- No Gi Buzzsaw - What A Guard Passing Expert See's While Rolling
Daisy Fresh BJJ Black Belt Andrew Wiltse uses his vast reservoir of accumulated Brazilian Jiujitsu knowledge to analyze and break down his own No Gi passing footage. Currently ranked #6 in the world, Andrew uses his experience to point out mistakes he made, highlight successes, and share some of the insights he's looking for during the roll.
This Footage in particular was taken from a class we taught in Rockford, IL at Northern Illinois Combat Club. The round type is Sweep-Pass-Submit. The goal is for the person in the middle to whether the storm of fresh bodies while still trying to go on the offense. It is a fantastic drill for both the passer and the guard player.
Want to learn exactly how Andrew approaches No Gi Passing? How the hell does he hit a knee slice this easily and this frequently? No Gi Buzzsaw is available at BJJFanatics.com
bjjfanatics.co...
From start to finish, our passing route should already be planned out. How should we approach a seated opponent? What passes should we force vs what should we take? What should I look for when those options aren't available? How do I counter their most likely reactions? Approach BJJ like a closed system and learn the methodical ways we can force our opponent to make mistakes so we can capitalize on them.

Dude, nothing annoying about your voice; it’s very engaging.
Dude, your roll commentaries are great. The passing and guard playing videos you’ve done are killer. I’ve trained for years but you really make me see old stuff with a depth I’ve never been able to find in my recreational training. Great stuff and shot out to Bird for cranking out so much stuff. Admittedly I was never a Daisy Fresh fanatic (though it’s a great channel) but I’m really digging your guys stuff. It’s deeper on technique and feels more grounded to me.
What I like about this is that you are able to demonstrate how even with some limitations, you are still able to apply all of the essential elements of your passing system to achieve good results. If anything, it’s more validation that what you practice is technically very sound and not based primarily off of attributes.
Wiltse Bros., thank you. Learning so much from all of your work and commentaries. Andrew’s half guard video about setting the leg connection using the back of the knee and a making a triangle instead of just a weak superficial hook has changed my game. Great stuff, one of the best talents, duos and minds in jiujitsu. Plus a light and clear delivery.
Just craaaaaazy amount of info here, can’t believe this is for free.
Long live the buzz 👑
Thanks for coming out bro! Cool to get your post commentary here to pick up on little things we might be missing. You're the best 🤘🤘🤘
Thank you for coming out, this was so helpful. Let’s see some Bird!
The speed of the leg pummel at @16:45 is frantic!
Really love the content you are putting out! Greatly appreciate it.
Great stuff. I dont really that guy coming up to a wrestling stance on one knee when he's supposed to be playing guard is really in the spirit of the drill.
Get better soon Andrew! And agree with others, let’s see some Bird action 👍🏽
Oh wow! Thank goodness for being able to watch this at 0 25 speed. These passes are soooo slick!
Hi, Wiltses! Thanks for the diverse and quality content!
Could you make video about exercises or drills that helps in float passing? Andrew is exceptional in getting the step-backs high and far. He also highlighted the importance of knee retraction in the video. Thanks in advance and hope Andrew gets well soon.
Cheers!
Amazing content and for free.
Enjoying these videos!
You are really the best!!! Thank you!!
Ï am learning a lot from your series, videos from you or bird will be of great value anyway. Take good care of your back, keep the good work :-)
Love all your videos
Recovery speedy~
Holy crap this is an awesome video thanks to the Wiltses
Andrew, you're prob doing yoga stuff already but if not, start doing it to heal your back. I had a massive L5 prolapse 20 years ago, it started as a tiny pain in my low back and as I'd been practicing power yoga for 10 years I thought it was just another twinge. It slowly got worse to the point I couldn't sit down, then one night I woke up with a weird feeling in my left leg, a kind of numbness. When I got out of bed the next day I fell over as my foot was paralysed. It freaked me. The surgeon said he would not do an op as bizzarly I had no pain. He said it might have been the 10 years of yoga that created an incredible support structure around my lower back. I walked with a stick for almost 2 years, doing yoga therapy exercises, herbs, healing, chanting, physio, praying... the whole lot. I did gentle yoga and slowly I healed, it took 2 years. After 4 years I was back to 90% my old self, I'll never be back 100% with deep backbends but I'm good with that. Now I'm 57 and love my practice, I've also started BJJ and love it and have no fear about my back. Thank you and Bird for your epic inspiration and I wish you the absolute best with your back. It's scary as Fxxk. This might sound a bit new age but one of my students suggested that I sing a healing mantra to my back, so in my private space I did just that, I was ready to try anything, would have eaten a sandwich with cow shit on it if I thought it would heal me!
Sorry to hear about the injury bud, hope it heals smoothly and you're back to full force soon!
This doesn't even look like jiujitsu at this point tbh. This man is just walking past their guards like they aren't even trying to stop him. Phenomenal.
Super great content!!! Is there ever a time where you decide to sit on your back vs sit forward/any advantage to being defensive like that? Your comment on how you would pass your own guard if that occurred was super interesting.
Awesome stuff
Hope you heal up soon!
buzzsaw passing is cheat codes for white belts. you have released a demon upon my gym and it is me. all I see is underhooks everywhere now. still need to fix my mechanics a bit, going a little wide on my slice, but god damn. I was destroying guards today in seconds.
These are fucking great. Keep doing them!
the like and sub reminder helps me remember that I like it haha. glad u do it!
love the breakdowns i learn a lot from these, can you do gi sparring footage too? thanks
Hey Andrew awesome content are they’re any videos you have with you passing people who give you a little more resistance?. I assume in competition your not able to pass at will and there is more of a battle between your passing and your opponents guard.
Maybe some rounds with couch would be interesting?.
Also would you ever go for some rounds at the b team I think everyone would love to see that.
Awesome video. Are you recording the rolling with a phone though? You guys should invest in a camera and a mount for it.
Give Bird some love for the next one
What happened to Andrew and his brother? No new videos in almost 1 year. Are they even competing anymore?
Let’s see Bird. Thank you!
Love this! Can anyone explain the headquarters position to me and why the underhook is so strong for knee slices? I've watched the instructionals, but I still don't understand the importance of underhooks in these positions.
Lol@ "oh shit" 😂
What brand/ type of back brace are you wearing?
P.s thank you for another great video.
****Disclaimer I am a 33 year old white belt****
at 12:45 you're telling me a bigger guy cant grab that leg and sweep you? Your under hook allows you to base all that? Or what other mechanic is factoring in?
edit: never mind, you answered it at 16:51
Andrew - great vids - what software do you use to record yourself talking over the videos? Thanks 👍
We're using OBS
@@AndrewWiltse thanks! Never heard of it, will check it out. What’s the setup that allows you to record yourself overlaid at same time as the main video? 👍
Hi Andrew, I'm just wondering how you felt coming back from a knee injury? I recently tore my meniscus at training and had to have surgery
Training with A hesitated lower disc is a nightmare
we want Bird!
Andrew you should do a video getting stem cells for your back in panama
can someone explain how he got injured
Hey Andrew.
I was wondering do you ever worry about the Mir Lock when you are going for the Underhook.
No
@@AndrewWiltse haha, good to know
I had to slow down the video to .75 to keep up.
7:50
Who's the creepy guy watching from behind the bar? Lol 😦
Let's see the bird man
Did you hurt your back just rolling
Let's see some bird 🐦
