  • This was the last time up to The Tent before the 2018 Deer Hunting opener. We moved my Dads stand. Put up Zachary's new stand. Cut down the dead birch in the Tent yard. Set up the ground blind. Sighted in the deer rifles.This was a very busy trip up to The Tent.

    Always entertaining to watch and so professional. I'm 88 now and feeling it, so this takes me back to happy days in the woods. But I don't
    know if I could have driven all those miles even when I was in my prime. I'd like to be up north with you but my old bones now need these balmy Florida days down here in St Augustine, 75s, and sunny almost every day. Good luck with the deer and all the best to your family.

    I posted on one of your previous videos that it was 'time' to see Father and Son together at The Tent. So, you can only imagine how awesome it was to see not only that, but you captured quality family time with three (3) generations! #ThatsGoodStuffRightThere

    Pork steak at 9:52, Polka at 33:31. Now I can just relax and enjoy the visit. I think Winter would be the coziest time up there. Maybe try some chili (if you’re alone).

      Yar Nunya: you will notice I made absolutely no reference to “properly” prepared chili. I suspect that you are one of those folks (generally, but not always, from Texas) that thinks it is a sacrilege to add beans to the recipe. If that’s true you can have all you want and even go to a movie. Lol!

    Great video. I used to hunt with my Father as well but I sadly lost my Dad this year, enjoy this time with your Father, memories will be forever.
    For approx. 8yrs, I've successfully hunted from a ground blind. For the really cold days, I use a small propane heater where I can stay for hours. To help with noise, I also place a rubber runner on the floor of the blind. A ground blinds worst enemy is strong winds, I've lost one. I always use at least one stronger stake, I use one "cork screw" dog tie out, get them from a dollar store.

You have a great relationship with your kids and you are blessed to still have your father around. Joe , as a general rule , you do not touch a barrel with anything, a fence posts , a finger , nothing, just touching a barrel while shooting can change the point of impact as much as six inches at one hundred yards. Especially in the middle area, and especially on the bottom.

    Watch you relocate your dad treestand. Deer dont usely look up but they do look straight ahead. Stand back 50 to 75 yards and look straight ahead in directions of tree stand. If dad move deer could pick up. I like putting blinds on tree line , this way you have cover behind you so you blend in. Just my thought . Love the tent love you tube

    I'll just share with you how i do this .. Loose scope bases or rings but most of the time it's the bases .. I use Loc-Tite (BLUE) which is thread -lock which means if you ever wanted to removed the screws later on you can.. It doesn't take very much of it on each screw to do the job.. Like on your model rifle where i would say by what you show the play is in the bases not the rings .. Remove one base screw at a time after you first removed the scope , clean the screw threads (several good cleaners are on the market for that task) apply one drop of Loc-Tite to the threads and screw it back in firmly .. Go on to the next screw until you have all 4 done.. I have handgun barrels (3) that all have a scope mounted and over the years now nothing has become loose not even the hardest kicker i own..It's an excellent product .. 9 years later and the scope is right on every time i target the gun on paper ..This might help you.. Loc-Tite is a great product that works very well..

    Joe how come you don't brush in that blind. It kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. Down here in Iowa we brush them in and a person that doesn't know a blind is there wouldn't see it. Another question.... do you pur the skirting on your ladder stands for concealment or for protection from the elements? That's another thing we don't do down here. We just sit in them in the open even while in our orange for shotgun deer season. Good luck this season!!!

    • @JoeandZachSurvival
      @JoeandZachSurvival  6 років тому +2

      That ground blind will only be there a short time. No one would ever steal anything so I do not worry about that at all. The deer will be used to it. The skirts are used concealment and to protect from the elements. For me it is mainly for concealment.

    Man I love watching you videos. Im out bowhunting our 600 acres in Wisconsin now. Last night at 6pm I shot what I consider a giant. It was an 8pt around 150 class deer. But I hit a branch and the shot deflected and I hit him far forward. Watched him bed and waited 5 hours before going into the woods at 11pm. Only reason I went in the woods before morning was it started to rain. I had the farmer come out with his blood tracking dog and after 4 more hours the dog lost the bloodtrail and it got dark so we stopped looking. I am so wrought with guilt i don't think Im going to hunt anymore this year.. The deer here are already chasing.. tons of open scrapes and 7 different big bucks on camera.

      Put the potatoes on the grill 20 minutes before the steaks right over the coals while the coals are burning and turning to ash. Put the steaks on at about 20 minutes because they will take about 15 minutes with the top closed. Take and squish the potatoes between your fingers and if they squish they are done if they are still hard they will need a little more time.

      Yes I did and I use it sometimes but water up there is very iron stained so I still like to bring up water and use the well when I run out.

      If I went anywhere and did nothing I would go crazy. I actually slept pretty good when I was up there this time and for me to do that I have to exhaust myself out during the day.

    Ever thought about foodplots?

    • @johnroos5807
      @johnroos5807 4 роки тому

      I don't think Joe can have food plots, because it National Forest Land. Joe only has 10 acres that he owns. He hunts a few miles away. Semper Fidelis
