Is ROMA a Masterpiece? "Golden Age" Mexican Cinema has answers

In this lecture, we demystify Alfonso Cuarón's 2018 semi-autobiographical film ROMA and the problems with its representation of Indigenous Mexican women. By looking at the legacy of "Golden Age" Mexican Cinema and how it used the stories of indigenous women alongside the aesthetics of Mestizaje to celebrate nationalism, we dig deeper to understand what ROMA's big wins at the Oscars mean.
