soon discover that Nick's interest has been neither friendly nor romantic: he has hidden a large amount of heroin in their luggage and is using them as drug runners without their knowledge. When the heroin is found by customs officials, Alice and Darlene are quickly tried and sentenced to 33 years in a hideous prison known to inmates as Broke-Down Palace. Their plight comes to the attention of "Yankee Hank" (Bill Pullman), a renegade American attorney in Asia, but while Hank struggles with the court system to get Alice and Darlene released, they must deal with the living hell of life behind bars, and their own doubts about each other. Brokedown Palace was directed by Jonathan Kaplan, who previously dealt with judicial injustice in The Accused and teens in difficult circumstances in Over the Edge.

They found another woman who was unknowingly a drug mule for Nick Parks as well. They were both set up... but Darlene was the one who kept wanting to hang out with Nick ..... she complained and bitched about it and had the audacity to make it seem as if it was her friends fault

I always cry in this scene. It's a testament to Clair Dane's acting. Her sacrifice here brings the entire room to a stand still of shock. You could hear a pin drop. Most people would never do something like this. I knew she never did it 100%. Her friend would have broken down psychologically in the prison long-term. She couldn't have handled it. Claire was strong and street-wise. She could. She knew this. Sometimes you just have to do the right thing. If one could be free, she'd have a better chance of getting out and why should 2 suffer...this is one of my favorite scenes in all the films i've ever seen. This scene and the end in Schindler's list. The same kind of selfless sacrifices each character made for another.

This is such a powerful scene because anyone watching this movie no she didn't do it and even her friend knows that she didn't that's why Darlene had such a stunned look on her face that she would accept responsibility so she could go free ❤️❤️😥😢

The best scene/acting in this entire movie is when Kate Beckinsale's character's father confront Claire Danes' character in the interview room. As the father of a daughter, I see another poorly behaved toxic child just being a cancer like this in my daughter life. We all know she's going to end up incarcerated. She is pulling the same stunts and then acting innocent and somehow charming her way out of consequences. Allowing for group discipline when it's obvious that she's a cancer. It's so satisfying to see them throw the book at this character. When Mia finally ends up in prison for the stunt that finally breaks it and she can't lie, cheat, or charm her way out of it. I intend to visit and just slam the coffin lid shut on her and it will be so savory. So sweet. I just hope my daughter finally sees this parasite for what she really is first. All these years of smiling, and listening to her mother make excuses and watching her just keep it up. i'll put 50 dollars in her commisary, serve a restraining order, and promise her if she ever darkens my families door again, i'll make sure she's a geriatric before she ever tries again. It's the long game, but right now no one sees her for what she really is. I do. Claire Danes nails the role. Phenomenal acting.

All Alice ever wanted the whole time was for someone to believe that she did not do it. Not even her own dad would give her that validation. Hank eventually did in the later part of the film. But what mattered most is that in the end she chose to accept the blame to save her friends life.
What is never made clear in the movie was who actually did it? Was one (or both of them) aware that they were gonna smuggle drugs? Someone had to get through their bags. They both had some time alone with this guy Nick. So did one or both of them sleep with him? Because the whole time they appeared to be keeping secrets to protect their friendship but eventually this doubt will put a strain in their trust.
One thing for sure though, Alice is that kind of a friend who will get you into all sorts of trouble but when it comes down to it, will take one for the team. Just imagine how different things could have been if Alice just chose to not go with Darlene on that HK trip.

    • @DaughterOfTheKing_

The reason Alice daddy didn’t give her the benefit of the doubt is because she has always been in trouble which is why Darlene dad snapped on her when he came to the prison. Remember the scene when he said that Clair had always been a trouble maker? Darlene dad didn’t like Clair at all.

A sequel for this movie would be something like this: Darlene never stopped fighting to get her best friend out of prison, and even though Alice was sentenced for a lifetime, she finally gets free after a coup d'etat took place in Thailand (which really happened, MORE RECENTLY IN 2014) so, the corrupt system that sent these two girls to prison is not in power anymore and Darlene and her lawyer finally proved Alice innocence. Well, Alice is finding it hard to adapt to her new life in the States, and Darlene despite being married with two kids, decides to help her best friend by visiting her every day and staying with her. In the meantime, Alice starts to develop feelings for Darlene (she always felt something for her -actually I wanted these two to fall in love in the original movie) and Darlene realized it and tries to stop it in vain. She is in love with Darlene, they were best friends and Alice gave up her own freedom for hers. Nobody has ever done something like that for Darlene. Well, I wish I can write more about this, but it is hard for me to express it in English) this sequel would be about a romance between two women, a beautiful romance, and especially now that we have A-list actresses playing lesbians in major movies like Carol, Disobedience, etc. Claire and Kate can play the roles they did before, and they look fantastic.

Each New level of mourning.. because you cant figure out ur one Decision is forcing you to torch’ur own relation’ship.. taking owner’ship for that “small” notch’your your knot response’a’bull for that put a punked’your in the ship you treyed to sail.
    Witch switch yarrow witch….
Whole time you thought.. you’d done it before and God said you were good.. when youre number got called cuz under the circumstances at that time.. before he was on board…. That was all you knew.. but now in these sees.. that became different and you Werent paying close enough attention in the new gym’ and Hire levels…. High’ed wide…. Gain a penall’t.
Why would anyone risk their forever and then use their own money yo right others.. if not to “buy salvation” .. became the narrative..
Meanwhile.. thought i already has salvation and knew i was screwed. So why not help someone else .. never occurred to me that others thought that was me trying to buy salvation and now im sickened and quite frankly Upset and angry.
To me it was more.. do what i can to stop the pain from the friend i had Gained and been suffering with.
First year i lied to protect another women i knew was in domestic violence with massive anxiety…. That i didnt know would be impacted by my truth….
Second was because as a single person i know the dangers of havinh no savings or Cushion.. and with Fathers who wait til ur at your weakest and kick.. but there i was.. making the wrong step.. and expecting it to “fly” .. of all people youd think id be the one who’d know better then the one lie or hyde.. i think previously living Amongst that Was hard to see my truth enveloped in others.. and Understanding why i made choices based on the threat of what would happen to me.
Isnt weird.. death doesny scare me.. but Having my childs and my mental health impacted by Circumstances which will likely spiral us down into places to gain more mental health and trauma ..
Asking if thats Psychosomatic or self sabotage because like others. I am not worthy of Good things.. and anytime they come . I find a reason to break it down .ruin, burn, Disrupt, destruction.. etc.
Wanted to Look at it and ask the point in building something to be so beautiful and then destroy it because someone said thats the way to handle someone making choices.. wondered if it was something im doing to myself to understand the feet of the betrayed.. or betrayer who got what they deserved.
Looked back on my time of disruption and destruction and Wondered if That was others telling me i saw that was fair so.. yeah.
Except i did it to protect the vulnerable from the unsafe teachings .. and did it with direct confrontation…. At the time comparing it to the extreme ways we handle bad behaviors.. at the time i thought i was “good” so it wasnt a conscious decision to “burn” though i knew it did.. and now knowing better .. wouldnt do it twice.. ao i wondered how people who knew better and had read every story could do that to someone if they knew better? Seems those intensions arent the same..
So then i assumed .. they didnt know any better cuz what i did.. and so .. or maybe they saw it.. and thought i knew better..

So there is am now.. Able to see.. i made and error and judgment and Created my own Path to destruction.. completely unaware that was the moment.. til i went back.. thought about it.. decided to try to fix my mistakes and Risk the no safety net.. knowing 3rd world people children, women, all living in tents.. no good things for them..
Looking at the stares and feeling sad i let everyone down .. turns out Wasnt rocky.. i was drago…. Wondering if Voldemort had ever put his want down and said he was sorry… what magic would occur if Harry had won him over with Love like he had the others…. Wondered if ot was possible to ever be seen for being the one who thinks weird.. but not Malicious.. the one who gets scared of whats coming to her next round and trying to not succumb to wrath and misery of the mourning…. Reminded constantly of the prisons, gas chambers, Women having children used against them. Cant fix it.. cant Make the starving babies smile. Cant Believe what hydes in plain sight… cant make any jokes without it being me not understanding the weight of one choice that Resulted in such misery.. not deserving good jobs and praises when Decision is made.. because it wasnt made for that .. still just dont want my kids to suffer more then they have too…. Knowing a simple soda was all i could do to make them smile..
Wondered what the point was of building me up and telling me i was good.. only to look back and see why everyone hates paul.. except me.. but then wondering why i hated bad news being delivered that i was Not as good as i had led to believe.. only to see all the gifts and Leading to think that only to burn it down…. Wondering why no one just did what i did and came to me directly and said what i did like Paul.. then back peddling in cycle and remembering This all started with a hyde…. Soo again . Maybe this is kings orders
King ordered Daniel abendigo into the fire.. so God could stand with the ones who re/fuse to make others stand in fires alone….
Maybe its done to see how birdy the mimic octopus will escape the burning ship this time… Call her houdini.. how is she doing it.. cuz you’d have to underatand and “watch for the birdy” moment.. what was the “re’son” she does it.. is never to harm or cause pain .. shes always doing her best and looks out for everyone but herself and as dumb as her choice’says are.. its Not malicious .. its growing up backwards and not getting it….
She doesnt give charity to “look good” she does it cuz she knows what it feels like to have a mother “need” a christmas room as her daughter is Homeless.. and not caring.. seems gross to have nice things when others dont have food..
she Didnt steal and lie to get a way with something. Guilt eats her alive.. she did it because truth doesnt match the things shes trying to balance.. unaware she should t have had all that to balance and past choices caught up and inconvenient mental health/awakenings..
Justification? Maybe.. or simply trying to show how people can look from the outside at someone and make assumptions or comments about how/why Someone is doing something.. and feeling deceived .. only to find out No one was trying to “pull the wool over “ to hurt anyone.. really bad with money, and lacked understanding of how realms shift impacted slights’ ..
Simply going to have to figure out a away to transition To simpler ways of life And still find smiles and happiness and closeness in it…. Hard’ship to work with.. and that wasnt the way to put in a window of light .. buy way of hole.. but Least i learned thats not the way to gain light…
Feels weird to pay of debts before feeding hungry people.. In my mind .. Feeding hungry people was more important then My debts.. (then how can you afford netflix) ., cuz its about keeping spirits up… again.. back wards thinking makes zero cents….
Soo thought id explain the weird .. air it out.. Might be blind to how i come off.. but I can Atleast tell you .. just in case anothef ship comes along.. thinking that hole is a window.. . You could Alert them they are taking on. Water.. and via’king headed for sin’king..
beauty of being a beast who is spineless .. cuz we hold no bones.. we dont know were spineless or that hole we see that we didnt know wasnt a window.. got us back to the bottom of the see’ where The self destructive Finds belongings.. In the caved full of Broken Discarded . Rusted and Shattered Once loved items. Like marla (from fight clubs) prom dress.
Its weird to be the one who cant even go to group meetings.. cuz you might find People who will like you.. and understand you .. and You would feel like ur taking advantage of people there cuz you understand why he goes and why the other’s are there are different.
I think people think repentence means certain hoops for others…. That aren’t necessarily the right way for some to go.. and for me .. i gotta keep doing wrong til i figure out why thats the right step.. not just take it because i see what it means to others who look to see what choices someone males as a sign they understand.
Which is weird.. cuz its the same reason i will make the wrong choice 1000 times.. because i just have figured out the angle to see it.. and i wont accept the Movement simply cuz others will praise me for doing it. Its gotta be because it makes sense to me… once it makes sense..
      Its a no brainer..
Alice in wonderland has a world behind her to base “right” off of.. cuz she falls into the hole…. from being “right” …
But you see how everyone in wonderland thinks backwards? Makes no cents…. thats Hell.. youre born into it… gotta climb into a hole you made that you didnt know you made or the way out. Climb out.. acting like a person who spent a lifetime in a whole and all the civil people call you names and talk about you like you didnt learn theor language “hearing” from the hole you were in. Wondering why the “civil” never Thought to care for the creatures.. rather them keep the mine’d games going and Not mess them up further… isnt civility about Being a good example of talking straight? Something someone leaving a hole might Not understand til she gets the butt of the joke that feels like the smart civil people laughed at the blind and deaf cuz maybe they didnt know we could feel we were hated .. but maybe no one thought We understood language..
Dimensia patience remember who makes them feel bad.. it never occured to me to laugh at them in their bad behavior.. or Twist words or use theor dreams to teach them lessons about how to be civil.
Almost makes me understand Wanting to stay in prison….for treeson…. Cuz the civil people cant or dont want to talk to you directly.. and laugh at you…. While atleast the ones in jail can understand you know ur trash.
Then i see all the hands Who keep being keys to see through the door .. how much a blind key player os loved even when shes blind and the last eye surgry didnt work..

    • @Embarasin
      @Embarasin 4 місяці тому

Because she keeps doing the painful surgery .. because of those hands who keep encouraging that key player to keep trying.. cuz she wants to see more then what she feels.. But was blind to that thing she was doing on that back peddle..
Maybe the last surgery worked…. And that key hole .. was lam light that made it so Rays could come through.. not Octopuse good at playing key bars.. but not understanding the tank .

True. You do know that Thailand has a treaty with the U.S., which means that in real life, they would have pled guilty and receive lower sentences (before
being transferred to US custody, to serve out the remainder of their terms), before being released.
Watch 'Locked Up Abroad', one of the episodes titled 'Busted in Bangkok'. It features an American woman, Angela Carnegie, whom spent nine years in a Thai prison for attempting to smuggle heroin. She was then transferred to a US prison in December of 2002, to finish off the remainder of her sentence, before being released in 2003.
Carnegie is now married and lives in California with her husband, Andrew (the same man whom told her not to go to Thailand).
But anyways, just you might want to know. This movie was made while Carnegie was imprisoned abroad in Thailand.

This movie bombed because the whole premise is beyond stupid. They don't want to go to Hawii so Thailand is there next choice? If they wanted a memorable last summer they could have taken a road trip across the country. There is no way the parents wouldn't have found out they changed their plans. The parents would have also wanted to call the hotel while they were away. Don't get me started on the pool scene at the hotel. They sneak into a hotel they are not guests at and they charge drinks to other rooms. Don't attract attention to yourself and pay with cash like Darlane wanted to do. Also I think hotel waiter would ask for proof of the room before letting anyone charge stuff to the room.
