Conqueror vs ZSU-57 storage box | APDS Penetration Simulation

- Simulation of Conqueror tank projectile hitting ZSU-57 side armor + steel storage box
120mm L1 (Tungsten Carbide core APDS) at 1390 m/s
vs
15 mm HHA (side armor) at 60 degrees + storage box (4 mm steel sheet).
120mm Ordnance QF gun muzzle velocity - 1463 m/s.
The idea for the simulation comes from the player warthunder 😃 - Наука та технологія
So it did shatter after penetrate ?
I don't think the remain part can penetrate more than 70mm of armor
Depending on the distance, for a few centimeters of gap it would probably penetrate 70mm
The important thing is that the cap was torn off. The core with cap would be able to withstand 15mm hard armor plate much better.
@dejmianxyzsimulations4174 how do you make these videos? i wanna to tests with sabot rounds vs the t90s front turret
@@axel3151it's called ANSYS i believe, and it took like weeks to make one simulation
So I'm guessing you had a ZSU storage box eat your conqueror round in war thunder
Yeah, that was exactly what I was thinking too lmao. This scenario is too random for it not to be inspired by something like that.
shit thunder.
gaijined
it was actually me who suggested it, and yes, it happened to me
So he put about 200 hours of computing time into this just to prove Gaijin is wrong
to anyone questioning why it was made:
i while back i made a jokeing comment about the Conqueror's APDS shattering in a scenario like this. Yes, it happened to me in War Thunder.
And to my honest suprize, he made a simulation on it, despite everybody knowing what would happen.
If you are interested, APDS in that game is still broken, and all carbide APDS is basically useless, and underperform in any and all aspects, including:
1, awful accuracy
2, almost no damage even if it penetrates
3, shattering on literally any spaced armor, like in this scenario. it depends basically from patch to patch (in one this Conq APDS even shattered on 2 pieces of ~4-5mm structual steel plates on a milk truck barely overlapping), and the extent of theis shattering varies. currently it isn't that awful, but for example tracks as addon on the side of a Sherman still shatter APDS, but this ZSU scenario would result in a penetration
FFS even if it shatters, you still have a couple kilograms of tungsten carbide going 1000 m/s. It's just a bit cracked now! Come on gaijin
Chieftain's apds dont suffer from that problem right?
@@claudiovic9883 It is tungsten alloy penetrator, not carbide. alloy penetrators are okay, they almost never shatter. for example the L7 APDS will go through even the superpershing's 3 layer spaced armor, even if it is angled, while that shell has way less performance than the chieftain's APDS.
@@Boomchacle their potato run-down "simulator" can't do those kinda sims i bet.
projectile hit. bang. spread particles out. ignore kinetic energy kinda stuff.
@@kopazwashere i think you talk about non-penetration, and not shattering.
there are a lot of cases, where 2 overlapping plates cause a non-pen. the algorythm just freaks out and calculates some absurdly high armor values.
shattering is different, it is due to spaced armor literally making the shell shatter.
neither is realistic in their current form tho
Every time bro gets a bs non-pen or death in War Thunder he goes “aight lemme simulate that shit”
if i could, i would do it myself haha
I love when people give answers to the questions no one asked.😂
i asked
Eternal reminder that even Panzer Front for the Playstation 1 has a more realistic ballistic formula than War Thunder.
man I love that game
looks like someone got really bad war trunder moment on his recent gayming session
So it went exactly how it should've gone
Ah yes, the fabled tungsten carbide foam core shell 🤣 Either that or Soviet air is much more dense and abrasive than we had previously assumed!
If the air were super dense and hard, there would be no tensile stress and the projectile would pass through it without harm. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
just physics...
why?
I'm convinced at this point, the majority of these videos are related to getting Gaijined on WT. Lol.
like firing a shotgun at a squirrel
Vladimir: ayo, blyat, my toothbrushes 😡
Thats way more errosion on the 120mm shell than there should be.
tungsten carbide does not erode under standard conditions lol
Impossible. Must be a mistake. Stalinium can't be defeated
Maybe it's because there where no tool in that box....
Conqueror: I can penetrate a lot of things whit apds !
Storage box: i will EAT you
I guess the author couldn't get a Conqueror to penetrate a Zsu 57 in a Wart Tander
Any idea what would typically be stored in that box? There wasn’t much left after penetration so I wonder if a bunch of tool steel could influence the penetration.
Somebody got Gaijin'ed today
Could we get a dud round simulation? Like a HEAT round hitting a tank, failing to fuse, and just doing its best with kinetic energy?
Feel like it’d be interesting to see if it can do anything
probably, but for tank armor nothing will happen, it would make more sense for a light AFV.
Oh no, he punched it! Incredible!
now that you have done a lot of tank rounds can you do rounds like the m995 or m885a1 for 556 gun vs lvl 4 armor plates
Question, what is the hardness of tungsten alloy that makes up AP penetrors? I'm trying to find a source but i've had no luck. I know that its lower than tungsten carbide but by how much? Please and thank you.
Generally, the maximum hardness ranges between 32-35 RC. Depending on the tungsten content.
Wow that is much lower than i expected, huh.
Speaking of WT, they added LOSAT. Kind of added. Mere mortals won't get it. But with it being on test vehicle(that isn't YaK-141 or Ostwind II that will be finished by devs) it's kind of unusable due to vehicle itself being largely unfinished.
But it still is a massive AP(APCR?) round. Not the biggest in the game, but it seems like the fastest for its size and mass.
Any chance you'd use against something as equally ridiculous, like say battleship armor?
Losat shoots rod.
@@jintsuubest9331 yes, AP "rod". That has neither fins to stabilise it, nor sabot to discard. Anything else?
@@TheArklyte
The rocket use fin to stabalized and guide itself?
@@jintsuubest9331 if I recall right, LOSAT uses altitude control motors to guide itself, not fins.
So your point is that it's full caliber APFS? That's what you call a rod?
@@TheArklyte
You can literally Google losat, and the first image shows up is tube with fin control surface at the rear.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is losat had an conventional alloy rod penetrator.
That's it.
Does the steel sheet contribute to the cap being torn off or this is simply how capped carbide shell will react to higher angle of impact?
Yes, it's duralumin, some APDS have heavy steel caps.
I would think the round would go through like it was nothing there but it gets almost totally destroyed 😮
the fragments retained over 90% of the core's energy
Totally random thought, what happens if you make a long rod apfsds from tungsten carbide?
it will penetrate a lot of homogeneous perpendicular armor, but it can be stopped very easily because it will shatter under less perfect conditions
Gaijin: That means hit.
I want to see YAMAYOgun v/s MBT armor.
It would be more interesting trying the same scenario but with a HEAT round.
I think a 120mm heat warhead would still win.
@@Treblaine of course it will, but i want to see how the box triggers the fuse
Noted
Someone got Gaijined
Isnt that abit One Sided? ZSU 57 has almost no chance surving 120mm Rounds let alone HE rounds
“hello everyone today we will be seeing if a 50 bmg can penetrate a piece of paper”🤣🤣
So, this would equal only around 34mm of armour, and the round got that mangled!?
the same projectile model will completely pass through 400 mm of armor.
Stahlhelm vs Shrapnell?
storage box did his best
Yes
But... why?
It almost stopped!
90% of the core's energy was retained in the fragments
Yeah that was never going to end well.
But will it explode
The conqueror didnt fire an explosive shell besides hesh.
doesnt need to be, that would start an ammo cook off right there@@HANGING_SILVER
@@jukeseyable my response was in an assumption that he was asking if the shell had an explosive filler or not.
I think it went thru
Please 50° cal or 30mm WW2 bullets on WW2 aircraft Wings
what if there was ammunition inside the box?
А если бы там были инструменты, или песок или щебень.
an empty storage box?
yeah what if it had era and composite armor inside
why did you do this?
it's kinda his thing
cause someone got gaijined
Нипрабииил!
Я думал не пробьёт
*Surprised Pikachu Face*
I don't think this one surprised anyone
>playing warthunder
I'm sorry. :(
