Another tip would be to put your translocator near the health pack instead of on it to hide it and make it less predictable

Another tip is to ping your hacked targets as it provides a directional and auditory que for their position that remains for most of the hack duration.

@@nightraider5100 unless your playing with coms and are at least low masters, most players won't pay attention to a single highlighted enemy. The ping draws attention to them
Thanks for the advice. For a more casual player like me that don't often use a mic this will be very useful.
Even bigger tip: ping low health targets. You csn see them through the wall so the ping stays. This way every part of your team can be a danger to them when they get low health, not only you.
Another disturbingly common one that has annoyed me for YEARS is "EMP the entire enemy team while no one is there" and the dead team 10 miles away at spawn is like w h y

This is less bad in OW2 only if you manage to get a solo kill off the EMP. That way you can force a spawnkill situation on the person you killed and can build momentum for your team by staggering the enemy.
Really tough to get a kill even w EMP if the enemy team is all grouped tho.
Guilty 😅the problem is I don’t realize that everyone is dead, I just use my emp when I see the most people clustered. 😅I then realize when I die that no one was there. I feel bad but at the same time I get annoyed, like if I’m able to survive and I don’t receive heals than everyone should at least be able to survive a bit longer. (I try not to use heals from characters I try to take pads. So that they can focus on the tanks) the healers get one less person to focus on hence making it easier to heal the rest.

One of my tips is if you’re going into a 1v1, pay attention to the other enemy’s locations. If you win the 1v1 and need to translocate to heal, and you see 3 other enemies engaging in the fight with your team, odds are that 4th person is either coming back from spawn or is on your translocator
A more advanced tip: don't get tunnel vision on any of the health packs. Use your short cooldown tp to flank and to shoot from different angles. She can be a menace if you play her this way, as you no longer have the 5 second time in which Sombrero is out of the fight because she went back to a health pack.
👾More Sombra Tips👾: Don’t always put your translocater on a health pack. A lot of maps have high ground next to, or above health packs this is so you aren’t completely out of the fight you can hack over shields on high ground. You can still poke for your team while dropping down to the health pack as well. The number one problem new Sombra players have is they’re not active enough in team fights, i still mess up from time to time and teleport too far from the fight, doing this i’m getting no value for my team. Always ask yourself why am i throwing down my translocater right here is it high ground, is there a health pack near by, does my support have an angle on me here, or am i just impulsively throwing my translocater. Always have a plan for where you’ll go when you translocate. When you spawn on say push or control throw your translocater out from spawn immediately to get ahead of your team, so you can start setting up ahead of time or to get ahead of a possible enemy Sombra. Against an enemy Sombra the fastest one wins the hack on the health packs and the positioning. It’s important to get set up as fast as possible for Sombra so your not hacking a health pack a little to far from your team at the beginning of a fight, removing that important bit of dps pressure doing this can cost you the fight, As small as it may be think “i’ll just be gone for a second” in that time a sojourn could beam a tank to build rail gun and head shot your mercy. Keep these things in mind as Sombra. So translocter placement why am i placing it here, high ground is sombra’s best friend for hacking over shields or getting angles in important hack targets, getting out of spawn asap on push and control to set up, stay in the fight as much as you can, and obviously as sombra do your absolute best to make sure that the enemy team is having zero fun 😆

I remember once I was playing on Hollywood and the enemy team figured out my location so their Orisa Genji and Cassidy decided to camp my translocator and I used the emp to kill them all while using the mega health pack to constantly heal myself, I won that fight and got POTG.
The #3 tip on all these videos is "don't hold your ultimate waiting for the perfect moment" lol

That list tip really applies to every hero in the game TBH. You do NOT have to instantly nuke the enemy team to win. Even solo ulting an important target can give your team the tempo to clean up the rest of the fight. Not to say that you should always be trying to solo ult instead of hitting a team, but you should definitely keep an eye out for those opportunities when they arise, since they WILL come up in your games every now and then.
I feel like this is probably true for most ultimates. Don’t wait for the entire team, use it on a few people to ensure the team fight is won
Best tip in my opinion. There’s a specific range for every hero Sombra fights that benefits her. It’s not all the same. Learn those ranges. For instance, Sym at the end of her beam and right up in Torbs face because he gets melted quickly by her.

I found this one person on the enemy team that would just hack us and didn't actually do anything else and it was so weird watching it. I was so tempted to help them out and message them it wasn't actually doing anything but I didn't want to come across as rude

Nah I find it useful to be a complete jackass. Either except the tip and win or don't fucking use sombra. simple as that. I'd rather lose knowing I helped the sombra on the enemy team improve (cus keep in mind they could be your future teammate) than lose to a useless toxic sombra. The fucking overwatch community is riddle with toxic useless sombras and it's infuriating cus they be sitting at 20 death 13 elims and be blaming their teammates and losing 1's with supports like myself. Like bro the whole team saying to report 1 of their own it's better to just target that 1 dude and make the game soo bad they uninstall or rage quit then report to get them banned.

That final tip is just a great gaming tip in general. I learned it while watching pro LoL players play.
Seeing aoe ults get used on a 1v1 always frustrated me, but in the end of the day your ult is an expendable resource, so use it accordingly.

Another tip, use emp when the enemy team engages, for example they usually engage with an ult so if you emp that ult it’s very high value and could potentially turn the fight but you can’t always do this.
Personally I like throwing my translocater in bushes or behind piles of things that can’t be destroyed. If there’s an opening big enough if it will go right inside the cracks and no one can find it. If you’re putting it in a bush make sure the bush is big enough to fully cover it so it’s harder to find.
While putting your teleport near the team fight is a good idea, you might want to change up your location once in a while. If enemy team keeps seeing your teleport direction leading towards a dead end over and over we'll likely find where you run off to and come take your teleport down and likely you as well if we are quick enough.
First tip is actually depending on the situation. If you're taking their attention, most of the time they will use their abilities to try and look for you and even leave the fight entirely just to look for you. That's what's happening when I play Sombra atleast.
The first tip is very important. I've lost many matches because of Sombras hacking the enemies with without following up or when its not possible for us to do something making it useless. We essentially have no 2nd DPS. This still happens but less often

My teammates always get mad at me for solo emping someone and dont realise that securing a kill like that can begin and end a teamfight in seconds.
Its better to secure a kill, than to hold it waiting for 3-4 of them to group up.
Yes and no sometimes waiting for a 3-4 emp is better IF your team is coordinated. But yeah if you have a bad team going for a double kill or solo isn’t always bad
@RauKnowsOW Well that's the issue, I play in gold-plat and tend to hover around high gold, and as Is common in the metal ranks, there is little to no communication.
I try my best to make my intentions known to my team but soetimes they just do not want to listen :/

brings me memories of the 1v1s i would do with my buddy. he would get tired of me widow camping him and go sombra. he always go so pissed when id dodge at the last moment, drop the mine, and hip fire him to death. you just get a feel for when a sombras about to pounce.

important tip from Fitsy, a GM 1 sombra
prioritize placing your translocator on highground rather than directly on mega, preferably with the mega in between or below the translocator and the team fight
this way your translocator is more hidden, and you still get the healing from the health pack, while giving you a safe space to translocate to

You can hack enemies and run away, but the trick is that you don't consistently do that. Targets stay hacked for a bit so after they shrug it off you follow up sometimes. Do this enough and they start looking for you, which is when I spam voice lines. It works on some teams, and is extremely funny. If it doesn't work on a team switch it up to being more aggressive.

1. Playing sombra
hitting 2-3 targets with emp is actually perfect, the enemies become easier to kill when the enemy team is a bit split like 3-2
Another thing with the translocator if you are near enough to the spawn area (for instance the very end of I think it’s called einsenwald it’s the German map with the battering ram from Rein’s Honor and Glory thing) put your locater in there because if you die you’ll be there anyway but you’ll have to wait some extra seconds to spawn in and start moving also EMP charges fast enough for you to waste it if there are 1-2 problem people (or just people in general) on point just burn it better than never using it
lol...i just wait when everybody is having tunnel vision on fighting then quietly capture the point, usually 1 or 2 people stays behind to protect the point then I'll go hacking shield tanks and go kamikaze inbetween. kinda fun messing the ones protecting, whether to go fight or protect
Try to use intuition for EMP as well. If you see a reaper wraithing towards your team, run towards him and solo emp. It's way more worth it than using it on 2-3 people and can be a game saving play.
The best tip I can think of is, if you are really confident in your skills, spawn camp an enemy on king of the hill or push maps. If you can do this to a single healer it turns the 5v5 match up into 4v4, except the other team won't have a healer to fall back on during team fights. Anyone can put out damage to make up for your absence in those fights, but no one can make up for a Bap or Kiriko, etc.

As a sombra one trick who reached gm without ever swapping and never once got on voice chat I can confirm these are indeed the basis to playing her properly. I think animation cancels and maybe hiding your tp are the only things missing.
EMP also destroys a lot of stuff, including barriers and many ults. It's definitely worth it to EMP to cancel an ult since you're trading ults with someone, but only yours actually gets value.
EMP can cancel all ults which are in their startup animation (if they have one), but it can only cancel some ults which have already been used. For instance, Symm's wall, Kiriko's Kitsune, Bastion's window, Mei's Blizzard, and Lifeweaver's tree all just get removed by EMP. Ball's mines also get deactivated for a few seconds.
Otherwise, hacks can cancel all ults which get cancelled by stuns, including during windup time.

Avoid placing your translocator directly on health packs because they’ll find it and camp it till you teleport back and kill you. Instead place it in the general area of a health pack, this way they’ll have less of a chance to find it
When Sombra EMPS and it stops you from tucking and rolling: sad McCree noises
Annoyance is helpful when the enemy team is focusing on you in place of the payload because they got so pissed at your random hacks
number 1: you picked sombra
number 2: picking sombra
number 3: playing the character formerly known as sombra
With number 3 that's one of the times where I'll agree with "don't hold onto your ult"
Some people have said "Don't hold onto your ult because you'll get another one" and that's not always necessarily true.
There are times where your team gets steamrolled despite your best efforts and you lose BAD.
AND not all ultimates are equal regardless. Some like Bastion's and Sombra's fill up quickly and some like Sigma's or Widow's don't in comparison if your team isn't dominating.
Saying "you'll get another" may be true once but that could be it. In the entire match you might get one, two, three ultimates or none at all.
In the case of achievement hunters like myself it's the only way to get some like Sombra's for hacking the entire team with one EMP, Doomfist's "Cratered" (hitting the entire enemy team with one Meteor Strike, and many others that need to be used at the perfect time to nail the achievement....
....plus doing it and getting the achievement (or even if you just missed out on it) is SO satisfying especially when your team follows it up with a wipe of any stragglers
there was a Sombra once that just kept hacking me, at one point I just stopped giving attention to it since she didn't follow up with anything
Translocator on highground NEAR healthpacks wherever possible. Highground offers tactical advantage, while being close to the healthpack offers the regular benefits. If the enemy team knows there is a Sombra, they may also look for the translocator near healthpacks.
1. Distracting backline is fine. If you manage to pull 1 Support away from a teamfight that means you're also putting a pressure on their tank. Just be smart and actually be annoying constantly.
2. Good advice on translocator but not precise enough. What truly matters about your translocator placement is how fast you can get back into a fight after tp-ing, not if you'll immediately get healed after.
3. Good advice on EMP! There's no real reason to hold off EMP unless your team is super coordinated. Just use it if you're sure you can get a kill with it especially if there's no counter play available.

Bad habit for Sombra : Not playing Symmetra
I want to see them take on the odd minds of Wildcat, Nogla and 407.
That’s the thing, in OW1, when you lacked an enemy you were pulled out of her translucent phase. You had to fight and normally resort to your teleport bomb you played in your teams spawner
Sombras value is information. Ping hacked and low targets through walls. Locate and ping the squishy healer and engage them alone or with a dive effort. Track ults. Random hacking can confirm the suspicion of an enemy ult and let your team know or target them.
Remembering where you’re translocator is, on the map and during each engagement, will help tremendously. Don’t wanna keep it near a health pack and find a junkrat waiting for you.

Playing Sombre
You forgot putting your translocation in spawn…..that really grinds my gears
Another tip for playing Sombra: Don't play her, pick Tracer instead
Honestly people in overwatch tunnel vision very quickly so you can get 2 people distracted very easily. Plus hacking the right support out of nowhere can be a game changer
I was playing casual once and had basically the whole team searching for me instead of playing the objective

I once played with a sombra who was so good at disruptions and taking away attention. We were playing dive and he would always try to get the team to look at him so When we dived we were never really interupted
subtip for the second one, i’d only place the translocator on the health pack if it’s behind the enemy team cause they don’t usually check those. i usually place mine in an equally close position to my support and the health pack, so i have either option to go to. optimally you’d want to be more near your support, since there’s less risk of your translocator being found and you’re away for less of the fight
For the love of God yes stop leaving that goddamn transporter in the spawn
What I struggle most with playing sombra is if the enemy team is keeping together. Feels like there isn't much I can do then because they'll just kill me as soon as I decloak. Just run around hacking health packs basically. Her strength is killing off stragglers imo.

Mistake number one for Sombra players, you are playing Sombra.
As someone who just started playing Sombra I'm glad I already follow these. I do tend to do the hack for fun, but I do it to characters like you mentioned so it at least has some utility to it.

If I wanna hack the respawning zen, bring him to 1 hp, and then tp away right be fore he dies I have every right to. Mental damage is far more inpactful than actual damage
I feel attacked
As a sombra main: DO NOT place your tp directly above health packs. Do know where they are, but place your tp in a place where you can get to them easily OR run away. A good exemple is junkertown, second point and the mega health pack you find right after you leave the third area as a defender. There the mega is placed by the stairs where you should place the tp, so you can either leave the area, get to the highground or heal yourself
hacking in the backline actually still does provide value via location reveal. also considering how long hack lasts, going for a hack to distract them and then seeing if their team turns around immediately is a good indicator for if the team is on voice chat so you can make riskier plays on backline supports or damage heroes you're confident you can 1v1. you can also choose to follow up with spraying long after you hack, so that by the time they turn back around or focus on the teamfight, you have a little extra time to fire on a hacked target instead of the classic hack, un-invis, fire
I always just at random target somebody in open q until they get pissed and leave. Then I choose another target, rinse and repeat
My friend just started playing a few weeks ago and when he discovered Sombra I told him to not even use the invisibility when you first start, I basically hovered over him and made him stay in the fight to make him realize that she's good for more than just running around invis hacking, he's been playing her for like a week now and he's pretty good
Playing sombra is how I memorized most of the health pack locations
I say most as i took a very long break from dps and overwatch in general so I don’t remember a majority of the locations in general
If the person you’re spam hacking for fun is wrecking ball, it’s not a bad thing
A tip from me (a Sombra main)
If your healer isn't wanting to heal and you want a confirmed 'get out of trouble free card' place your translocator at your spawn and rush the back lines, always keep track of your health and if it gets to dangerous then dip out of the fight and regroup with your team. I recommend you do this if you are still new to the maps and don't know where health kits are and your support isn't helping you.
And yes for all the Sombras who don't shoot, you are as useless as the person your hacking, try and get a kill whenever you can and as an extra tip try and get 2 hacks before an engagement so depending on the situation you can try and get 2 quick kills or weaken the tank and get a quick kill on either a dps or support.
Also as a Sombra your main focus are the supports as no matter who they are you should be almost always able to out damage and outplay them as you have invis and a dmg buff BUT that does NOT mean you should rush head first into a support not expecting to be focused, you need to always expect the worst before engaging with Sombra

The translocator tip is completely wrong you are supposed to put translocator on height so you remain in the fight longer and build ult and when you need to, go to a heath pack otherwise you get caught in a very boring cycle that ends up with a lose most of the time
