There's a book series I think you'd enjoy Sent, if you like reading that is.
It's called Wearing the Cape by Marion G. Harmon.
It is set in our modern day for the most part and is set around something called "The Event." After the mysterious Event some people who experienced intense traumatic experiences gain super powers based on their personal traits, like their fight or flight instinct. It goes into super detail about things like why they wear the bright costumes and what role they play in society.
I'm not sure why but I just felt like suggesting it to you.
It's a story following a single main character and her journey as a new Cape but the level of detail Harmon puts into this is astounding and it makes it feel much more real
