Since you seem to be in contact with the team, would you be able to do a Q&A video with them regarding uncertainties about the system and future expansion plans? We know the names of some planned expansions, but I think a roadmap of sorts would really help people to get hyped, especially when they discover what ships their anticipated faction might get. I for one want my Borg Probe and Sphere.
These ships look too big given the size of the systems. The models look great, but their scale compared to what the play area is supposed to represent seems off.
Appears to play more like I’d expect Star Trek to play. Lots of moving pieces but they look like they are spaced well between the phases of round. Did you feel like it was easy to learn? How was the rule book ?
First game will be a bit slow to learn - I"m hoping to have a series of videos that will easily showcase the basics and gradually introduce advanced concepts over time.
@ and multiple ships …. You still only refresh 3 officers over whole fleet per round in the ready phase. I had assumed it would be 3 per ship but I quite like that as it will make you consider your priority actions more. Yet another source of pressure on resource management in the game. Nice 😂
This video had me so giddy today! BTW, should not the Constellation have taken a second damage card because there were breakthrough successes equal to its resilience? 1:13:45
Yes. Granted some of that complexity will only be used in certain missions. For example you won't always make away teams, or launch probes, or separate the Saucer Section. Heck some games won't even have combat! But learning all of it will take a bit longer.
Not as much as you might think honestly. There was so much to talk about with regard to this Core Set and the rules - that the focus was on the CURRENT game. But naturally there was some talk about future stuff - however I don't think anything was really spoiled that hasn't already been spoiled with regards to future expansion names and "reveals".
That turning tool looks fiddly and over-engineered as hell. What (if any) difference would there be if you just rotated the ship base around the turn tool, then moved normally?
I like the movement and the idea of the different systems, but having played a lot of Star Trek Attack Wing OPs years ago where it shortens the playing area (Gorn OP, etc), I'm curious if most of the battles will take place in these tiny pockets of the map. Add in these gorgeous (very large) battle cruisers, which are not as maneuverable to begin with, and you may run into a lot of Austin Powers infinite 3-point turns scenarios. That is my main take away so far.
For being a core set, there doesn't seem to be enough variety on day one. Not sure why they chose the Dominion as opposed to other factions, but hey, there's always the chance they will drop some expansions right after launch. Really hope we see some Intrepid class ships. (Also, we are all just waiting for the Borg.) Just saying.
A core set is never a variety pack. These types of games make their money selling ships as expansion packs. This pack comes with 5 unique ships and one duplicate. Compare this to Star Wars Armada, the core set of that came with only 3 ships.
Also the dominion was chosen because the dominion war is one of the largest and most popular war arcs in star trek. When people think of war in star trek they tend to think either of the dominion war or klingons
@@lorestorage I'd be inclined to argue that the Borg conflict is - far - more popular/iconic than the Dominion, extending through two of the series and the premise of the second most popular movie. It had less actual war content depicted, and I'm not saying the Dominion is a bad choice (especially since they had a larger variety of ships shown), but I don't think they compare in the eyes of the general fanbase.
Still perplexed by how they’ve implemented movement. I count 7 distinct steps to move a ship, at each point there’s potential for dexterity error leading to imprecise movement of a ship. The Flight Path system has 3 mechanical steps to move. The ships look fantastic, the ship boards is a really cool evolution of what is basically the Clix system, the way missions work is very Star Trek and plays into supporting a narrative campaign style of play, but getting this to the table for me runs into a movement mechanic that will frustrate me to no end.
I get that it looks clunky at first. After playing several games now I"ve realized that its gets easier and easier. There's also alot of straight movement, and the "Come About" move which lets you rotate to any direction.
This looked super interesting right up to the point where they showed the full table's worth of cards and tokens laid out all over the place. Such a turn off in a game...
Understandable - you won't normally have all of those cards out during gameplay - but I had just done an unboxing and hadn't put all the un-used components away yet.
Seeing the dominion cruiser looming on the table makes me so excited to see a D'deridex someday.
Same!
House rule: Chief O'Brien must always be deployed when building a fleet list.
So good to finally see some core set gameplay! And even better to see that it surpasses all my expectations! Thanks for the great video.
This looks like so much fun and how a Star Trek tabletop game should play and feel.
it always dissapointed me they based attack wing on xwing instead of armada
I'm honestly surprised you didn't break out the "He is intelligent, but not experienced. His pattern indicates two-dimensional thinking." line.
With every video i'm getting more interested in this game. Thank you!
Glad to hear it!

Possibly!
These ships look too big given the size of the systems. The models look great, but their scale compared to what the play area is supposed to represent seems off.
Part of that is perspective fr the camera. They have also mentioned that a larger play area can be an option for some scenarios.
Very interesting game play. I'm hoping for an Akira class.
I hope this game gets interest, and I hope the game with the missions give endless possibilities.
I want this to succeed for Star Trek
I'd really enjoy playing borg for this. :)

As soon as there is an Akira-Class ship, I am in.
Great video of the action - noticed I’ve been playing warp slightly off 😂 Game is great and so thematic 👍
Thank you 👍

How does everyone not begin every action with “make it so.”
Very informative!

Hiya! Yeah probably so! When there's a camera on you, it adds a little extra pressure and sometimes a rule slips through the cracks!
Hey Crabbok woud you consider it more complicated/complex than armada?
Yes. Granted some of that complexity will only be used in certain missions. For example you won't always make away teams, or launch probes, or separate the Saucer Section. Heck some games won't even have combat! But learning all of it will take a bit longer.

That movement tool is such an improvement but still seems a little clunky. It all looks so good though.
Informative.
Did you manage to glean any juicy details regarding future expansions or their release windows from the developers during your time together?

@@Crabbok Thanks for the swift reply. Hopefully we'll hear more information soon!

This game is already selling out.

A ship can pivot in place as an Impulse maneuver.

Take my money omg Star Trek armada

I love Star Trek, but not loving what I’m seeing. I’m a huge x-wing player and would just love to see more ship movement.
An ISD could destroy them all!
Lies... Deception!
You are welcome to test that assumption at your convenience.
I cant tell if this game is fun or not....
