And then there is me who started who adult fantasy journey with Assassin’s Apprentice- I loved the UK covers and it being a long series broken up in trilogies and a quartet I figured if I didn’t like it, I could easily bow out. Little did I know that Hobb would become my favorite author.

I have definitely been in a reading slump for the past month or so. I read a book that I thought was going to be amazing, and it just put a stop to reading (for me) because of how disappointed I was in it. Sometimes videos just come at the right time. I really hope that I can get out of my reading slump with one of these books! Thanks ☺

I had never really read much fantasy or sci-fi when I jumped into The Broken Earth Trilogy blind and it was GLORIOUS. Nothing else of any other genre that I've read since has hit me the way this series did. Perfection.

With Robin Hobb; you can’t read all 16 books at once. It’s not a commitment to just try Assassins Apprentice, and then if you like that, you can then just read the first Trilogy, after that decide if you want to continue into the entire Realm of The Elderlings. I NEVER thought I’d read Hobb but I just took a gamble and I was intrigued and now I’ve almost finished the Farseer Trilogy 😂❤

Great list! After I found your channel a few years ago I got into fantasy, and have started reading and loving many of these - so thank you!! A bit of a nitpick, but after hearing Hobb's various titles named dozens of times in your videos I can't help feeling compelled to point out that most of her titles don't begin with "The" (it's Assassin's Apprentice, Assassin's Fate, etc.) The only exceptions I see among all 16 are The Mad Ship and The Golden Fool. I just suppose (not being an author myself) that Robin Hobb put a lot of thought into the titles of her books being as they are.

I am here to tell the people to read Assassins Apprentice! I’m not a fantasy reader but gave it a go and LOVED IT! I say that you are not committing to a 16 book series straight away, just read the first one, loved that? Read the first trilogy. Loved that? Okay how about this next trilogy. IMO the fantastical elements of the story aren’t complicated it’s just intimidating in its size. 💖

I love this list, I am a massive fan of both Brandon Sanderson and Joe Abercrombie. I love Brandon Sandersons worlds and his characters are so full of emotions that they are relatable and Joe Abercrombie's characters are freaken awesome, so dark and funny. My son who has never been a reader loves both of them. I loved the city of brass trilogy so much and have been recommending it every since I finished it. I have been trying to get Tress of the emerald isle for a while but it is always on back order, so I look forward to that. Really want to read John Gwynne as he has been recommended a lot. Other series in the lighter categories are Mary E Pearsons trilogy and duology series, both interesting and action packed with Romance as well. Your recommendations are fantastic... thanks for sharing

I had to DNF The Fifth Season because the on-page child abuse was too much for me. I felt physically ill and had a nightmare after the hand squeezing scene, and that was the end for me. I don't hear that TW mentioned often, so this is a heads up. Very early on, there is very graphic child abuse, and I believe there are numerous other triggers throughout. Be safe reading ❤

Granted, you might put it in the advanced category... although... most folk I know who love it read it as a preadolescent, so unless schools are totally failing students these days, anyone could read it if they were interested, right?

I'd say that it's place is somewhere in the lower end of moderate. The writing itself is simple ("easy") and pretty straight forward. The plot isn't difficult to follow either. Some may call it dark because of the violence, but it's actually quite funny to read how these characters interact with each other.
The Fifth Season by comparison is absolutely Advanced Fantasy with it's superior story complexity and writing style.
