I would like to think you you explained how to use this so easy. After watching your tutorial on using the osmo had it down in 5 minutes. With Jim’s tutorial I spent hours trying to just draw with the osmo. I’ve ben doing art sense 1970. And this app. Is absolutely the greatest. I’ve been working on a beautiful painting and I did finely get a monarch butterfly drawn after several hours of trying. Took 10 minutes. Last night I after watching your video I drew a bumblebee the size of a bumblebee. Which is rather small. I work on a lot of MDF 3/16 then apply that to my canvas after I cut it out with my scroll saw. I putting a blade the size of a hair on my scroll saw now to cut the bumblebee out hope fully as the lines are as small as a pencil line , such as legs, and antenna. Hope the vibrations of the saw does break them. See a lot of great work on here with colors and such if you could do a tutorial on that ,I’m sure it would be very helpful. You have a great way of explaining. Thanks again Jeep
Hi, I've just stumbled on your video about this app (entirely new to me). Can you please explain the purpose of that little 'osmo' device that you place on your tablet? Also, is the same app available for a Windows-based product (I've a laptop), or otherwise an Amazon fire tablet? I'm old & pretty analogue, as you can probably guess!
OSMO is a mirror that clips onto the ipad to enable you to draw with the ipad in front of you - you will see your drawing hand and the image you are drawing overlayed. The app only runs on a iphone (apple) or ipad. I have a whole load of videos showing you how to draw anything using the ipad and osmo 👍
Thank you sir. I do have one question. Looking at your video.. let's choose the coffee cup on your desk. If I take a photo if it on my iPad and then want to render it either Larger or smaller.. to a pretty precise size.. What is the process for doing that? Is it part of the Cosmo or is it done on the iPad? Thank you..
Hi Bill, before you go into draw mode you pinch and zoom with your fingers to the size you want… then when in “draw mode” you draw. In draw mode you can always zoom in for the detail work but you won’t change the size of the image 👍
@@JonathanCampDesigner Thank you for the quick reply. I do woodcarvings and it would be great to get accurate details from photos to draw on the wood blank. That said.. The stand is no longer available.. at least in the US.. Do you have another recommendation on Amazon.. It 's all new to me
Any chance you could do tutorials on how to use the colour pallette and greyscale options? Not enough tutorials for beginners for the great app. A sort of draw along paint along video please? Cheers
@@JonathanCampDesigner I think, i know what you are talking about. But i was hoping for someone to actually do a follow along tutorial. If you know what i mean?
@@hansgruber6358 Yes I do, it can be frustrating to start. It's a combination of using the App and your drawing patience. Quite often the freeflowing method of painting is better, especially starting as you can let the paint flow without worrying about detail. I will create some more tutorials over the next few weeks...
@@JonathanCampDesigner Thanks John. I tried to have a go myself at using the colour palette. However, being a beginner and not understanding how to use it. My attempt ended up being just a blob of colours on a piece of paper. 🤣 so any help would be much appreciated. 👍
Yes please do a tutorial on how to paint with this app. It’s a great app. But it very and difficult to under stand Jim’s tutorials.I’ve almost finished the bumblebee. ( cutting it out) had to take a break . Very tedious, using a scroll saw blade the size of a hair to cut it out. I’m using3/16 MDF and will glue it on a white artificial flower that I con cocked.
You really need to link to your app, there’s no direct confirmation what app on the App Store is yours, I’ve checked your website your about tab and several videos, you need to show the icon at least and stick a link in the descriptions
Where can I get a copy of that circle and grid sheet you use? I know there is an auto addition to the app that adjusts, but I am not technically proficient and I think your manual way may work better for me. I've never actually used the app because it all seems so confusing and complicated. Peter is a genius but your video has been most encouraging.
Sure, got to the top left camera menu, Select [MORE...], Then select "Print/Save Helper". You get the option to save the image or print it out. Brilliant 😉

Where did you find that test set up page? Thank you for this tutorial. Your instructions were very clear. I was able to find the mirror, but not the little folding stand.
Thank you so much for the tip. I paint, and these items are very useful and cost-effective, so much cheaper than a camera lucida...as most of my compositions are from photos, which I uploaded on my devices.
Still fiddling with my iPad and the CL. Appreciate your tutorials very much. The sequencing of accomplishing tasks can be frustrating. “Restore.” “Save.” Down arrow to save as well. You really have to be in the right mode to make a drawing. Using the camera adjustment helper sheet was an accomplishment for me. Still haven’t got it right, although a couple of drawings I’ve done have turned out all right. Questions: do you have to use the camera adjustment sheet for every new drawing, and, I know you can do a video of your own drawing but, can you do the equivalent of a screen shot for anything you are creating, when working with the many choices for color, posterization, etc., and, I have a dying iPad, which I keep on a charger always, to use it I have to put it on the stand, on a box(to raise the charger plug)which seems to confuse the camera adjustment helper, so should the CAH still work in that configuration? I think I saw you take a picture of a color wheel for an individual drawing. It may have been from one of “Pete’s” tutorials. Thanks again, Larry, Houston, TX. “Long live the King!”
Could you please indicate the correct app? I don't know which one to buy, there are a number of them on the apple store but perhaps the graphics have changed and I can't figure out which one you use. Thank you!
The Osmo deflector isn't functioning as expected despite your instructions on its use. Despite multiple attempts, it remains unresponsive. Consider using alternatives such as the Osmo pad or base stand for better results.
Which Camera Lucida app at the IPad app store do you use in this demonstration? There are a couple of different apps available there and i don't want to get the wrong one. Thank you.
Very helpful tips! thank you. I have played with the front camera a bit, and i wonder how you deal with tracing onto paper that's in landscape mode, and the camera view seems not wide enough? thx.
@@JonathanCampDesigner Last question Jonathan... I work landscape 12" x 16" and the iPad obviously needs to stand vertically. How do I get the image to fill the page? Would I need to move the iPad further away or elevate it to get a horizontal image up to that size?
@@mattpot you need to either break the inage in 2 (see my video on using cl and painting A3) or you can use 2 cameras with cl (again there are lots of videos on this)
Hi, I’ve never tried it on the iPhone. I guess it would depend on the camera. There are so many iPhones with different cameras. It would be difficult to get the Osmo device in the right position. The best option is to use an iPad or if you don’t have one buy a cheap secondhand one.
