People forget this version of Messi. He was perpetual motion. Never walked. Was first to win the ball back. And every time he got the ball he dribbled by several players. He was amazing. As he got older he was still amazing on the ball but did less off the ball and became an incredible goal machine. The version of him now is still the GOAT but he has to pick and choose his moments due to his age. Spends a lot of time walking to maintain energy. Mbappe was arguably a better teenage player. He had 39 goals in 2018/2019, won a league title with Monaco (and reach SF) and won a WC. However, last season (4 years later), he still had 39 goals. Messi went from 17 to 38 to 47 to 53 to 73, and he had that while playing more as a playmaker than as a striker/finisher.

I was fortunate to watch him play every week 2009 - 2012, I'd watch the games with my grandfather & he'd tell me this young Messi is the greatest he has ever seen.. I was 13 yrs old then & did not know Messi but the moment I first watched him play I was obsessed with his style.. in awe of his genius. He's a majestic player. I'm a Liverpool fan but there were times I'd choose to watch Barca over my team Liverpool because I simply had to watch Leo play.. I'm from England but I hope Argentina lift the WC.. because to me, Messi is bigger than football. The world owes him the WC for all of the magic he has given us over the years.. he truly deserves it.
