So at the beginning of the video you say that you have listed the icebreakers by length. Then why is the ship in position 1 shorter than the ship in position 2?
Because 129m is for 1977 Arktika, but 2016 Arktika is 173m. There is also Rossiya that is 203m, which is currently under construction, at some point was also called Arktika. Real mess these names.
@@katyusha1283 while that is true just having 2 ice breakers seems kind of less for nation with an artic cost line. A good number I think can be 6 , 2 for pacific, 2 for Atlantic and 2 in reserves
You forgot RRS -Boaty McBoatface- (RRS _Sir David Attenborough_ real name, though 'Boaty McBoatface' was the name the British public voted for, by 33.16% of the vote; alas it was not to be) Still, one of the newest and coolest ships that doubles up as an icebreaker, while also being a maritime survey and scientific research vessel, is the £200 million (GBP; at 2014 rates), 15,000 tonne, 128.9 metre long (423 feet) and technologically very advanced RRS _Sir David Attenborough_ for sure. It was built by Cammell Laird (a British shipbuilder in the UK) and is an all in one ship. While a research vessel primarily, it has improved icebreaking capabilities and is packed with expensive equipment. It is operated by the NERC (National Environment Research Council; a British research council which supports research and training in the Environmental Sciences) The ship has a range of 19,000 nautical miles (35,000 km; 22,000 miles) at 13 knots, an endurance of 60 days provisions for 28 crew plus 60 scientists (and 2 spare berths) RRS _Sir David Attenborough_ has a maximum speed of 17.5 knots (32.4 km/h; 20.1 mph) in open water and ability to break up to 1 metre (3.3 feet) thick level ice at a speed of 3 knots (5.6 km/h; 3.5 mph) There are also 2 helicopters and there is a capacity for approximately 900 cubic metres (32,000 cu ft) of cargo. The homeport shall be Port Stanley, in the British Falkland Islands. Acquired in December 2020, the research vessel is still undergoing sea trials but is clearly ready to go when this is done. I mean sure it's not specifically just an icebreaker but it is a ship that can be an icebreaker so it's multi-purpose. It was built for the British Antarctic Survey (itself part of NERC) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RRS_Sir_David_Attenborough P.S - 'Boaty McBoatface' would have been a cool name but yes the sensible option won.
Wtf you say that Arctica has a length of 5689 feet which is more than a mile long or almost four times the length of a super tanker. Your number two vessel has a listed beam of 898 feet or 364 feet longer than it's listed length which is 100 feet longer than the listed length of your number one vessel. I'm also confident that the number three vessels nuclear reactor doesn't have an output of 230,000 hp if it did this 20,000 ton ship would be way faster than 18 knots as an American Nuclear powered carrier has 280,000 shaft hp weighs over 100,000 tons and can go significantly faster than 30 knots. Finally your tenth ranked vessel has to weigh a lot more than 1800 tons at that length, beam and draft, I know this because I sailed on a 367 ft frigate while in the navy that only had a 42 ft beam and 15 ft draft but displaced 3,000+ tons.
7:23 "The length of this vessel is up to 5689 feet" Didn't know Russia was deploying mile long icebreakers now, not only the biggest icebreaker but the biggest ship of any kind ever built! Who knew? Methinks there was a typo that was missed, and the text-to-speech narrator of course just read it as written.

@@fredericdelmedico5251 yeah it is originally that for the Russian ships listed and the right flags for the other nations of the ships listed too, but they all suddenly change to the old British union flag at the time stamps I listed.
Russia will build several(5) Arctic icebreakers. China is also building its own icebreakers, but they have no access to the Arctic. Probably Russia will let them go there. Nuclear icebreakers also have floating nuclear power and can provide a lot of electricity to coastal areas or feed entire islands.
Quite often the info you are dictating doesn't match the data on the screen. Just a heads up! Awesome nonetheless! -Also the flags next to each ship seems to change countries at random.....
Positions 10-7 are probably not correct. For example, the Atle, Ymer and Frej in Swedish service have displacement of 9500 tons. The Oden has displacement of 11 000-13000 tons.
During ''Number 07, USCGC Polar Sea'' you say that she is fitted with 6 Alco diesel engines each generating 3000 Hp, and on the diagram (which shows only British flags for a moment at this point), it is written that her power is 3 x 25 000 Hp. Both are actually true. Polar Sea is what we call a CODLOG configuration, which is a ship that can be powered either with diesel engines or with gaz turbines. The diesel engine powers generators which in turns powers two electric motors that are connected to each shaft. The three gaz turbines are also connected to the two shafts via a complexe gear box system. The ship can only use one system or the other at one time (since it's a CODLOG. A CODLAG could use both systems at the same time). For cruising, diesel generators are preferred since they are way more efficient and easy to maintain. Gaz turbines on the other hand will provide more power and speed, which can be useful in tougher environment.
