Reg, I have these tyres now fitted for 2500km. Starting with the negatives, they are completely different in steering feel compared to MPSS. Very light steering almost too light I’d say, it almost felt like my car was jacked up when I drove the first meters from the tyre shop. But also came from worn down 3mm MPSS, hopefully the steering weights up a bit more and they wear. You have to get used to this first when starting to push the car. They are also quite comfortable, ridges are nicely absorbed and feel they are more polished out. Positives, loads of grip, I thing on the road with daily driving it’s very hard to push to the limit of these. Putting power down is going easily with stock power & LSD. I can floor it in the wet without DSC intervening. Car feels like on rails in the wet, strong braking as well. They look neat as well. Next time I might go for PS4 * codes ones or ND0 Porsche spec ones hopefully they have better steering feel. Cheers!
Thought about these to replace PS4S but chose all season Michelin Cross Climate2 so car totally secure and stable on the road all year round in the uk where have 🥶 and some snow that varies between little to a few feet.
I had factory fitted PSS* on my M240i which were bonkers in the dry but had to change as they hate cold temps! I was deciding between GY A6 and MPS5. I went for the MPS5s as one of "Mr Benson's" videos mentioned aquaplaning which I have experienced and was keen to avoid. In short, TO ME, the MPS5 felt quite a bit of a touring tyre compared to the MPSS. It was a great tyre re: grip and cold/wet but so much understeer and not very quiet and didn't feel "sporty". I put on GY A6s now and it's night & day - much quieter, more "sporty" feel and great sidewall protection- something the MPS5 lacks, as I found out last summer on a trip across to Bratislava and back. Just my "2 penneth", as I see most here drive the m14oi. Informative video. Thanks🎉👍
I’m very tempted to go back to GoodYear next time round to try the GY Supersports or A6’s. This comment makes me want to do that. Also it’s fun to try different tyres. Glad you’ve found a tyre that works well for you, and thanks for watching ! - Road Reg
Thanks Reg, great video. I was thinking of these for my M140i as still on the original supersports that came with the car from new in 2017. (Yes only done 12000 miles in 5.5 years) and I really do struggle for grip now even though I still have 5mm of tread. I was looking around for tyres and after your video will be getting these PS5's ordered this week. Thanks mate. Stay safe and well.
Get them - I went from the PSS to PS4 and now on PS5 on my 2017 M140i. For daily driving with some open road touring and maybe the occasional track day, they work beautifully. The original PSS used to set off DSC all the time in the wet. The PS4 and now the PS5, you have to be really be lighting it up to break traction.
I second that. My brother replaced the PSS on his M140i after 67000 kms and still tread left on the tire with the PS5, because of the time that passed since manufacturing. I drove the car on dry roads and i didnt feel any difference (except a little bit more traction at the starts), but he says the traction control intervention is greatly reduced, and in the wet the difference is abysmal, the PS5 is a much better tire (the low point of the PSS is wet driving, the car is barely drivable at best with that tire and even dangerous at times).
@@mshackleton1 you wont believe me, but no: still had some tread, but this year was a rainy season where my brother lived and he really noticed it driving the car, so he decided to change the tires
Great wet weather tyre definitely 👍 Have you had a chance to test also the GY Asym6 as a lot of people even prefer these slightly over PS5 (for same grip but a bit better lateral feedback)

I had Michelin PS5 on all corners of my Toyota Supra Mk5 and noticed that at 20k miles awful noise from the wheels ... when taking it to a garage they showed me that all four tyres had worn unevenly on the inside edges .. the tyres were essentially no longer round ... it was noticed that all four tyres has worn differently on the wear indicator areas ( 3 dot blocks) ... FYI .. alignment was spot on and car never driven hard or tracked. 20K is good for a set of tyres but with 5mm left it did mean that i still had to change them prematurely.
I just mounted the PS5 on my Mazda MX5 ND RF ex184hp. They look beautiful. I did not have much time to try those out yet. I hope i took the right choice. I am used to have Bridgestone.

Nice video. Was about to pull the trigger on some Asymmetric 6's, but this has got me thinking. Seat Leon Fr sport 2.0 TSI. So hardly a flying machine, but sporty enough to warrant some good tyres...
It is hard to push most tyres so hard to rank them on the street. Most ultra high performance tyres have similar performance. Sometimes slightly better in the wet or the dry, or better steering feel. The PS5 aren't designed to significantly outperform the PS4 dynamic performance, but they are designed to improve tyre life though. Considering how good the PS4 tyres are that isn't such a bad thing.
What does it say on the sidewall where the PS5 was made? The PS4 had 2 versions, a euro-made one with softer compound, and a Thailand-made PS4 with a harder and less grippy compound. Obviously the euro one was superior
I really want to move to this tyre next time around. I like to run one tyre that can do all things - wet weather, spirited drives and maybe a track day or two per year. Would you say they’re up to the task? I’ve got a stock power 240i with LSD and suspension.
If you’re planning doing a few track days with your M240i, I would rather run the GoodYear Eagle F1 Supersport. They wear better and are much more suited to track driving. The PS5’s will work on track, but I would go for the Goodyears in your case.
I haven't used the PS-5, but I have used the PS -4 and currently have Goodyear Assymetric 6. The Goodyears are much better, especially in the cold and damp.
Very nice interesting video Reg! Just food for thought, I have still a bit more than a year of BMW warranty so I will need to stick to my current MPSS *. I like the MPSS but it's an old tyre(introduced in 2011, with tyre knowledge the years before), I know from Jonathan Benson YT and a relative who works in the tyre industry that specially developed tyres such as * or ND Porsche tyres are completely different tyres than their non-marked variants, they are also developed on even more parameters. I recently saw that the fronts are available in MPS4 in * as well as in ND0, so I'm curious to try the * ones. I'm also curious to know the Traction, Temperature and Wear numbers and compare with the PS5's. No doubt the PS5's are good, I had PS4's on another car and it felt like driving on rails, especially in the wet. I heard the PS5 don't have super stiff sidewalls and they steer very light.. keep up the good work! Cheers!
£480 (~$600 USD) that seems like a deal. In the United States that size for the Pilot Sport 5 would run about $950 USD to install at Costco. For my car (BMW X5 45e) the cost was about $1250 USD
I just fitted my Mazda 3 with a set of PS5 and it ran me AUD $1256 (just for the tyres, not the fitting cost etc.). They were running a promotion $150 discount so I got it for AUD $1106. Expensive.
You guys in the UK don’t run winter tyres ? Than it’s quite clear to me you don’t like the PSS (in winter condition) as the PSS is one of the greatest tyres once it’s above 15c outside and dry, but cold & wet weather is not what PSS was designed for
I bought the michelin pilot sport 4s, anyone I know and see talking about it said its the best tyre for your daily car. The cup 2 is even better but I don't do any tracks so its a waste of money .
Just the video I was looking for. Currently still on the Super Sports and was wondering about switching to the PS5's. Not impressed with the Super Sports in the cold and wet.
I am all in dilemma is ps4s better i need tyre for comfort and probably 30% for performance i will be doing long journeys round EU and Uk summer BMW 535d Touring . What do you recommend? Thanks
@@Slm16Z PS5 has better comfort, PS4S better sport tyre Also Conti SC7 is a great sport tyre which you can also use as a daily (same as PS4S category, but newer/better tyre)
I found these tyres extremely noisy and only got worse as they got worn with a strange thrumming noise. Dry they were good but wet unfortunately not as good. They do wear better than the Pilot Sport 4 but got rid of them at 50% tread and got some Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 6 and they are definitely superior everywhere and bonus of softer riding and quieter. Very happy now.
I’m intrigued about the AS6’s. I love to try different tyres, and Goodyear are my second favourite tyre brand. I loved the Eagle F1 Supersports for feel and dry grip. Just didn’t cut it in the wet, but I need to maybe try them again.
not me with ps4s on my 180nm 318i lmaoooo, safe to say it's.... difficult to break traction. high power cars, low power cars, sticky tires make a world of difference
Hey Reg thanks for the video. I heard that ps series are not good for the first miles. They say that until tyres get warm enough they slide and it is impossible to stop without abs. What do you think about that ?
This is not true. I wouldn’t recommend going 70 miles an hour and doing emergency brake tests as it’s best practice to give the tyres at least 50 miles to bed in.
I feel less bad buying mps5 for my 645ci now instead of mps4s I will stick mps4s though on my e63s when the goodyear f1 supersports which i dont like much. I think the mps4s is probably a better tyre for that car
I changed from my Run Flats stock Good Year Eagle F1, just over a year ago to Michelin PS4s NRF, on my 540i...the difference is night and day, will stick with Michelins and never go back to Run Flats
I just ordered the PS5s for my A4, I hope I didn't choose badly. They were a little bit pricier than GY. I had in my old A3 Assymetric 3 and 5 and they were nice but wanted a change.
Currently running ps4 front ps5 rear on my 120d m sport (215/40/18 & 245/35/18) and all I can say is wow! Epic grip levels in dry and they give great confidence in wet conditions 👍🏻
Its true, but because the PSS is discontinued and the PS4S is not available in many countries in 18" (like mine, PS4S is 19" upwards) the PS5 is the only choice if you want to have a Michelin in your PSS equipped car. My brother had to do just that in his M140i. The good thing of the PS5 is that in the dry you do not lose much compared with the PSS, but you gain a lot of traction in wet conditions

They don’t make it in the correct size for the M140i, that’s why I had the 4’s, then the 5’s.
Maybe for track use over a PS4S but otherwise would you go out and buy a 10+ year old phone... old tyre tech is no different.
The 4s are available in 18”. Both 235 & 255 in 18. Rare, but available.
Thanks
Which size ?
PS5 is more quiet, more fuel efficient, a bit better in the wet
PS4S has better steering feel and better heat performance
@@vollcare4076 245/40/19
Definitely PS5’s if you can get them!
@@Slm16Z PS5 has better comfort, PS4S better sport tyre
Also Conti SC7 is a great sport tyre which you can also use as a daily (same as PS4S category, but newer/better tyre)
On my s3 3 years out of them. With a few 1000 km left on them...
They’re brilliant aren’t they. I bet you have epic grip with the S3 and those PS5’s
not me with ps4s on my 180nm 318i lmaoooo, safe to say it's.... difficult to break traction. high power cars, low power cars, sticky tires make a world of difference
I feel less bad buying mps5 for my 645ci now instead of mps4s
I will stick mps4s though on my e63s when the goodyear f1 supersports which i dont like much. I think the mps4s is probably a better tyre for that car
I've got the PS5 on my Citroën C5 2.0 16v with 143HP. It never lacks any grip! ;) Wonderfull tyre with lots of grip even in the wet!
That sounds like so much fun!!
@@roadreg1820 a C5 that weights more than 1600kg with 143hp is not very fun to drive. More very comfortabele 🙃
@Immortal you will also be fine with the Primacy 4😀
@Immortal I'd go ps5 just for that extra wet weather magic.. the primacy 4+ is good as well but extra grip is extra grip.
Michelin primacy would have been more appropiate for a 143HP C5 to be honest. It's not a sport car, it needs tourism tyres
Bought these to go on my 86. Currently on ps4. Amazing how high inflation is if you bought for £480 8 months ago and I paid £560 today.
depends on tyre size, I can get them fitted right now for £420 on a 225/40/18.
What psi were you using cheers
To be honest, I can’t remember what I was running when I filmed the video, as it was a while ago, however I normally run about 34 front and 36 rear.
@@roadreg1820 appreciate your reply cheers.having some fitted very soon
I changed from my Run Flats stock Good Year Eagle F1, just over a year ago to Michelin PS4s NRF, on my 540i...the difference is night and day, will stick with Michelins and never go back to Run Flats
I just ordered the PS5s for my A4, I hope I didn't choose badly. They were a little bit pricier than GY.
I had in my old A3 Assymetric 3 and 5 and they were nice but wanted a change.
I'm sold buying these for my f40
@@OneMadZomb1e Great decision!
I didn't like the PS4 at all on my tuned f22, they were replaced with Goodyear SS which are a lot better.
Interesting. The GY’s are better in the dry, and more sporty feeling. The PS4 is better for all year round, in my opinion. On a RWD car anyway!
i just went from the ps4 to 5s on my st.only dne hundred miles or so but can tell already they are better
Currently running ps4 front ps5 rear on my 120d m sport (215/40/18 & 245/35/18) and all I can say is wow! Epic grip levels in dry and they give great confidence in wet conditions 👍🏻
Very nice ! Yeah they are truly epic. Enjoy man 👍😁
Currently running runflats 😩
“I trust bmw for that” - im sure bmw are grateful for your endorsement.
I’m sure they are too.
Take it on the track go all out
Great review, just sub to your channel
Thanks, Ian! 😊
Yes, it's gold standard, but I go for bitcoin (Yokohama ad09)
Top Top !
Not sure what has happened since this video, but these tyres on black circles are almost £600, nowhere near the price you quoted.
Yeah I bought them a while ago. Everything has gone up.
Got four tyres for 664 today and that's after a 10% discount!
@@shahjaa4944 where?
they just need a 5s now.
i think its been a mistake what you have paid. its £137 for front (fitted) and £183 for the backs (fitted) and i have looked everywhere even blacks..
I ordered them last spring.. prices have changed a bit. It was roughly around what I said 😁
@@roadreg1820 i found them for £550 fitted not to bad and i can say they are the best tyres i have had.
He may of bought a deal... ats have just done mine at £517
naahhh bro too soft sidewall for me the ps4 makes the car much more nimble
Do you mean 4S?
No the conventional 4
The ps5 is not a performance tyre like pss or ps4s.
It gets pretty close.
Put these on my MX5 and they arent a patch on the 4's,really pissed off with them, absolute garbage, way less grip on the wet and dry compared to the 4's and the handling is worse, stay clear
You could do with a haircut Reginald 😀
I got one 😎
@@roadreg1820 Seriously though good video thanks Reg will need to try the PS5. I still have PSS
@@davidbolton8573 Thanks Dave, appreciate it. Once your SS’s have fun out, it’s definitely time for the some PS5’s. You’re in for a treat!
Good video reg... can you comment on what tyre pressures you run for road use?
@@roysmyth4284 34psi front and 36psi rear I find works well. Tyres wear even 👍
If you own a golf R he doesn't like you 😉
Hehe. I just like to tease the Golf R community. It’s fun to have a bit of competition. Makes things exciting 😎
There is no t in Michelin
@@krugmeup2162 thanks for pointing that out 👌
'Promo sm' 😣
Hu? No I paid for these myself. Literally
IS THE PS5 just as soft as the PS4 ? garbage tyre the ps4 is..
Slightly harder. The PS4 is good 👍
@@roadreg1820 i have the ps4 , never again , floats like a boat, awfull input . + are longevity , good thread life but if you want sporty drive i dislike them. Mounted on bmw 130i btw
