Pastor Iren, Damina: Heretic for Saying This?

  • There's a recent discussion on Christian X (formerly Twitter) concerning baptism. While some believe baptism involves immersion, many do not identify baptism with water. Some say baptism means salvation, while others don't believe that baptism saves. Some view baptism as a symbol and even consider it idolatry.
This conversation started from an X Space, a live audio conversation on the microblogging platform, on the topic of the non-necessity of the sacraments (baptism and communion). Many men of God from Nigeria contributed to the discussion, including Apostle Emmanuel Iren. There's been a lot of debate and backlash. Let us listen to key highlights from the X Space.
The host of that discussion cited that misleading teaching on baptism started from Dr. Abel Damina. Let us watch Pastor Abel Damina's reaction to such a point of view in a previous sermon and also a message on baptism by Apostle Iren that will fully explain what he meant in his contribution to that interaction.

Water baptism does not save us rather it is when you believe that you are saved, I don't know why people are getting confused about it, water baptism is the outward expression of what has already happened inwardly, but although there's nothing wrong if you baptize with water and there's nothing wrong if you don't baptize with water either bcos the day you accept Christ that day you have been baptized with Christ

Turning the word of God upside down and misinterpreting verses is easy. Let them study the Sacred scripture prayerfully. On John Baptizing during Jesus' public ministry and Christ Jesus himself baptizing with water as did his disciples in later Acts of the Apostles, he should study John 3 whole and entire

    • @michaelokandeji9616
      @michaelokandeji9616 2 місяці тому +1

He should extend that study to chapter 4 of the same book of John. Some argued that Jesus didn't baptise but his disciples did and I asked them...was it possible for the disciples to have taken the task upon themselves without being authorised? If Jesus didn't intend for water baptism to be a part of the Apostles teachings and acts, would he not have told them? If the men who lived, slept and walked with Jesus continued the ordinances, who are the mere mortals that suddenly woke up to claim that baptism is unnecessary? Even Apostle Paul was baptised by immersion and he himself baptised but a few...yet Nigerian preachers and believers have the effontery to disparage the instructions of Jesus.

Jesus speaking in John 3:3 "KJV:Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" and John 3:5 "KJV:Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."
Being born of water is water baptism and being born of the spirit is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Jesus says without the 2 a person cannot enter the kingdom of God.
In vs 3, being born again makes one SEE the kingdom of God whereas in vs 5, water baptism and Holy Ghost baptism helps one ENTER the kingdom of God.
Prayerfully study the Bible for yourself, God is not an author of confusion.

    False doctrines, everywhere
pls read the story of the Ethiopian Eunuch pointing to the relevance of batism.
    Act 8:26-40
Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place. 27 And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship 28 and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah. 29 And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” 30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. 32 Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this:
“Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter
and like a lamb before its shearer is silent,
so he opens not his mouth.
33 In his humiliation justice was denied him.
    Who can describe his generation?
For his life is taken away from the earth.”
34 And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. 36 And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?”[b] 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.

For me whether u Baptise with water or not scripture is clear on Salvation and receipt of the spirit it's by faith. If u like enter water and don't believe it's just a shower but u can be saved without baptism and this is evident atleast with Cornelius. When John the Baptist disciples met Paul and he asked what baptism they were baptized into and when they received the spirit. He didn't rebaptise them as the 1st was done by John.

    Q. Was Apostle Paul baptized?
    A. Yes
    Q. Did Apostle Paul baptize anyone
    A. Yes
Here is 1 Corinthians 1:14-16: "I am thankful that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name. Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas. Besides these, I do not know that I baptized anyone else." (NKJV)
    Acts 9:13-16 states:
13 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”
14 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord-Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here-has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
15 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength.
16 Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus.
People should be careful how they inteprete scriptures.

1 Peter 3:21, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also-not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Water Baptism doesn't give you eternal life or save you from hell. Jesus' death and resurrection does. Water baptism saves your conscience. It reminds you of whom you've believed in- our Lord Jesus who has saved you through His death and resurrection.
I think water baptism is one armour of God that can function as a "helmet of salvation" that guards your conscience.
It doesn't mean, if you don't do water baptism you won't be saved. Just like tongue speaking. Those who don't believe in tongue speaking but believe that Jesus Christ died and resurrected for them and believe that their sins are forgiven will still have eternal life. So is water baptism. Tongue speaking and water baptism are important armour of the Christian faith. Every believer needs them. But if you don't believe in them and you've believed in Christ finished work, you are saved.
So please, water baptism is not a doctrine that should be abolished. If you have the opportunity just do it in faith.
    Thank you.

      Nope.
We need to study the bible like a student who wants to practically follow the apostles.
You need to know that before the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ the price for salvation has not been paid. We become saved when Jesus paid the price with his life.
Now how did the disciples of Jesus Christ preach?
The book of acts is the go to for answers. They preach believe, repent, be baptised in water and receive the holy spirit. If it wasn't important they wouldn't have baptized 3000 people in acts 2. So baptism is a core part of our new life in Christ.
Just take it as a natural birth:
When a child is born these hings are usually done:
First is the cutting of the umbilical cord - repentance
      Bathing of the baby- baptism
The baby cries out after inhaling air- reception of the holy spirit with evidence of tongues or languages.
