      @@ISawABear That, would be cool. I'd definitely switch my movie Watch Party stream for this. Might just be for ~4hrs but yes. I'm guessing though that they would prefer the live views. That said, it might bring new people into the YT channel especially if Twitch broadcasters would 'spam' the links of both the regular video channel and the special D-Day one.

    The fact that youtube itself is not supporting this show is madness. This is a magnificent example of what youtube creators are able to create. It would be great publicity and cost very little compared to the ressources they have.

      Agree with the sentiment, but it’s a good thing UA-cam isn’t directly footing the bill. If they did they would likely also want editorial influence and that would have been really bad.

    The biggest problem with history is that we know what happened next. We never realize that the people involved had no idea if it would work or not. Every man on that beach KNEW he was probably going to get killed or captured. And they charged anyway.

    The gargantuan task of WW2 alone is nothing short of mind boggling. The fact that you guys hit all the nooks and crannies inbetween with espionage, war crimes, home front, etc, ON TOP of other wars is nothing short of amazing. To the entire team; Thank you for covering all of this. It's amazing to see how these things unfold as it did over 70 years ago.

    I have to donate. My great-grandfather on my mother's side was a medic at the D-Day landings. He was at Omaha. I can't even begin to imagine what that day must have been like.

    My neighbor's father who passed away a few years ago was a day or two after D-Day (he couldn't remember), but he remembered having to wait in the water for hours to finally get on the beach, while the bodies of those who had fallen floated past him. I asked him if he would do it again and he said "Yes, of course, my country needed me". The Greatest Generation

      In comparison we had a Armour Brigade move cities in a Parade and there were dozen of complaints mostly saying " Is this show of force necessary" . Wars are forgotten in 3 generations

    My great grandpa was a soviet soldier in ww2. He worked with recon in a mechanized battalion. He enlisted in 1941 at 18 years old and survived the whole war. He fought from the battle of moscow to the balkans and he was in the battle of Berlin.

    I owe so much to the few family members that participated in the Second World War that it's hard to describe. My father in law landed in Normandy in a glider as a medic and got the bronze star for his actions at Bastogne during the battle of the Bulge; a cousin was on Corregidor when it fell to the Japanese in 1942 and spent until 1945 as a POW: i had another cousin die in France just after the war ended (he tripped an uncleared mine) and another cousin, recently discovered, was killed on Saipan. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for presenting this great story.

    Thank you for making this series. My Granddad was a B17 pilot in late 43 to mid 44 and flew many missions in support of DDay. I have really enjoyed the ramp up to the series and look forward to seeing the finished product.

    I'm glad you guys aren't compromising how you publish your works with what the UA-cam's algorithm and various parasitic sponsors demand you do. So many creators fall into peer pressure because they can't afford to say "Boo" to these ever changing (for the worse) goalposts. Even if for the specials you did eventually bite the bullet you still have very reasonable standards for your channel, so I haven't left the Timeghost Army. I may even consider doing a pledge for this project as you asked.

      He planned and led the North African invasion, he had a much better plan than Monty for the Sicilian I invasion. He was by far the best Allied general to lead it.

    D-day the battle of meteorology! The allied meteorologist found a weather hole, the Germans didn’t and their high command took some R&R. Not that it was the one winning factor but it sure mattered.

    This channel is a resource, and a way of presenting history, that is really unprecedented. In the future it will be available to all for free. Long after Indy and Co. are gone this series will live on, just like the deeds of all those who fought and lived thru the war will continue to echo in eternity (sorry for the Gladiator reference).     My husband was born june 6 1984 we will be watching during cake and presents.
    Only fitting as DDay is one of the reasons my husband and I were born in a free country. ( well relatively free , we live in Canada, but that's for historians in the future to talk about)

    My wife's Aunts husbands Jake Satterfield. Mountainburg Arkansas. Was part of force building mulberry walls. He helped build it on the the Thames and literally lived on it. Towed over to Normandy days after initial invasion. He described to me after they arrived they were tasked to collect remains of of the dead. No drama here but can anyone now comprhend?

    My Cousin Phillip Turgel was shot down in a Lancaster over Holland LM-320. He was just 22. A Squadron Leader 100 Squadron.

    79 years ago this week, according to his letters home, my great-uncle Lt Harvey Burnard was in southern England awaiting orders. In his first letter after D-Day he wrote he was anxious to join the “excitement” in France.

      He sent home a few more letters & got his wish a few weeks later when he was sent into combat with his Canadian Army platoon. He wrote about looking forward to celebrating Paris’s liberation. But a adly he was mortally wounded near Caen in late July 1944.

    Churchill and Roosevelt told Stalin that the invasion “would be possible” by August 1, 1944, but that no decision had yet been made to name a supreme commander. To this latter point, Stalin pointedly rejoined, “Then nothing will come of these operations. Who carries the moral and technical responsibility for this operation?” Churchill and Roosevelt acknowledged the need to name the commander without further delay. Shortly after the conference ended, Roosevelt appointed Gen. Dwight David Eisenhower to that position.

    Indi I still remeber as a joke searching for your ww2 series after I finished the Great War and seeing the 1 first episode that had been released round 5 years ago.       One time I binge watched the entire Great War series with no breaks. Only to sleep. I listened to much of it while driving.
      I still go back and watch some of the more action-filled weeks like Operation Michael, 1st Marne, and the first time they tried going "over the top" (can't remember the battle name)

    I'm thrilled about the new D-Day special but at the same time I can't help but feel a bit sad to see the huge strain that it seems to bring on you guys. It's evident that you don't have any spare time and ressources to do much else at the moment, no WAH, no specials, no Spies&Ties, no Homefront... I wish we could have both but we don't live in a perfect world and you guys are no superheroes :) I give you my best, keep up the amazing work !

    I don't have a budget to fund a whole memorial about my grandfathers* in the coming end-of-August and/or September episodes, but I can definitely spare a few bucks to support you in your terrific work. I hope we (the Time Ghost Army) can make it happen.
    * In the Slovak National Uprising, one was part of the uprising army, wounded and evacuated by plane to the USSR, the other was a policeman (gendarmerie) of the Slovak State, which he joined to avoid being sent to the Eastern front with the Slovak Expeditionary Army Group. They never met during the war, only years later, when my parents got engaged.

    During Covid I unfortunately had to stop my regular subscription with TimeGhost because of the craziness of employment at the time. However, things are turning around and I happily just dropped 250 for you guys!
    I have so many memories of sitting at my grandfather's and great uncle's feet listening to them recount their time in Europe as a B-17 bombardier and tank mechanic racing to Berlin with Patton respectively. I really wish they were still alive so we could have enjoyed this content together. They would have been huge supporters of what you do here.

    Just donated $10 the very same I give to Wikipedia every year because you guys are just as great of a resource! Which My Great Grandpa was raising my Grandma on my father's side who was born around the same time as the battle of midway. So he did not fight in the war but instead helped ensure humanity had a future which my grandma would later go deliver the pay for the sailors blockading Cuba during that crisis. So my family has never been warriors but we've always been there somewhere.

    I have learned so much from the personal comments posted to the videos of this show. Many of them have provided the context of what the men of my boyhood had faced in the decade before I was born, what they had faced and what had shaped them. It just seem so natural then, that almost all the men of the neighborhood were veterans of the Armed Forces in World War II, even some of World War I, and of Korea. My teachers, my uncles, my friends fathers, my friends older brothers.
    And of the houses of older couples who had lost their sons.

    Watching your videos has become a weekly ritual. I just wanted to say it's amazing what you guys have produced, I'm still a poor student unable to join the TimeGhost army but thank you for what you have created. I grew up on war docs and movies with my grandad (I remember him building legos with me during the live coverages of the Iraq war) and through watching this every week is how I stay close to him even though he's gone.
    I discovered you when you started creating the ww1 series and my knowledge and love of military history has compounded ever since - through it falling in love with Sabaton too!

    All the support to you guys! Definitely an amazing achievement of recording and telling history to younger audiences that they may learn from experiences of older generations. On reflection, it is sad and a pity to see that today, those victorious united nations are at each others throats, whether in direct armed conflict (West vs. Russia in Ukraine) or in geopolitical turf war (West vs. China) threatening and risking another global conflict.

    I enjoyed the cats on vacuum cleaners. Can we have some more of those videos? Astrid laughing was always fun. As well as the Patton hoodie I bought a while back might chuck in a few extra bucks to see the D-Day spesh through. But don't forget to back up your videos to laser disc, cos UA-cam might not always be around, but laser disc will never die. I suppose you'll also need some money to buy laser discs, and to burn the laser discs (do you burn laser discs or do you flash them?), and a bunker in the arctic circle to build a vault to store them in... and have you looked at getting charitable status so our contributions can be tax deductible.

    My entire family owes the Allies thanks. We likely wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for D-day and the second front.
    This project and all the other projects you develop and publish are so important for future generations to be aware of, so that they know what happened 70-odd years ago and are aware of the sacrifices made by so many to make sure freedom survived.
    Of course I will contribute! And shame on UA-cam for staying quiet here!

    Though my family history in the war was more pacific based (Australian after all. Grandfather was 3rd Battalion Infantry in Papua New Guinea and his cousins were in different units in the area) I have always appreciated the work you and the team put in each and every week.

    One fun bit of trivia I’ve heard is that Eisenhower believed this would be his Pickett’s charge: A glorious, massed attack with all kinds of firepower…horribly planned and doomed to fail. If you don’t know what I’m talking about Pickett’s charge was the highlight of the third day of the battle of Gettysburg in the U.S. civil war. A lot of legendary moments on both sides in that battle, but one of them was what happened on the last day. If you don’t know about it you should look it up!

    AND after the Dieppe Raid turned into an unmitigated disaster

      Dieppe certainly gave pause for thought. It was hardly a crack German division that guarded the coast there, many of the soldiers were Poles and only technically German, and a lot of scratch naval units were also involved. Basically sailors issued a carbine and sent to fight a land battle. Yet it was an Allied disaster.

    In US usage, "combined operations" means more than one nation is involved and "joint operations" are more than one US service (Navy and Army). I began studying D-Day around 1965 when I first saw "The Longest Day" but I didn't get to study that program until I got on active military duty (1975 to 1979 in the Marines, 1980 to 1989 in the Army). In the Marines I took a correspondence course in amphibious warfare and in the Army I got to see the command, control, communications, logistics and information gathering pieces of D-Day. Still haven't made it to Normandy--probably won't because I'm getting old. I did spend a few weeks in England touring museums and museum ships and looking over the potential battlefields--and by that time the Home Guard Auxiliary Units had started to become public knowledge.
    My studies convinced me that Germany couldn't have successfully invaded England in 1940--or anytime after. Just look at D-Day and the coordination of guerrillas, spies, saboteurs, the entire USSR, sewing up the Med and occupation of half of Italy, a second amphibious assault through Southern France several weeks later, and a massive air campaign that removed the Luftwaffe threat from France. Germany was facing "England alone" but had to contend with inferiority at sea, an ad-hoc amphibious fleet, insufficient parachute and glider troops, very limited air landing assets due to shortage of transport aviation, and worst of all was the fact that Germany had insufficient intelligence preparation of the battlefield. Not even Adolf Hitler had expected to decisively defeat the "Best Army in the World," France, in six weeks. During my D-Day studies I found that French soldiers performed well, but suffered from the same fatal flaw that afflicts the American war machine--French politicians controlled the military. Flag grade officers are politicians--that's the result of their selection process.
    A German D-Day from May 1940 to August 1940 would not have been possible due to zero preparation for crossing the English Channel--despite successful campaigns in Norway and Denmark and Crete. There was a narrow window when Germany might have tossed three or four divisions with limited heavy equipment across the channel, from about August to October 1940--but if Churchill or his successor didn't surrender within two weeks of German landings, the isolated German forces would have found themselves cut off with no possible resupply. London in the fall and winter of 1940 would have resulted in a German defeat much like Stalingrad. There was sound reasons for defeating the Royal Air Force, especially Fighter Command, during the summer of 1940--even though 2/3rds of RAF aircraft were bombers and 1/3rd were fighters (with rounding errors swallowing the auxiliaries). The RAF and Luftwaffe were more evenly matched than advertised. For example, bombers were supposed to fly unescorted bombing missions, until real world warfare demonstrated that unescorted bombers were easy prey for enemy defensive fighters. Another issue was both the RAF and Luftwaffe starved maritime aviation (Coastal Command and the Fleet Air Arm in Britain) due to the Douhet dogma infecting both air services--the limited resources went to bomber aviation against tactical land targets and "strategic city busting" terror raids. One reason why the Fleet Air Arm had so many Martlets (Grumman Wildcats in British service) and Avengers was that those Lend-Lease aircraft were superior carrier aviation--it takes time and resources and priority to come up with good carrier aviation. If Japan had an independent air force instead of two air forces there's every chance that Pearl Harbor would have been impossible to pull off.
    "What if" is a fun exercise. "What happened" is more difficult because of "national security" and senior commanders hiding their errors (D-Day succeeded because Hitler was a stinker!) and diplomatic secrets and the tendency of us little boys to ignore the roles of logistics and intelligence when there are mighty battleships, thundering tanks, flashing fighters, and lots of big bangs. Operation Sea Lion went from zero to not-quite-ready in a matter of a few weeks. Operation Overlord was the result of four years planning and preparation, including standing up the world's largest industrial economies to produce copious quantities of war materials while waging total war on Germany and attiring German forces, smashing the German economy, even compelling German staff officers to stage a coup (that failed miserably). The events of D-Day during June 1944 demonstrated why Operation Sea Lion was a failure from the first order to begin planning a cross-channel invasion of England.

    It's so true: One of the most poignant scraps of paper in history is the communique that Eisenhower would have released if Overlord had failed. In it, Ike credits the efforts of everyone and takes all the blame for the catastrophe.
