    Love the close up of graham's fretboard on the solos, he is the hendrix of our generation.

    Graham is brilliant but in a different way to Hendrix or Page I reckon. Less flashy, less lengthy guitar solos based around the blues, etc. Just really clever use of chords and voicings, creating rhythms that butt up against the drums and bass really interestingly, etc. To my ears he's coming more from the Johnny Marr school of guitar playing i.e. to serve the song first but the playing is unique enough to catch your attention.

    Lovely! Truly great :) Gra seems to be looking at the audience a bit more now...and even gives a smile or two. Fantastic that they're back!! (Now come to the States!)

    he's so great. I find it really impressive how he can sing whilst playing those weird chords up and down the neck.

    Thanks so much for this.
    I'm over here in Canada so unless they decide to tempt America, once again, this is probably the closest I'll ever come to seeing his technique up close.
    Excellent video!

    As a matter of fact, Graham isn't playing hard chords. He uses different positions but on the same chord each. I think he never takes his eyes off the fretboart because thats he's usual position. Almost every live performance of Blur he's looking to the guitar, or to the floor. However, I love the way he plays and creates rythm

    In the studio version there's a load of distortion (think it's a RAT), and now and then some modulation effects on the first solo (fast tremolo first, then a really fast vibrato). On the last solos I think he also uses the vibrato).
    Here I think he just uses some delay or reverb on the last few solos.

    @borkug Are you saying this song is easy to play and sing? Sure if you're playing Damon's part but Graham never takes his eyes off his fretboard of which he's moving right across throughout the whole of the song. I'd say 95 per cent of his concentration is on his guitar.

    @stratmad Great post, man. You've got a great ear. From: another good ear.

  • @benjamin308
    @benjamin308 14 років тому +1

    @borkug Yes, the song is dead easy to play and sing if you're playing the basic chords of the song as Damon is doing.

    It doesn't sound like Dinosaur Jr. Dinosaur Jr. used a lot of temolo, but Coxon's effects tool box is absolutely botttomless. I've been listening to this song for years and I still have no idea how he's getting the sound the does.

    @borkug funny you should say that as that was the exact example I was thinking when you mentioned this. Not a watertight example as it's not really that hard to play and sing. Kurt (who was a genius in his own way) was not the most technically proficient musician. it still requires more information to accompany the idea that coffee & TV is 'easy to play and sing'. No matter which way you cut it, singing whilst playing what graham is playing is hard for any guitarist.

    @borkug I've posted a video if you go to my channel. I can't believe how big my nose looks.
    I agree it's hard to sing over complicated rhythms. Doesn't make what graham's doing any less impressive to me. On closer examination there are some difficult rhythm parts to what he's doing. A couple of syncopated riffs made up of octives during the chorus. He executes those notes perfectly I must say.

    Damn, doesn't how good you hit the notes you need to learn how to master the pedal as well for that solo.
