    Is it weird that I understand the fast talking at the end?
    If I were to open a VR arcade I would definitely go for Pi-max 5K over the vive pro 2 but it would be the huge amount of computing power and technical skills for each staff member which keeps my opening a VR Arcade an out of reach dream at the moment.

    The distortion is a significant issue for me, and the main reason I don't pick a Pimax up. I loaned one for a week and was amazed by how much distortion impacted the experience. It's there all the time on the sides, and even on the top and bottom. The distortion profiles are improving all the time, so I've heard, so hopefully they can rectify this issue in time. This approach of 'brute-forcing' FOV in this manner will always result in distortion however, and for some people it's almost unuseable because of it. Some people hate screen-door, others hate god-rays, but for me distortion is the biggest issue and is a constant reminder I'm wearing the headset rather than being immersed in a virtual world.

    • @TrevorJones1
      @TrevorJones1 3 роки тому +2

      That's really odd. I hear there are some variations in some headsets, sounds like the one you tried was defective, maybe slightly mis-aligned lenses.
      Either that, or you didn't try swapping the thick or thin foam as it can make a huge difference. I dont know why Pimax doesn't add a eye relief adjuster considering 2mm of depth can make such a world if difference.

    • @ReckonerVR
      @ReckonerVR 3 роки тому

      @@TrevorJones1 I'm not sure it's that odd as I've heard from numerous people that the distortion issues are inherrent with the device. However, I am also aware from various other, trusted, people that they experience very little distortion too. I did try the thicker foam (in a way, I sort of put spacers in there to test it) and I can confirm it reduced distortion but didn't completely remove it.
      The other factor here is that, by introducing the spacer, you are effectively reducing the FOV anyway and mostly just removing the distorted sections.
      I'm happy people get the FOV increase with no distortion, but I definitely believe that using these ultra-canted ,and wide displays, there will always be a limited amount of distortion correction that is ever going to be possible.

    Tip from me to others with this VR headset. For users with SMAS, and don't have the money for the upgraded audio strap.
    • If you keep your Velcro that came with the headset which bound the headset's cables... (my headset had this, which I'm sure other people should have too)
    • ...then check if your headphones can fit over your VR strap, while wearing the VR obviously. Just make sure that it doesn't apply too much stress, which depends on the Headphones.

    The resolution is not "slightly" higher. Look at vertical resolution too. The Vive Pro 2 has 2448 vertical resolution while the pimax has 1440. Not to mention bigger fov means closer to the screen which is an increased sde.

    IPD is wrong it's not actually what they say on the website many people know that they lie about the IPD range on the headsets.
    5k on the pimax 5k super is misleading slightly. 5k on the pimax headsets mean 2560 horizontal and 1440p vertical which is essentially a valve index with more horizontal fov which means in perceived visual resolution it's lower than the quest2. And 5k on the vive pro 2 is 2448 vertical and 2448 horizontal with a wider fov than most current headsets. The PPI/PPD on the vive pro 2 is actually pimax 8k x level.
    Most of the issues with pimax headsets have been fixed over the many years they have been plagued with them

    • @Dreamwriter4242
      @Dreamwriter4242 3 роки тому +1

      With the bandwidth and latency issues, wireless isn't ready yet, so it *can't* be the starting point; it's more like the ultimate end-point. The Vive Pro 2, for example, has the best wireless VR you can get right now. It requires a dedicated PC card and a high-bandwidth broadcaster that has to have direct line-of-sight with the receiver at all times, so needs to be mounted high on a wall...but even with that the resolution is basically halved when using wireless, with the refresh maxed out at 90hz instead of the 120hz the headset supports.
      For me, I like wireless, I like using my Quest as a stand-alone headset for exercising. But I wouldn't give up the Pimax wide FOV over wireless ever, it's just WAY more immersive.

    • @Cimlite
      @Cimlite 3 роки тому +1

      @@Dreamwriter4242 That sounds like problems that need solving, but it doesn't negate what I said. For me, being wireless is a _requirement_ for immersion. VR with a cable is simply no fun. I am constantly aware of the cable and it ruins the whole thing. At least that's been my experience.

    PSA: If you have to wear glasses in VR, a Pimax Headset is *not* for you. The 5k Super especially, as it only comes with the 11mm thin foam that has barely any space for glasses, but even the 15mm foam (included with the 8k X and available as a seperate purchase for other Pimax headsets too) put's your face too close for glasses.
    I'd also not recommend extending the distance either as you'd quickly introduce excessive distortions and in my experience, at the point where my glasses did fit, I was left with an FOV barely larger then the Index with godrays shining at me from the edge of each lens.
    One thing I should also mention is that Pimax headsets tend to be rather dim compared to other headsets. In my experience, both units I had were comparable to something like maybe 60% or 70% of brightness on my Index. You get used to it, but going back to my Index at 130% or my Vive Pro felt like an immediate improvement. And yes, I did have the brightness set to 100% in PiTool.

    Actually the resolution isn't actually 5k or 8k, it's got more pixels horizontal wise with 2560 x 1440 but less vertical wise. Resolution wise this is not anywhere close to any latest headset. It's got great FOV and Framerate though.
    Man talk about confusing people. 😕

      Yeah it's why I put 5k in quotations. I even mentioned it quite a few times in the 8k video. Its more just clever marketing than anything else. But they aren't the first and they certainly won't be the last ;)

    The problem is not the price of a headset for me really, it's more the price of getting base stations, controller and a PC that can fully supply the high refresh rate and graphics. I got a 1060 (notebook) It works good but I'm not going to get a lot out of it.

    So many lies about resolution here. Just check vertical resolution of Vive you're talking about and Pimax. Learn what PPD means.

    • @TheMysticle
      @TheMysticle 3 роки тому

      I did say the resolution of the Vive Pro 2 was higher

    • @SneakyJoesENG
      @SneakyJoesENG 3 роки тому

      @@TheMysticle But then you multiple times say that 5k has better resolution than Quest 2 (it is not so) and it's a direct competitor for vice pro 2 (it's not) which is a narrow fov headset.
      You also said that small FOV of Pimax is similar to quest 2, while in fact it's wider. Way wider.

    • @TheMysticle
      @TheMysticle 3 роки тому

      I said it feel like something "more like an Oculus Quest 2." 14:48 I give exact FOV and say it's comparable to Vive Pro 2 not Quest 2. Whether it competes with the Vive Pro 2? I think it does, whether you think it does is your opinion. It trades blows in terms of specs and is in the same price point. That's a competitor.
      As for resolution, Quest 2 has a resolution of 3840x1832 while Pimax 5K Super has a resolution of 5120x1440. Multiply them together and you get 7,034,880 Pixels for the Quest 2 and 7,372,800 Pixels for the Pimax, That's a higher resolution. I cannot find the exact PPD of the Pimax 5K super anywhere on their website so that might bring it down however I certainly enjoy it more then my Quest 2, except for the wire.

    • @SneakyJoesENG
      @SneakyJoesENG 3 роки тому

      @@TheMysticle In terms of resolution and image quality it lags behind both Vive Pro2 and Quest 2. Games compatibility is also worse than on both mentioned headsets. The only thing it is better is FOV. But you won't be able to play shooters competitively with that resolution. Racing and flight sims? Absolutely yes (when they work). Casual games? Sure, but you'll notice pixels. Shooters? Nope. You'll get wrecked by any player that has better PPD headset from a distance. And advantage of higher FOV is not that high when you don't have time to rotate to shoot a camper.
      So praising pimax as much isn't justified. It's a cool secondary headset for games you want high FOV in or high refresh rate with lower FOV (and lower than competitors resolution). It's a bad headset if you play shooters on high level.
      Thanks for replying btw.

      Index controllers are only $279, 2 base stations only costs $298. Some people like me already own both index controllers and base stations. SteamVR base stations and controllers have been out for over half a decade so plenty of people in the VR community probably own controllers and base stations.
