yeah, it's a drag the bonus songs are only available in the vinyl box set, but they have said they will be released (i think i read some time in december, but i can't recall). i am sure if you look hard enough, you could find them, though i do not condone that type of illicit behavior. :D

Quite the gift and nice to have the wife’s backing on your passion for the band! Me and my girlfriend (my wife now) saw The Red Hot Chili Peppers November 29th 1991 in Chicago during their “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” tour- a couple of up and coming bands opened the show: Pearl Jam (having just released “Ten”) and Smashing Pumpkins (promoting “Gish”). Instant fan and loyal ever since. Enjoy that box set and let us know your thoughts on the exclusive tracks when you have a chance.

holy cow! that must have been an amazing show. i have seen rhcp, pearl jam, and smashing pumpkins all separately at different times throughout the last 3 decades, but never all at the same time, and not that early in their careers. thank you for sharing that memory.

@@pez7031 crazy how much the cost of concerts (and everything really) has changed. i have all of my concert tickets (including things like setlists or picks when i was lucky enough to get those) in a big scrapbook and i recently re-organized it and started making small notes next to each one where appropriate. my wife and i sometimes look through it and reminisce and started noticing that we forget a bit more about some of the concerts each time we talk about it. so she had the great idea of typing out the memories of each show (quite an undertaking considering the amount of concerts we have been to together and separately). so i have been spending some time calling up friends who went with me to a particular show and we just reminisce together while i type a bunch of notes about each concert. that ended up being a massively fun exercise and something we all really enjoyed. but in terms of the ticket prices, when i go back and look at some of those early tickets from the 90s and see the ticket prices, i always gasp. like, $10 to see L7 or Helmet w/ The Melvins at a club? holy cow! those tickets would cost 4 to 5 times that now most likely. but considering cost of living now, i understand. i'm just glad i don't make $4.25 an hour anymore so i can afford to still go to see some of these bands every once in a while.

oh same here. if anything i have expanded my palette and now it just seems like there is TOO MUCH great music that i have trouble consuming it all and giving it the attention i feel it deserves. like, i can't remember the last time i bought an album and just fell into it and couldn't stop playing it over and over and over again for months like i did for things like Mellon Collie, Tool's Ænima, anything by Nirvana. i mean, i used to devour albums because let's be honest, as kids/teenagers, we only had so much money and the ability to consume music was so different in the 90s. we couldn't just sample whatever we wanted whenever we wanted. man, today is so different. i almost wish i didn't have so many options so i could really soak in a handful of really good ones. not complaining, i guess, just yearning for that feeling more.

    What an awesome present!
Presentation/box set of a great "product"
I too, began to hear all the (in my experience at least -post Teargarden) smashing pumpkins releases under a new light .
Perhaps (and again, this is only how I personally choose to view the fandom waxing+ waning), I was mourning what I had falsely believed to be the death of what was once my favorite band- my all-time favorite ROCK band, and when JEFF became the longest mainstay member, and with another JC departure too THE ONLY Member other than Billy- and with not an inkling of a reunion, nary a James in sight.... I mean, am I really to be blamed for this?
These are reasonable thoughts. Thanks to the band for making wonderful work well into their 30th year as a band, and I encourage all to give it a chance with open ears and open hearts and open minds, but because of the tumult and demise of consistency, I feel like I'm not sure we can actually blame anyone for prematurely writing them (the IP of 'Smashing Pumpkins' itself) off.
That being said while it does look wonderful I don't know if it's worth however much money in your wife paid and I was too a fan of the podcast and checked out the zuzu's website that had this for sale...
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it in the 500 dollar price range?
Ok, like, you can get your own vinyl pressing MADE for that kinda scratch
    Yeowch!
    Still, thanks for showing this.
I eagerly await to hear the other nine songs on UA-cam, I hope, that is, if they're not already leaked ..
Other than scimitar, which was originally called photograph I thought, which was written and captured live at the performance/benefit for the victims of the Highland (or is it Hylan?) Park shooting over the July 4th weekend parade in 2022.
    So sad
    Anyway, good song
Couldn't justify dropping ½ a G just to hear nine more songs (I've never been one to care about autographs... Nor do I even have a turntable)
So with that a sincere thank you for your video
    And upload.
    One caveat,
Halfway through though I just didn't know if I could keep up with your exasperated energy level. I was SERIOUSLY like can get just TONE IT DOWN A BIT.
Your excitement was incendiary and palpable
    THROUGH THE ROOF
    bring it down a notch
    Your uninhibited nature was unparalleled!
    Ha.
    But I digress...
    But I mean it, thanks.

Maybe it would be worth it if we're any good. Beguiled is the only track I have heard that I like so far. I will be listening to more soon so maybe I speak to hastily. As long as you love the album that's all that matters. Loved Siamese Dream and the follow up some of the songs but after the first 3 albums I lost interest. I was 23 in 93 and right out of college so likely why the absolute love of the album and it was killer.

There are plenty of good tracks on that album. Only problem is many of them are ruined by terrible intros and Billy's voice being emphasized at odd moments. If they cut the album down to 11 or 12 tracks and removed some of those awful intros, it would be a great album. As it stands right now, I'd only give it a 7 out of 10 at most.

    • @wlayneh
      @wlayneh  Рік тому

i mean, that's all relative, right? i might say "hell yeah!" and the next guy might say "this is the worst!". i personally enjoyed it as a whole body of work with a story backing it up. but if i never listened to the entire podcast and gotten a ton of context from billy himself, would i feel the same? perhaps not. but realistically, will i really ever have the time as a functioning working adult to ever set aside 2+ hours to listen to the whole thing in one sitting again? probably not. so if i was shuffling all music on my phone for instance, and a song from this album came up, i would say there is a 50% chance i would most likely skip the track, but it also depends on the track and my mood! sorry, i just can't commit to a straight answer. :)

see? here's someone that says it sucks! and others in the these comments say they like it. it's the almighty opinion. the only way YOU know for sure if it is any good is if you just make some time to listen to the whole thing and decide if YOU like it. because in reality, when we look at our own relationship to music, it is what moves us . not what someone else says we should or shouldn't like, am i right?

I would have put some b-sides and rarities tracks on Melon Collie instead of some of the songs on the album, but it wouldn't be the track list others would have made.
