Well qualified ആയിട്ടും കേരളത്തിൽ ജോലി ഇല്ലാത്തതു കൊണ്ടു MTech phD കഴിഞ്ഞു കാനഡക്ക് പോകണമോ എന്ന് 2010 ൽ ചിന്ദിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.അന്ന് migrate ചെയ്യാൻ പറ്റിയ country അതാണെന്ന് എല്ലാവരും പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. By luckily ഞങ്ങൾ ഹൈദരാബാദ് പോന്നു. ഇവിടെ settle ആയി. ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് 2 പേർക്കും ഉയർന്ന salary യിൽ ജോലി കിട്ടി(ഒരു പാർട്ടിയുടെ recommendatiin ഇല്ലാതെ കൈക്കൂലി കൊടുക്കാതെ 😂). വീട് വാങ്ങി. ഇനി കേരളത്തിൽ തിരിച്ചു പോകാൻ plan ഇല്ല. Now I feel it was a very good decision.Thank God!!😊

I agree with you, came here 10 years ago for MBA. It took many years to pay off my student loans of almost $100k. I make north of $120k today from my primary job, I still have to do a second job to pay off mortgage, and manage other life expenses and to save some money at the end of the day because my wife is still preparing for her pharmacy licensing and hence unable to work. Many years ago one salary was suffient for a good life, today you need husband and wife to work for a good life in Canada.

1. Live close to subway /bus route and a school, so that you don't need to drive a car daily, to go to work or to drop kids to school. Use rental cars for weekend and holiday trips. Book in advance and use loyalty points to get cheaper rates. Rates are too low in winter so keeping rental car for the all the winter also is not a costly affair. Keeping your own car drains your money everyday due to emi, insurance, service, washing, tyre change, avoidable trips etc.
2. Buy a house only after thorough calculations and if you are 100% convinced that own-house will add value to your life and doesn't become a financial burden. Rental or own home, sleeping peacefully in the night, is most important. Don't succumb to peer pressure or broker pressure. Consider all aspects such as buying cost, maintenance cost, snow-removal cost. selling cost, property taxes, capital gain taxes, interest burden etc. and compare it with renting. If renting, try to stay in the same house for longer periods like more than 3 years, so that the rental increase will be minimal. For 5-6 years of stay in a city, may be renting is cost effective than buying. Depends on the city. Use rent vs buy calculators available online.
3. Buy groceries online. Keep the list of necessary items and only order those every week. If you go to shop, they will make you buy unneccessary items in the names of sales, seasonal items etc.
4. Avoid buying too many house-hold items. Think about all those things that you already bought and not using, before making any buying decision. Buy expensive stuff only your inner soul tells you to buy it at least 3 times.

I got long-term bronchitis, and when I tried to get an appointment with a specialist, there was no appointment till the end of February. So, I consulted my doctor in Thrissur, and one of my friends brought the medicines back home. Same with K-12 education, as my kids came here after 10th, quickly scored 97+%, and got into the University of Toronto and UBC. K12 education is one of worst in the world, even comparable to Attapadi, with most 11 & 12 classes not having a chemistry or physics lab. Even high schools in Regina, the capital of Saskatchewan, don't have proper labs; imagine, in Kerala, you go to any remote area and walk into a school, and most have enough teachers and well-equipped labs. The colleges are useless here; if you are planning to come here, get admission into the top five universities like U of T, UBC, McGill, University of Waterloo, University of Alberta and finally, Macmaster University. Most others are rubbish.
