- Photography Clichés, they're everywhere, but these five 'done to death' photo ideas should be avoided at all costs. They might seem original, but believe me when I say they have been done since the dawn of time. Avoid the Cliché trap. Set them to memory, then lock them in room 101 nevere to be seen again.

Well done, you've just allowed me to continue trying to train UA-cam not to show me poncy channels trying to be funny.
Let me get this straight, you are trying to train UA-cam not to show you channels like mine, by clicking on and watching my video? Not sure that’s how it works 😁
I loved this video. A man talking about cliches who is also sporting a handlebar mustache asking us to "smash" the subscribe button. Layers of humor and irony. Clever!
I will say this on a serious note regarding urban (or even rural) decay shots: I love making them and love looking at them. I have often heard other serious photographers pan the genre. But I wonder how they are any different from the beloved and revered human portrait? It seems to me they are perfectly analogous in that they are a single subject matter genre, everyone attempts them, most of them are mediocre or poor...........but when done well they are sublime. And doing them well is quite hard.
George, thanks for commenting. I had rather hoped that folks would land on my photography channel for photography advice, but looks like you are after fashion tips. Well I’m going to have to up my game 😆. Seriously though, I will be framing your comment though; in twenty years of schooling I was never once called clever. Thankyou, it’s made my day 🤭
@@rileyphotos I couldn't grow that mustache even if I wanted to...and now I kind of want to!
Brilliant! Laughing out loud. You know what? I have to watch it again. Thank you!
Fantastic!
I really miss the variations of people holding sky scrapers, the london bridge, or anything else touristy.
Long exposure -car lights, waterfalls, clouds …….
How did I miss waterfalls, ha ha 😆😆😆
Thanks for the laugh!
Any time!
Schindler’s List never feels cliche.
Steven Spielberg was genius to show us a child full of life in a red coat in a monochrome film , and then shock us when a cart of dead bodies wheeled past with the red coat on. Incredible story telling making the viewer recognise the child we had seen earlier and a very moving way. Comparing that to a clumsy black and white image containing a red phone box or double decker bus is an interesting take on it. Not one I would have made, but hey, we’re all different.
But (peeling off a couple of layers)... when is a 'Cliché!!!' not a cliché?
I’d don’t know, when is a cliché not a cliché?
@@rileyphotos It's only because you got me thinking about it. Obviously - nothing about the mere 'fact' of a cliché that makes it a 'bad' photo (ie technically / comp etc). It's about content more than anything. But, that content can, under the right circumstances, convey something important about the world. I suppose it's also a truism that a cliché is a cultural (or sub-cultural) construct, and that one person's banal is another's moment of enlightenment - so, context and audience matter as much as content (perhaps). Etc.
Brilliant. I just wish I had a bucket of popcorn and some fizzy pop by my side, as I sit back and await the torrent of outrage, when the offended individuals respond, with a barrage of harrumphs. 🤣
Should've added woman in bikini on train tracks. When I first started, I did that shot. She was in a full gown though.
Still, I cringe nowadays. LOL
Cliche? Like that UA-cam intro video that looks like mit came from Fiverr?
Thankyou for the content creator advice Mike, much appreciated 👍🏻 I was hoping for photographer’s comments but UA-cam guru’s are also welcome 😁
